1 Now it came to pass on a Sabbath, that he was going through the grainfields; and his disciples plucked and ate the ears, rubbing them in their hands.2 But certain of the Pharisees said, Why do you{+} do that which is not lawful on the Sabbath day?3 And Jesus answering them said, Have you{+} not read even this, what David did, when he was hungry, he, and those who were with him;4 how he entered into the house of God, and took and ate the showbread, and gave to those who were with him; which it is not lawful to eat except for the priests alone?5 And he said to them, The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.6 And it came to pass on another Sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man there, and his right hand was withered.7 And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the Sabbath; that they might find how to accuse him.8 But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man who had his hand withered, Rise up, and stand in the middle [of the synagogue]. And he arose and stood.9 And Jesus said to them, I ask you{+}, Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good, or to do harm? To save a life, or to destroy it?10 And he looked around on them all, and said to him, Stretch forth your hand. And he did [so]: and his hand was restored.11 But they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.12 And it came to pass in these days, that he went out into the mountain to pray; and he continued all night in prayer to God.13 And when it was day, he called his disciples; and he chose from them twelve, whom also he named apostles:14 Simon, whom he also named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip and Bartholomew,15 and Matthew and Thomas, and James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot,16 and Judas [the son] of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor;17 and he came down with them, and stood on a level place, and a great multitude of his disciples, and a great number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon,18 who came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were healed.19 And all the multitude sought to touch him; for power came forth from him, and healed [them] all.20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed [are] you{+} poor: for yours{+} is the kingdom of God.21 Blessed [are] you{+} who hunger now: for you{+} will be filled. Blessed [are] you{+} who weep now: for you{+} will laugh.22 Blessed are you{+}, when men will hate you{+}, and when they will separate you{+} [from their company], and reproach you{+}, and cast out your{+} name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake.23 Rejoice in that day, and leap [for joy]: for look, your{+} reward is great in heaven; for in the same manner their fathers did to the prophets.24 But woe to you{+} who are rich! For you{+} have received your{+} consolation.25 Woe to you{+}, you{+} who are full now! For you{+} will hunger. Woe [to you{+}], you{+} who laugh now! For you{+} will mourn and weep.26 Woe [to you{+}], when all men will speak well of you{+}! For in the same manner their fathers did to the false prophets.27 But I say to you{+} who hear, Love your{+} enemies, do good to those who hate you{+},28 bless those who curse you{+}, pray for those who despitefully use you{+}.29 To him who strikes you on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and from him who takes away your cloak don't withhold your coat also.30 Give to everyone who asks you; and of him who takes away your goods don't ask [for them] back.31 And as you{+} would that men should do to you{+}, do{+} to them likewise.32 And if you{+} love those who love you{+}, what thanks do you{+} have? For even sinners love those who love them.33 For even if you{+} do good to those who do good to you{+}, what thanks do you{+} have? Even sinners do the same.34 And if you{+} lend to them of whom you{+} hope to receive, what thanks is it to you{+}? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive again as much.35 But love your{+} enemies, and do [them] good, and lend, never despairing; and your{+} reward will be great, and you{+} will be sons of the Most High: for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.36 Be{+} merciful, even as your{+} Father is merciful.37 And do not judge, and you{+} will not be judged: and do not condemn, and you{+} will not be condemned: release, and you{+} will be released:38 give, and it will be given to you{+}; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will give into your{+} bosom. For with what measure you{+} mete it will be measured to you{+} again.39 And he spoke also a parable to them, Can the blind guide the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?40 The disciple is not above his teacher: but everyone when he is fully trained will be as his teacher.41 And why do you look at the mote that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye?42 How can you say to your brother, Brother, let me cast out the mote that is in your eye, when you yourself don't look at the beam that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to cast out the mote that is in your brother's eye.43 For there is no good tree producing corrupt fruit; nor again a corrupt tree producing good fruit.44 For each tree is known by its own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush do they gather grapes.45 The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and the evil [man] out of the evil [treasure] brings forth that which is evil: for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.46 And why call{+} me, Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say?47 Everyone who comes to me, and hears my words, and does them, I will show you{+} to whom he is like:48 he is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid a foundation on the rock: and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it: because it had been well built.49 But he who hears [my words], and does not [do them], is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell in; and the ruin of that house was great.

1 Certo sábado, enquanto Jesus passava pelas lavouras de cereal, seus discípulos começaram a colher e a debulhar espigas com as mãos, comendo os grãos.2 Alguns fariseus perguntaram: "Por que vocês estão fazendo o que não é permitido no sábado? "3 Jesus lhes respondeu: "Vocês nunca leram o que fez Davi, quando ele e seus companheiros estavam com fome?4 Ele entrou na casa de Deus e, tomando os pães da Presença, comeu o que apenas aos sacerdotes era permitido comer, e os deu também aos seus companheiros".5 E então lhes disse: "O Filho do homem é Senhor do sábado".6 Noutro sábado, ele entrou na sinagoga e começou a ensinar; estava ali um homem cuja mão direita era atrofiada.7 Os fariseus e os mestres da lei estavam procurando um motivo para acusar Jesus; por isso o observavam atentamente, para ver se ele iria curá-lo no sábado.8 Mas Jesus sabia o que eles estavam pensando e disse ao homem da mão atrofiada: "Levante-se e venha para o meio". Ele se levantou e foi.9 Jesus lhes disse: "Eu lhes pergunto: o que é permitido fazer no sábado: o bem ou o mal, salvar a vida ou destruí-la? "10 Então, olhou para todos os que estavam à sua volta e disse ao homem: "Estenda a mão". Ele a estendeu, e ela foi restaurada.11 Mas eles ficaram furiosos e começaram a discutir entre si o que poderiam fazer contra Jesus.12 Num daqueles dias, Jesus saiu para o monte a fim de orar, e passou a noite orando a Deus.13 Ao amanhecer, chamou seus discípulos e escolheu doze deles, a quem também designou como apóstolos:14 Simão, a quem deu o nome de Pedro; seu irmão André; Tiago; João; Filipe; Bartolomeu;15 Mateus; Tomé; Tiago, filho de Alfeu; Simão, chamado zelote;16 Judas, filho de Tiago; e Judas Iscariotes, que veio a ser o traidor.17 Jesus desceu com eles e parou num lugar plano. Estava ali muitos dos seus discípulos e imensa multidão procedente de toda a Judéia, de Jerusalém e do litoral de Tiro e de Sidom;18 que vieram para ouvi-lo e serem curadas de suas doenças. Os que eram perturbados por espíritos imundos ficaram curados,19 e todos procuravam tocar nele, porque dele saía poder que curava a todos.20 Olhando para os seus discípulos, ele disse: "Bem-aventurados vocês os pobres, pois a vocês pertence o Reino de Deus.21 Bem-aventurados vocês, que agora têm fome, pois serão satisfeitos. Bem-aventurados vocês, que agora choram, pois haverão de rir.22 Bem-aventurados serão vocês, quando os odiarem, expulsarem e insultarem, e eliminarem o nome de vocês, como sendo mau, por causa do Filho do homem.23 "Regozijem-se nesse dia e saltem de alegria, porque grande é a recompensa de vocês no céu. Pois assim os antepassados deles trataram os profetas.24 "Mas ai de vocês, os ricos, pois já receberam sua consolação.25 Ai de vocês, que agora têm fartura, porque passarão fome. Ai de vocês, que agora riem, pois haverão de se lamentar e chorar.26 Ai de vocês, quando todos falarem bem de vocês, pois assim os antepassados deles trataram os falsos profetas".27 "Mas eu digo a vocês que estão me ouvindo: Amem os seus inimigos, façam o bem aos que os odeiam,28 abençoem os que os amaldiçoam, orem por aqueles que os maltratam.29 Se alguém lhe bater numa face, ofereça-lhe também a outra. Se alguém lhe tirar a capa, não o impeça de tirar-lhe a túnica.30 Dê a todo o que lhe pedir, e se alguém tirar o que pertence a você, não lhe exija que o devolva.31 Como vocês querem que os outros lhes façam, façam também vocês a eles.32 "Que mérito vocês terão, se amarem aos que os amam? Até os ‘pecadores’ amam aos que os amam.33 E que mérito terão, se fizerem o bem àqueles que são bons para com vocês? Até os ‘pecadores’ agem assim.34 E que mérito terão, se emprestarem a pessoas de quem esperam devolução? Até os ‘pecadores’ emprestam a ‘pecadores’, esperando receber devolução integral.35 Amem, porém, os seus inimigos, façam-lhes o bem e emprestem a eles, sem esperar receber nada de volta. Então, a recompensa que terão será grande e vocês serão filhos do Altíssimo, porque ele é bondoso para com os ingratos e maus.36 Sejam misericordiosos, assim como o Pai de vocês é misericordioso".37 "Não julguem, e vocês não serão julgados. Não condenem, e não serão condenados. Perdoem, e serão perdoados.38 Dêem, e lhes será dado: uma boa medida, calcada, sacudida e transbordante será dada a vocês. Pois a medida que usarem, também será usada para medir vocês".39 Jesus fez também a seguinte comparação: "Pode um cego guiar outro cego? Não cairão os dois no buraco?40 O discípulo não está acima do seu mestre, mas todo aquele que for bem preparado será como o seu mestre.41 "Por que você repara no cisco que está no olho do seu irmão e não se dá conta da viga que está em seu próprio olho?42 Como você pode dizer ao seu irmão: ‘Irmão, deixe-me tirar o cisco do seu olho’, se você mesmo não consegue ver a viga que está em seu próprio olho? Hipócrita, tire primeiro a viga do seu olho, e então você verá claramente para tirar o cisco do olho do seu irmão".43 "Nenhuma árvore boa dá fruto ruim, nenhuma árvore ruim dá fruto bom.44 Toda árvore é reconhecida por seus frutos. Ninguém colhe figos de espinheiros, nem uvas de ervas daninhas.45 O homem bom tira coisas boas do bom tesouro que está em seu coração, e o homem mau tira coisas más do mal que está em seu coração, porque a sua boca fala do que está cheio o coração".46 "Por que vocês me chamam ‘Senhor, Senhor’ e não fazem o que eu digo?47 Eu lhes mostrarei a que se compara aquele que vem a mim, ouve as minhas palavras e as pratica.48 É como um homem que, ao construir uma casa, cavou fundo e colocou os alicerces na rocha. Quando veio a inundação, a torrente deu contra aquela casa, mas não a conseguiu abalar, porque estava bem construída.49 Mas aquele que ouve as minhas palavras e não as pratica, é como um homem que construiu uma casa sobre o chão, sem alicerces. No momento em que a torrente deu contra aquela casa, ela caiu, e a sua destruição foi completa".
