1 Então Moisés e os israelitas entoaram em honra do Senhor o seguinte cântico: "Cantarei ao Senhor, porque ele manifestou sua glória. Precipitou no mar cavalos e cavaleiros.2 O Senhor é a minha força e o objeto do meu cântico; foi ele quem me salvou. Ele é o meu Deus - eu o celebrarei; o Deus de meu pai - eu o exaltarei.3 O Senhor é o herói dos combates, seu nome é Javé.4 Lançou no mar os carros do faraó e o seu exército; a elite de seus combatentes afogou-se no mar Vermelho;5 o abismo os cobriu; afundaram-se nas águas como pedra.6 A vossa {mão} direita, ó Senhor, manifestou sua força. Vossa direita aniquilou o inimigo.7 Por vossa soberana majestade derrotais vossos adversários; desencadeais vossa cólera, e ela os consome como palha.8 Ao sopro de vosso furor amontoaram-se as águas; levantaram-se as ondas como muralha, solidificaram-se as vagas no coração do mar.9 Dizia o inimigo: perseguirei, alcançarei, repartirei o despojo, satisfarei meu desejo de vingança, desembainharei a espada, minha mão os destruirá.10 Ao sopro de vosso hálito o mar os sepultou; submergiram como chumbo na vastidão das águas.11 Quem entre os deuses é semelhante a vós, Senhor? Quem é semelhante a vós, glorioso por vossa santidade, temível por vossos feitos dignos de louvor, e que operais prodígios?12 Apenas estendestes a mão, e a terra os tragou.13 Conduzistes com bondade esse povo, que libertastes; e com vosso poder o guiastes à vossa morada santa.14 Ao ouvir isso, estremeceram os povos. Um pavor imenso apoderou-se dos filisteus;15 os chefes de Edom ficaram aterrados; a angústia tomou conta dos valentes de Moab; tremeram de medo todos os habitantes de Canaã.16 Caíram sobre eles o terror e a angústia, o poder do vosso braço os petrificou, até que tivesse passado o vosso povo, Senhor até que tivesse passado o povo que adquiristes para vós.17 Conduzi-lo-eis e o plantareis na montanha que vos pertence, no lugar que preparastes para vossa habitação, Senhor, no santuário, Senhor, que vossas mãos fundaram.18 O Senhor é rei para sempre, sem fim!"19 Os cavalos do faraó, com efeito, entraram no mar com seus carros e seus cavaleiros, e o Senhor os envolveu nas águas, enquanto os israelitas passaram a pé enxuto o leito do mar.20 A profetisa Maria, irmã de Aarão, tomou seu tamborim na mão, e todas as mulheres seguiram-na dançando com tamborins.21 Maria as acompanhava entoando: "Cantai ao Senhor, porque fez brilhar a sua glória, precipitou no mar cavalos e cavaleiros!"22 Moisés fez partir os israelitas do mar Vermelho e os dirigiu para o deserto de Sur. Caminharam três dias no deserto, sem encontrar água.23 Chegaram a Mara, onde não puderam beber de sua água, porque era amarga, de onde o nome de Mara que deram a esse lugar.24 Então o povo murmurou contra Moisés: "Que havemos de beber?"25 Moisés clamou ao Senhor, e o Senhor indicou-lhe um madeiro que ele jogou na água. E esta tornou-se doce. Foi nesse lugar que o Senhor deu ao povo preceitos e leis, e ali o provou.26 Disse-lhe: "Se ouvires a voz do Senhor, teu Deus, e fizeres o que é reto aos seus olhos, se inclinares os ouvidos às suas ordens e observares todas as suas leis, não mandarei sobre ti nenhum dos males com que acabrunhei o Egito, porque eu sou o Senhor que te cura."27 E chegaram a Elim, onde havia doze fontes de água e setenta palmeiras; e ali acamparam junto das águas.

1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and thus did they say, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.2 My strength and song is the Lord, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will declare his praise, the God of my father, and I will exalt him.3 The Eternal is the Lord of war; the Eternal is his name.4 The chariots of Pharaoh and his host hath he hurled into the sea; and the chosen of his captains are sunk in the Red Sea.5 The depths have covered them; they went down to the bottom as a stone.6 Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power; thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.7 And in the greatness of thy excellency hast thou overthrown those that rose up against thee; thou didst send forth thy wrath, it consumed them as stubble.8 And with the breath of thy nostrils the waters were heaped up together, the floods stood upright as a wall; congealed were the depths in the heart of the sea.9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my desire shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sunk as lead in mighty waters.11 Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the mighty? who is like unto thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?12 Thou didst stretch out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.13 Thou leadest forth in thy kindness the people thou hast redeemed; thou guidest it in thy strength unto the habitation of thy holiness.14 Nations hear it and tremble: sorrow seizeth the inhabitants of Palestine.15 Then were troubled the dukes of Edom; the mighty men of Moab, trembling seizeth them; faint–hearted become all the inhabitants of Canaan. l16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thy arm they shall be still as a stone: till thy people pass over, O Lord, till this people pass over, which thou hast purchased.17 Thou wilt bring them, and plant them on the mountain of thy inheritance, the place, O Lord, which thou hast wrought for thy residence, the sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.18 The Lord will reign for ever and ever.19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought again upon them the waters of the sea; but the children of Israel went on dry ground through the midst of the sea.20 Then took Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.21 And Miriam began her song to them, Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.22 And Moses caused Israel to depart from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.23 And they came to Marah; but they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore they called its name Marah.24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?25 And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord showed him a tree, which he cast into the waters, and the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them.26 And he said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his eyes, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and wilt keep all his statutes: I will put none of those diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians; for I the Lord am thy physician.27 And they came to Elim, and there were twelve wells of water, and seventy palm–trees: and they encamped there by the water.
