Colossenses 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ*1:1 "Christ" means "Anointed One". Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, 2 to the saints and faithful brothers*1:2 The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings." in Christ at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 We give thanks to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 having heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love which you have toward all the saints, 5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in the heavens, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the Good News 6 which has come to you, even as it is in all the world and is bearing fruit and growing, as it does in you also, since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth, 7 even as you learned from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on your*1:7 NU reads our behalf, 8 who also declared to us your love in the Spirit.

9 For this cause, we also, since the day we heard this, don’t cease praying and making requests for you, that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God, 11 strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory, for all endurance and perseverance with joy, 12 giving thanks to the Father, who made us fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light, 13 who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the Kingdom of the Son of his love, 14 in whom we have our redemption,*1:14 TR adds "through his blood," the forgiveness of our sins.

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created in the heavens and on the earth, visible things and invisible things, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things are held together. 18 He is the head of the body, the assembly, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For all the fullness was pleased to dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile all things to himself by him, whether things on the earth or things in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of his cross.

21 You, being in past times alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil deeds, 22 yet now he has reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and without defect and blameless before him, 23 if it is so that you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the Good News which you heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, of which I, Paul, was made a servant.

24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the assembly, 25 of which I was made a servant according to the stewardship of God which was given me toward you to fulfill the word of God, 26 the mystery which has been hidden for ages and generations. But now it has been revealed to his saints, 27 to whom God was pleased to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 We proclaim him, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus; 29 for which I also labor, striving according to his working, which works in me mightily.

Tacksägelse och bön

3 *Ef 1:16, Filem v 4f. Vi tackar alltid Gud, vår Herre Jesu Kristi Far, när vi ber för er. 4 Vi har hört om er tro på Kristus Jesus och om kärleken som ni har till alla de heliga, 5 *Ef 1:13, 1 Petr 1:3f. på grund av hoppet som väntar er i himlen. Detta hopp har ni redan hört om i sanningens ord, evangeliet 6 *Mark 4:8, Apg 6:7. som har nått fram till er liksom det överallt i världen växer och bär frukt. Så även hos er, från den dag ni fick höra det och lärde känna Guds nåd som den verkligen är. 7 *Filem v 23. Det fick ni lära er av Epafras, vår käre medarbetare som troget tjänar Kristus i vårt ställe*1:7tjänar Kristus i vårt ställesom utsänd till församlingen, troligen medan Paulus själv undervisade i Efesos (Apg 19:10).. 8 Han har berättat för oss om er kärlek i Anden.

9 *Rom 12:2, Ef 1:17, Fil 1:9. Från den dag vi hörde det har vi därför inte upphört att be för er. Vi ber att ni ska bli fyllda av kunskapen om hans vilja, med all andlig vishet och insikt. 10 *Ef 4:1, Fil 1:27. Målet är att ni ska leva värdigt Herren och behaga honom på alla sätt, genom att bära frukt i alla slags goda gärningar och växa i kunskapen om Gud. 11 *Ef 3:16. Då ska hans härlighets makt styrka er och ge er all kraft till att vara uthålliga och tåliga i allt. 12 *Apg 26:18, Ef 1:11. Med glädje ska ni då tacka Fadern, som har gjort er värdiga att få del i det arv som de heliga har i ljuset.

I Sonens rike

13 *Ef 5:8, 1 Petr 2:9. Han har frälst oss från mörkrets välde och fört oss in i sin älskade Sons rike. 14 *Rom 3:24, Ef 1:7. I honom är vi friköpta och har förlåtelse för våra synder.

15 *2 Kor 4:4f, Hebr 1:3, Upp 3:14. Han är den osynlige Gudens avbild, förstfödd före allt skapat, 16 *Joh 1:3, 10, 1 Kor 8:6, Hebr 1:2. för i honom skapades allt i himlen och på jorden: synligt och osynligt, tronfurstar och herradömen, härskare och makter – allt är skapat genom honom och till honom. 17 *Joh 1:1. Han är till före allt, och allt hålls samman genom honom.

18 *Apg 26:23, 1 Kor 15:20, Ef 1:22f. Och han är huvudet för sin kropp, församlingen. Han är begynnelsen, den förstfödde från de döda, för att han i allt skulle vara den främste. 19 *Ef 1:23. Gud beslöt att låta hela fullheten bo i honom 20 *Rom 5:10, 2 Kor 5:18, Kol 2:14. och genom honom försona allt med sig själv, sedan han skapat frid i kraft av blodet på hans kors – frid genom honom både på jorden och i himlen.

21 *Rom 8:7, Ef 2:1f. Också ni, som en gång var främmande och fientliga till sinnet genom era onda gärningar, 22 *Ef 1:4, Tit 2:14. också er har han nu försonat med sig genom att lida döden i sin jordiska kropp. Han vill föra fram er heliga, fläckfria och oantastliga inför honom, 23 *1 Kor 15:58, Ef 3:17f. om ni verkligen står fasta och grundade i tron och inte låter er rubbas från hoppet i det evangelium som ni har hört och som har predikats för allt skapat under himlen och som jag, Paulus, har blivit satt att tjäna.

Apostelns tjänst

24 *Rom 12:5, 2 Kor 4:10, Ef 3:13, Fil 2:17. Nu gläder jag mig mitt i mina lidanden för er, och det som fattas av Kristuslidanden uppfyller jag i mitt liv för hans kropp, som är församlingen. 25 *1 Kor 9:17, Ef 3:2. Dess tjänare har jag blivit genom det uppdrag som Gud gav mig för er skull: att överallt predika*1:25överallt predikaAnnan översättning: "uppfylla". Guds ord, 26 *Rom 16:25f, Ef 1:9. den hemlighet som varit dold genom tider och generationer men nu har uppenbarats för hans heliga. 27 *Rom 8:10, 9:23.
