1 Quando os homens começaram a multiplicar-se sobre a terra, e lhes nasceram filhas,2 os filhos de Deus viram que as filhas dos homens eram belas, e escolheram esposas entre elas.3 O senhor então disse: "Meu espírito não permanecerá para sempre no homem, porque todo ele é carne, e a duração de sua vida será de cento e vinte anos."4 Naquele tempo viviam gigantes na terra, como também daí por diante, quando os filhos de Deus se uniam às filhas dos homens e elas geravam filhos. Estes são os heróis, tão afamados nos tempos antigos.5 O Senhor viu que a maldade dos homens era grande na terra, e que todos os pensamentos de seu coração estavam continuamente voltados para o mal.6 O Senhor arrependeu-se de ter criado o homem na terra, e teve o coração ferido de íntima dor.7 E disse: "Exterminarei da superfície da terra o homem que criei, e com ele os animais, os répteis e as aves dos céus, porque eu me arrependo de os haver criado."8 Noé, entretanto, encontrou graça aos olhos do Senhor.9 Esta é a história de Noé. Noé era um homem justo e perfeito no meio dos homens de sua geração. Ele andava com Deus.10 Noé teve três filhos: Sem, Cam e Jafet.11 A terra corrompia-se diante de Deus e enchia-se de violência.12 Deus olhou para a terra e viu que ela estava corrompida: toda a criatura seguia na terra o caminho da corrupção.13 Então Deus disse a Noé: "Eis chegado o fim de toda a criatura diante de mim, pois eles encheram a terra de violência. Vou exterminá-los juntamente com a terra.14 Faze para ti uma arca de madeira resinosa: dividi-la-ás em compartimentos e a untarás de betume por dentro e por fora.15 E eis como a farás: seu comprimento será de trezentos côvados, sua largura de cinqüenta côvados, e sua altura de trinta.16 Farás no cimo da arca uma abertura com a dimensão dum côvado. Porás a porta da arca a um lado, e construirás três andares de compartimentos.17 Eis que vou fazer cair o dilúvio sobre a terra, uma inundação que exterminará todo ser que tenha sopro de vida debaixo do céu. Tudo que está sobre a terra morrerá.18 Mas farei aliança contigo: entrarás na arca com teus filhos, tua mulher e as mulheres de teus filhos.19 De tudo o que vive, de cada espécie de animais, farás entrar na arca dois, macho e fêmea, para que vivam contigo.20 De cada espécie de aves, e de cada espécie de quadrúpedes, e de cada espécie de animais que se arrastam sobre a terra, entrará um casal contigo, para que lhes possas conservar a vida.21 Tomarás também contigo de todas as coisas para comer, e armazená-las-ás para que te sirvam de alimento, a ti e aos animais."22 Noé obedeceu, e fez tudo o que o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado.

1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them,2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men [were] fair, and they took [for] themselves wives of all whom they chose.3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for certainly he [is] flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.4 There were giants in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore [sons] to them, the same [became] mighty men who [were] of old, men of renown.5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually.6 And the LORD repented of having made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast and the animals and the fowls of the air; for I repent of having made them.8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.9 These [are] the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man [and] perfect in his generations, [and] Noah walked with God.10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.11 The earth corrupted itself before God, and the earth filled itself with violence.12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth.13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.14 Make thee an ark of cedar trees; rooms shalt thou make in the ark and shalt reconcile it within and without covering it over with pitch.15 And this [is the fashion of] which thou shalt make it: The length of the ark [shall be] three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; [with] lower, second, and third [stories] shalt thou make it.17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, in which [is] the spirit of life, from under heaven; [and] every thing that [is] in the earth shall die.18 But with thee I will establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou and thy sons and thy wife and thy sons' wives with thee.19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every [sort] shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep [them] alive with thee; they shall be male and female.20 Of fowls after their kind and of beasts after their kind, of every animal of the earth after its kind, two of every [sort] shall come unto thee, to keep [them] alive.21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather [it] to thee; and it shall be for food for thee and for them.22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.:
