1 Abrão tinha noventa e nove anos. O Senhor apareceu-lhe e disse-lhe: "Eu sou o Deus Todo-poderoso. Anda em minha presença e sê íntegro;2 quero fazer aliança contigo e multiplicarei ao infinito a tua descendência."3 Abrão prostrou-se com o rosto por terra. Deus disse-lhe:4 "Este é o pacto que faço contigo: serás o pai de uma multidão de povos.5 De agora em diante não te chamarás mais Abrão, e sim Abraão, porque farei de ti o pai de uma multidão de povos.6 Tornar-te-ei extremamente fecundo, farei nascer de ti nações e terás reis por descendentes.7 Faço aliança contigo e com tua posteridade, uma aliança eterna, de geração em geração, para que eu seja o teu Deus e o Deus de tua posteridade.8 Darei a ti e a teus descendentes depois de ti a terra em que moras como peregrino, toda a terra de Canaã, em possessão perpétua, e serei o teu Deus."9 Deus disse ainda a Abraão: "Tu, porém, guardarás a minha aliança, tu e tua posteridade nas gerações futuras.10 Eis o pacto que faço entre mim e vós, e teus descendentes, e que tereis de guardar: Todo homem, entre vós, será circuncidado.11 Cortareis a carne de vosso prepúcio, e isso será o sinal da aliança entre mim e vós.12 Todo homem, no oitavo dia do seu nascimento, será circuncidado entre vós nas gerações futuras, tanto o que nascer em casa, como o que comprardes a preço de dinheiro de um estrangeiro qualquer, e que não for de tua raça.13 Circuncidar-se-á tanto o homem nascido na casa como aquele que for comprado a preço de dinheiro. Assim será marcado em vossa carne o sinal de minha aliança perpétua.14 O varão incircunciso, do qual não se tenha cortado a carne do prepúcio, será exterminado de seu povo por ter violado minha aliança."15 Disse Deus a Abraão: "Não chamarás mais tua mulher Sarai, e sim Sara.16 Eu a abençoarei, e dela te darei um filho. Eu a abençoarei, e ela será a mãe de nações e dela sairão reis."17 Abraão prostrou-se com o rosto por terra, e começou a rir, dizendo consigo mesmo: "Poderia nascer um filho a um homem de cem anos? Seria possível a Sara conceber ainda na idade de noventa anos?"18 E disse a Deus: "Oxalá que Ismael viva diante de vossa face!"19 Mas Deus respondeu-lhe: "Não, é Sara, tua mulher que dará à luz um filho, ao qual chamarás Isaac. Farei aliança com ele, uma aliança que será perpétua para sua posteridade depois dele.20 Eu te ouvirei também acerca de Ismael. Eu o abençoarei, torná-lo-ei fecundo e multiplicarei extraordinariamente sua descendência: ele será o pai de doze príncipes, e farei sair dele uma grande nação.21 Mas minha aliança eu a farei com Isaac, que Sara te dará à luz dentro de um ano, nesta mesma época."22 Tendo acabado de falar com ele, retirou-se Deus de Abraão.23 Abraão tomou então Ismael, seu filho, assim como todos os homens nascidos em sua casa e todos aqueles que tinha comprado a preço de dinheiro, tudo o que havia de varões em sua casa, e circuncidou-se no mesmo dia, como Deus lhe havia ordenado.24 Abraão tinha noventa e nove anos quando foi circuncidado.25 Ismael, seu filho, tinha treze anos quando o foi igualmente.26 Abraão e Ismael, seu filho, foram circuncidados no mesmo dia;27 e todos os homens de sua casa, nascidos em sua casa ou comprados a preço de dinheiro a estrangeiros, foram circuncidados ao mesmo tempo.

1 And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said unto him, I [am] the Almighty God; walk before me and be thou perfect.2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee and will multiply thee exceedingly.3 And Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying,4 Behold my covenant with thee: Thou shalt be a father of many Gentiles.5 Neither shall thy name any longer be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many Gentiles have I made thee.6 And I will multiply thee exceeding, and I will make Gentiles of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee.8 And I will give unto thee and to thy seed after thee, the land in which thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting inheritance; and I will be their God.9 And God said [again] unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou and thy seed after thee in their generations.10 This [shall be] my covenant, which ye shall keep between me and you and thy seed after thee: Every male among you shall be circumcised.11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be a token of the covenant between me and you.12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male in your generations, he that is born in the house or bought with money of any stranger, who [is] not of thy seed.13 He that is born in thy house and he that is bought with thy money must needs be circumcised; and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.14 And the uncircumcised male whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has annulled my covenant.15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah [shall] her name [be].16 And I will bless her and give thee a son also of her; yea, I will bless her, and she shall be [a mother] of Gentiles; kings of peoples shall be of her.17 Then Abraham fell upon his face and laughed and said in his heart, Shall [a child] be born unto him who is one hundred years old? and shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear?18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed, and thou shalt call his name Isaac ([laughter]); and I will confirm my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant [and] with his seed after him.20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I shall bless him and will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly; he shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.21 But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, who Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.22 And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all the [servants] born in his house and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in that same day as God had said unto him.24 And Abraham [was] ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.25 And Ishmael his son [was] thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.26 In that same day Abraham was circumcised and Ishmael his son.27 And all the men of his house, born in the house and bought with money from strangers, were circumcised with him.:
