1 Exorto-vos, pois, - prisioneiro que sou pela causa do Senhor -, que leveis uma vida digna da vocação à qual fostes chamados,2 com toda a humildade e amabilidade, com grandeza de alma, suportando-vos mutuamente com caridade.3 Sede solícitos em conservar a unidade do Espírito no vínculo da paz.4 Sede um só corpo e um só espírito, assim como fostes chamados pela vossa vocação a uma só esperança.5 Há um só Senhor, uma só fé, um só batismo.6 Há um só Deus e Pai de todos, que atua acima de todos, por todos e em todos.7 Mas a cada um de nós foi dada a graça, segundo a medida do dom de Cristo,8 pelo que diz: Quando subiu ao alto, levou muitos cativos, cumulou de dons os homens {Sl 67,19}.9 Ora, que quer dizer ele subiu, senão que antes havia descido a esta terra?10 Aquele que desceu é também o que subiu acima de todos os céus, para encher todas as coisas.11 A uns ele constituiu apóstolos; a outros, profetas; a outros, evangelistas, pastores, doutores,12 para o aperfeiçoamento dos cristãos, para o desempenho da tarefa que visa à construção do corpo de Cristo,13 até que todos tenhamos chegado à unidade da fé e do conhecimento do Filho de Deus, até atingirmos o estado de homem feito, a estatura da maturidade de Cristo.14 Para que não continuemos crianças ao sabor das ondas, agitados por qualquer sopro de doutrina, ao capricho da malignidade dos homens e de seus artifícios enganadores.15 Mas, pela prática sincera da caridade, cresçamos em todos os sentidos, naquele que é a cabeça, Cristo.16 É por ele que todo o corpo - coordenado e unido por conexões que estão ao seu dispor, trabalhando cada um conforme a atividade que lhe é própria - efetua esse crescimento, visando a sua plena edificação na caridade.17 Portanto, eis o que digo e conjuro no Senhor: não persistais em viver como os pagãos, que andam à mercê de suas idéias frívolas.18 Têm o entendimento obscurecido. Sua ignorância e o endurecimento de seu coração mantêm-nos afastados da vida de Deus.19 Indolentes, entregaram-se à dissolução, à prática apaixonada de toda espécie de impureza.20 Vós, porém, não foi para isto que vos tornastes discípulos de Cristo,21 se é que o ouvistes e dele aprendestes, como convém à verdade em Jesus.22 Renunciai à vida passada, despojai-vos do homem velho, corrompido pelas concupiscências enganadoras.23 Renovai sem cessar o sentimento da vossa alma,24 e revesti-vos do homem novo, criado à imagem de Deus, em verdadeira justiça e santidade.25 Por isso, renunciai à mentira. Fale cada um a seu próximo a verdade, pois somos membros uns dos outros.26 Mesmo em cólera, não pequeis. Não se ponha o sol sobre o vosso ressentimento.27 Não deis lugar ao demônio.28 Quem era ladrão não torne a roubar, antes trabalhe seriamente por realizar o bem com as suas próprias mãos, para ter com que socorrer os necessitados.29 Nenhuma palavra má saia da vossa boca, mas só a que for útil para a edificação, sempre que for possível, e benfazeja aos que ouvem.30 Não contristeis o Espírito Santo de Deus, com o qual estais selados para o dia da Redenção.31 Toda amargura, ira, indignação, gritaria e calúnia sejam desterradas do meio de vós, bem como toda malícia.32 Antes, sede uns com os outros bondosos e compassivos. Perdoai-vos uns aos outros, como também Deus vos perdoou, em Cristo.

1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation with which ye are called,2 with all humility and meekness, with tolerance, forbearing one another in love,3 being diligent to guard the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.4 [There is] one body and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling,5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,6 one God and Father of all, who [is] above all and through all, and in you all.7 But unto each one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of the Christ.8 Therefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men.9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all the heavens, that he might fulfill all things.)11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers,12 for the perfecting of the saints in the work of the ministry, unto [the] edifying of the body of the Christ13 until we all come forth in [the] unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the coming of age of the Christ:14 That we no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men [and] cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive,15 but following the truth in charity, let us grow up into him in all things, who is the head, the Christ:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and [well] tied together among itself by the nourishment that every [connecting] bond supplies, by the operation of each member according to measure they have received, making increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in charity.17 This I say, therefore, and require in the Lord that from now on ye not walk as the other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their [own] senses,18 having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart,19 who, after losing all sense [of feeling] have given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness.20 But ye have not so learned of the Christ,21 if so be that ye have heard him and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus,22 that ye put off [everything] concerning the old way of life, [that is], the old man who corrupts himself according to deceitful desires,23 and be renewed in the spirit of your understanding24 and that ye put on the new man, which is created in conformity to God in righteousness and in the holiness of the truth.25 Therefore, leaving the lie, speak every man truth with his neighbour, for we are members one of another.26 Be ye angry and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath,27 neither give place to the devil.28 Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labour, working with [his] hands that which is good, that he may have to give to him that is in need.29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for edification, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God with which ye are sealed for the day of redemption.31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and evil speaking be taken away from you, with all malice,32 and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God has forgiven you in Christ.:
