1 Paul, an apostle of Christ*1:1 "Christ" means "Anointed One". Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the assembly of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ. 6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer. 7 Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that, since you are partakers of the sufferings, so you are also of the comfort.

8 For we don’t desire to have you uninformed, brothers,*1:8 The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings." concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia: that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life. 9 Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, 10 who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver, on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us, 11 you also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift given to us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on your*1:11 + MT: your; TR and NU: our behalf.

12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you. 13 For we write no other things to you than what you read or even acknowledge, and I hope you will acknowledge to the end— 14 as also you acknowledged us in part—that we are your boasting, even as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.

15 In this confidence, I was determined to come first to you, that you might have a second benefit, 16 and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be sent forward by you on my journey to Judea. 17 When I therefore planned this, did I show fickleness? Or the things that I plan, do I plan according to the flesh, that with me there should be the "Yes, yes" and the "No, no?" 18 But as God is faithful, our word toward you was not "Yes and no." 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not "Yes and no," but in him is "Yes." 20 For however many are the promises of God, in him is the "Yes." Therefore also through him is the "Amen", to the glory of God through us.

21 Now he who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, 22 who also sealed us and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts.

23 But I call God for a witness to my soul, that to spare you, I didn’t come to Corinth. 24 We don’t control your faith, but are fellow workers with you for your joy. For you stand firm in faith.

3 Binecuvântat*Efes. 1:3.1 Pet. 1:3. să fie Dumnezeu, Tatăl Domnului nostru Isus Hristos, Părintele îndurărilor și Dumnezeul oricărei mângâieri, 4 care ne mângâie în toate necazurile noastre, pentru ca, prin mângâierea cu care noi înșine suntem mângâiați de Dumnezeu, să putem mângâia pe cei ce se află în vreun necaz! 5 Căci, după cum avem parte din belșug de suferințele*Fapte 9:4. Cap. 4:10.Col. 1:24. lui Hristos, tot așa, prin Hristos avem parte din belșug și de mângâiere. 6 Așa că, dacă suntem în necaz, suntem pentru mângâierea și mântuirea voastră; dacă suntem mângâiați, suntem pentru mângâierea voastră, care se arată prin faptul că răbdați aceleași suferințe*Cap. 4:15. ca și noi. 7 Și nădejdea noastră pentru voi este neclintită, pentru că știm că, dacă*Rom. 8:17.2 Tim. 2:12. aveți parte de suferințe, aveți parte și de mângâiere. 8 În adevăr, fraților, nu voim să vă lăsăm în necunoștință despre necazul*Fapte 19:23.1 Cor. 15:32;16:9. care ne-a lovit în Asia, de care am fost apăsați peste măsură de mult, mai presus de puterile noastre, așa că nici nu mai trăgeam nădejde de viață. 9 Ba încă ne spunea gândul că trebuie să murim, pentru ca să ne punem încrederea nu*Ier. 17:5,7. în noi înșine, ci în Dumnezeu, care înviază morții. 10 El*2 Pet. 2:9. ne-a izbăvit și ne izbăvește dintr-o astfel de moarte și avem nădejde că ne va mai izbăvi încă. 11 Voi înșivă ne veți*Rom. 15:30.Filip. 1:19.Filim. 22. ajuta cu rugăciunile voastre, pentru ca binefacerea*Cap. 4:15. făcută nouă prin rugăciunile multora să fie pentru mulți un prilej de mulțumiri lui Dumnezeu pentru noi.

12 Lauda noastră este mărturia pe care ne-o dă cugetul nostru că ne-am purtat în lume, și mai ales față de voi, cu o sfințenie și curăție*Cap. 2:17;4:2. de inimă date de Dumnezeu, bizuindu-ne nu*1 Cor. 2:4,13. pe o înțelepciune lumească, ci pe harul lui Dumnezeu. 13 Nu vă scriem altceva decât ce citiți și cunoașteți. Și trag nădejde că până la sfârșit veți cunoaște, 14 cum ați și cunoscut în parte, că*Cap. 5:12. noi suntem lauda voastră, după cum și voi*Filip. 2:16;4:1.1 Tes. 2:19,20. veți fi lauda noastră în ziua Domnului Isus. 15 În această încredințare voiam*1 Cor. 4:19. să vin mai înainte la voi, ca să aveți un*Rom. 1:11. al doilea har. 16 Voiam să trec pe la voi ca să mă duc în Macedonia; apoi*1 Cor. 16:5,6. din Macedonia să mă întorc la voi și să fiu petrecut de voi în Iudeea. 17 În luarea hotărârii acesteia, am lucrat eu în chip ușuratic? Sau hotărârile mele sunt niște hotărâri pe care le iau în felul lumii*Cap. 10:2., ca să fie în mine „Da, da" și „Nu, nu"? 18 Credincios este Dumnezeu că vorbirea noastră față de voi n-a fost și „Da", și „Nu". 19 Căci Fiul*Marcu 1:1.Luca 1:35.Fapte 9:20. lui Dumnezeu, Isus Hristos, care a fost propovăduit de noi în mijlocul vostru, prin mine, prin Silvan și prin Timotei, n-a fost „Da" și „Nu", ci*Evr. 13:8. în El nu este decât „Da". 20 În adevăr*Rom. 15:8,9., făgăduințele lui Dumnezeu, oricâte ar fi ele, toate în El sunt „Da"; de aceea și „Amin" pe care-l spunem noi, prin El, este spre slava lui Dumnezeu. 21 Și Cel ce ne întărește împreună cu voi, în Hristos, și care ne-a*1 Ioan 2:20,27. uns este Dumnezeu. 22 El ne-a*Efes. 1:13;4:30.2 Tim. 2:19.Apoc. 2:17. și pecetluit și ne-a*Cap. 5:5.Efes. 1:14. pus în inimă arvuna Duhului.

23 Iau*Rom. 1:9. Cap. 11:31.Gal. 1:20.Filip. 1:8. pe Dumnezeu martor față de sufletul meu că n-am mai venit până acum la Corint tocmai ca*1 Cor. 4:21. Cap. 2:3;12:20;13:2,10. să vă cruț. 24 Nu doar că*1 Cor. 3:5.1 Pet. 5:3. am avea stăpânire peste credința voastră, dar vrem să lucrăm și noi împreună la bucuria voastră, căci stați tari în*Rom. 11:20.1 Cor. 15:1. credință.
