Gálatas 2

1 Then after a period of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me. 2 I went up by revelation, and I laid before them the Good News which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately before those who were respected, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain. 3 But not even Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised. 4 This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage, 5 to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not for an hour, that the truth of the Good News might continue with you. 6 But from those who were reputed to be important—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God doesn’t show partiality to man—they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me, 7 but to the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the Good News for the uncircumcised, even as Peter with the Good News for the circumcised— 8 for he who worked through Peter in the apostleship with the circumcised also worked through me with the Gentiles— 9 and when they perceived the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, those who were reputed to be pillars, gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcision. 10 They only asked us to remember the poor—which very thing I was also zealous to do.

11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I resisted him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before some people came from James, he ate with the Gentiles. But when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they didn’t walk uprightly according to the truth of the Good News, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live as the Gentiles do, and not as the Jews do, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as the Jews do?

15 "We, being Jews by nature and not Gentile sinners, 16 yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law. 17 But if while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a servant of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a law-breaker. 19 For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me. 21 I don’t reject the grace of God. For if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nothing!"

Mötet med de ansedda i Jerusalem

1 *Apg 15:2. Efter fjorton år kom jag upp till Jerusalem igen, nu med Barnabas*2:1BarnabasPaulus mentor och medarbetare på den första missionsresan (Apg 9:27, 11:22f, 13:2f, 15:36f).. Även Titus*2:1TitusBetrodd medarbetare till Paulus, som hade fört honom till tro (Tit 1:4, se även 2 Kor 7:6f). hade jag med mig. 2 *Gal 4:11, Fil 2:16. Jag reste dit efter en uppenbarelse och lade fram – enskilt*2:2enskiltDetta enskilda möte med "de ansedda" (Jakob, Petrus och Johannes, vers 9) behöver inte vara samma tillfälle som det stora apostlamötet i Jerusalem då hela församlingen deltog (Apg 15:6, 12, 22). Paulus besökte Jerusalem även tidigare, se t ex Apg 11:30., för de ansedda – det evangelium som jag predikar bland hedningarna. Det var väl inte så att jag kämpade eller hade kämpat förgäves?

3 *Apg 16:3, Tit 1:4. Men inte ens min följeslagare Titus, som är grek, blev tvingad till omskärelse. 4 *Apg 15:5, Gal 5:1, 13. Det ville annars de falska bröder som hade nästlat sig in. De hade smugit sig in för att spionera på den frihet vi har i Kristus Jesus och göra oss till slavar. 5 Men vi gav inte efter för dem ens ett ögonblick eller underkastade oss. Vi ville att evangeliets sanning skulle bevaras hos er*2:5hos erAnnan översättning: "för er"..

6 *Apg 4:13. Och de som ansågs betydelsefulla – hurdana de nu*2:6nuAnnan översättning: "förr". var gör ingen skillnad för mig, Gud ser inte till personens yttre – dessa ansedda ville inte ålägga mig något mer*2:6inte ålägga mig något merDe krävde inte att hedningarna skulle omskäras (2:2f).. 7 *Apg 22:21, Rom 11:13, Ef 3:8. Tvärtom, de insåg att jag hade blivit betrodd med evangeliet till de oomskurna liksom Petrus till de omskurna. 8 Han som hade gett Petrus kraft att vara apostel för de omskurna har också gett mig kraft att vara det för hedningarna.

9 Och när Jakob, Kefas och Johannes, de som ansågs vara pelarna, förstod vilken nåd jag hade fått, räckte de mig och Barnabas handen till gemenskap. Vi skulle gå till hedningarna, de till de omskurna. 10 Det enda var att vi skulle tänka på de fattiga*2:10de fattigaDvs församlingen i Jerusalem, som försörjde många änkor (Apg 6:1, Rom 15:26)., och det har jag också varit noga med att göra.

Paulus tillrättavisar Kefas

11 Men när Kefas kom till Antiokia*2:11AntiokiaPlatsen från vilken kontroversen kring omskärelsen togs till Jerusalem (Apg 14:26, 15:1f). gick jag öppet emot honom, eftersom han stod där dömd. 12 *Apg 11:3. Innan det kom några från Jakob*2:12från JakobDvs från den judekristna församlingen i Jerusalem där Jakob var ledare. brukade han nämligen äta tillsammans med hedningarna, men när de hade kommit drog han sig undan och höll sig avskild av rädsla för de omskurna. 13 Även de andra judarna hycklade på samma sätt, så att till och med Barnabas drogs med i deras hyckleri.

14 *1 Tim 5:20. Men när jag såg att de inte var på rätt väg*2:14var på rätt vägAnnan översättning: "vandrade rättframt". efter evangeliets sanning, sade jag till Kefas inför alla: "Om du som är jude kan leva som hedning och inte som jude, varför tvingar du då hedningarna att leva som judar?"

Rättfärdig genom tro, inte gärningar

15 Vi är visserligen judar till födseln och inte hedniska syndare. 16 *Apg 13:38, Rom 1:17, 3:20, 28, Gal 3:11. Men vi vet att människan inte förklaras rättfärdig genom laggärningar utan genom tro på Jesus Kristus. Därför har också vi satt vår tro till Kristus Jesus, för att stå som rättfärdiga genom tro på Kristus*2:16genom tro på Jesus KristusAnnan översättning: "genom Jesu Kristi trofasthet" (även i 3:22, 26). och inte genom laggärningar. Genom laggärningar blir ingen människa rättfärdig.

17 Men om vi som söker rättfärdigheten i Kristus visar oss vara syndare, står Kristus då i syndens tjänst? Verkligen inte! 18 Bara om jag bygger upp igen det jag rev ner gör jag mig till överträdare. 19 *Rom 7:4, Gal 5:24, 6:14. Jag har genom lagen dött bort från lagen för att leva för Gud. Jag är korsfäst med Kristus, 20 *Gal 1:4, Ef 5:2, Tit 2:14. och nu lever inte längre jag, utan Kristus lever i mig. Och det liv jag nu lever i min kropp, det lever jag i tron på Guds Son som har älskat mig och utgett sig för mig. 21 *Hebr 7:11. Jag förkastar inte Guds nåd. För om rättfärdighet kunde nås genom lagen, då hade Kristus dött förgäves.
