2 Chronicles 28

1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. He didn’t do that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, like David his father, 2 but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also made molten images for the Baals. 3 Moreover he burned incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burned his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel. 4 He sacrificed and burned incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

5 Therefore Yahweh his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria. They struck him, and carried away from him a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. He was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with a great slaughter. 6 For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed in Judah one hundred twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men, because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. 7 Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king’s son, Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkanah who was next to the king. 8 The children of Israel carried away captive of their brothers two hundred thousand women, sons, and daughters, and also took away much plunder from them, and brought the plunder to Samaria. 9 But a prophet of Yahweh was there, whose name was Oded; and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, "Behold, because Yahweh, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven. 10 Now you intend to degrade the children of Judah and Jerusalem as male and female slaves for yourselves. Aren’t there even with you trespasses of your own against Yahweh your God? 11 Now hear me therefore, and send back the captives that you have taken captive from your brothers, for the fierce wrath of Yahweh is on you." 12 Then some of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against those who came from the war, 13 and said to them, "You must not bring in the captives here, for you intend that which will bring on us a trespass against Yahweh, to add to our sins and to our guilt; for our guilt is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel."

14 So the armed men left the captives and the plunder before the princes and all the assembly. 15 The men who have been mentioned by name rose up and took the captives, and with the plunder clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.

16 At that time King Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him. 17 For again the Edomites had come and struck Judah, and carried away captives. 18 The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco with its villages, Timnah with its villages, and also Gimzo and its villages; and they lived there. 19 For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, because he acted without restraint in Judah and trespassed severely against Yahweh. 20 Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came to him and gave him trouble, but didn’t strengthen him. 21 For Ahaz took away a portion out of Yahweh’s house, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria; but it didn’t help him.

22 In the time of his distress, he trespassed yet more against Yahweh, this same King Ahaz. 23 For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus which had defeated him. He said, "Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them, that they may help me." But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel. 24 Ahaz gathered together the vessels of God’s house, cut the vessels of God’s house in pieces, and shut up the doors of Yahweh’s house; and he made himself altars in every corner of Jerusalem. 25 In every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked Yahweh, the God of his fathers, to anger.

26 Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 27 Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem, because they didn’t bring him into the tombs of the kings of Israel; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.

Cap. 33:6. săi prin foc, după urâciunile neamurilor pe care le izgonise Domnul dinaintea copiilor lui Israel. 4 Aducea jertfe și tămâie pe înălțimi, pe dealuri și sub orice copac verde. 5 Domnul*Is. 7:1. Dumnezeul său l-a dat în mâinile împăratului Siriei. Sirienii l-au*2 Împ. 16:5,6. bătut și i-au luat un mare număr de prinși de război, pe care i-au dus la Damasc. A fost dat și în mâinile împăratului lui Israel, care i-a pricinuit o mare înfrângere. 6 Pecah*2 Împ. 15:27., fiul lui Remalia, a ucis într-o singură zi în Iuda o sută douăzeci de mii de oameni, toți viteji, pentru că părăsiseră pe Domnul Dumnezeul părinților lor. 7 Zicri, un războinic din Efraim, a ucis pe Maaseia, fiul împăratului, pe Azricam, căpetenia casei împărătești, și pe Elcana, care era al doilea după împărat. 8 Copiii lui Israel au luat dintre frații*Cap. 11:4. lor două sute de mii de prinși de război, femei, fii și fiice, și le-au luat multă pradă, pe care au adus-o la Samaria. 9 Acolo era un proroc al Domnului, numit Oded. El a ieșit înaintea oștirii care se întorcea la Samaria și le-a zis: „În mânia Sa împotriva lui Iuda i-a dat*Ps. 69:26.Is. 10:5;47:6.Ezec. 25:12,15;26:2.Obad. 10.Zah. 1:15. Domnul Dumnezeul părinților voștri în mâinile voastre, și voi i-ați ucis cu o furie care s-a ridicat până la*Ezra 9:6.Apoc. 18:5. ceruri. 10 Și credeți acum că veți face din copiii lui Iuda și din Ierusalim robii și roabele*Lev. 25:39,42,43,46. voastre? Dar voi nu sunteți vinovați înaintea Domnului Dumnezeului vostru? 11 Ascultați-mă dar și dați drumul acestor prinși pe care i-ați luat dintre frații voștri, căci mânia aprinsă*Iac. 2:13. a Domnului este peste voi!" 12 Unii dintre capii fiilor lui Efraim: Azaria, fiul lui Iohanan, Berechia, fiul lui Meșilemot, Ezechia, fiul lui Șalum, și Amasa, fiul lui Hadlai, s-au ridicat împotriva celor ce se întorceau de la oștire 13 și le-au zis: „Să nu aduceți aici pe acești prinși de război. Căci, după ce că suntem vinovați înaintea Domnului, voi vreți să mai și adăugați la păcatele și la greșelile noastre. Suntem foarte vinovați, și mânia aprinsă a Domnului este peste Israel." 14 Ostașii au lăsat pe prinșii de război și prada înaintea căpeteniilor și înaintea întregii adunări. 15 Și oamenii numiți pe nume pentru aceasta s-au sculat*Vers. 12. și au luat pe prinșii de război, au îmbrăcat cu prada pe toți cei ce erau goi, le-au dat haine și încălțăminte, le-au dat să mănânce*2 Împ. 6:22.Prov. 25:21,22.Luca 6:27.Rom. 12:20. și să bea, i-au uns, au încălecat pe măgari pe toți cei osteniți și i-au adus la Ierihon, Cetatea Finicilor*Deut. 34:3.Jud. 1:16., la frații lor. Apoi s-au întors la Samaria.

Pedepsele asupra lui Ahaz

16 Pe vremea*2 Împ. 16:7. aceea, împăratul Ahaz a trimis să ceară ajutor de la împărații Asiriei. 17 Edomiții au venit iarăși, au bătut pe Iuda și le-au luat prinși de război. 18 Filistenii*Ezec. 16:27,57. au năvălit în cetățile din câmpie și din partea de miazăzi a lui Iuda; au luat Bet-Șemeșul, Aialonul, Ghederotul, Socoul și satele lui, Timna și satele ei, Ghimzoul și satele lui și s-au așezat acolo. 19 Căci Domnul a smerit pe Iuda din pricina lui Ahaz, împăratul lui Israel*Cap. 21:2., care avusese o purtare fără frâu*Exod 32:25. în Iuda și păcătuise împotriva Domnului. 20 Tiglat-Pilneser*2 Împ. 15:29;16:7-9., împăratul Asiriei, a venit împotriva lui, s-a purtat cu el cum s-ar purta cu un vrăjmaș și nu l-a ajutat. 21 Căci Ahaz a prădat Casa Domnului, casa împăratului și a mai-marilor, ca să facă daruri împăratului Asiriei, dar nu i-a ajutat la nimic. 22 Pe vremea aceea, chiar când era la strâmtorare, a păcătuit și mai mult împotriva Domnului, el, împăratul Ahaz. 23 A adus jertfă*Cap. 25:14. dumnezeilor Damascului, care-l bătuseră, și a zis: „Fiindcă dumnezeii împăraților Siriei le vin în ajutor, le voi aduce și eu jertfe, ca să-mi*Ier. 44:17,18. ajute." Dar ei au fost prilejul căderii lui și a întregului Israel. 24 Ahaz a strâns uneltele din Casa lui Dumnezeu și a făcut bucăți uneltele din Casa lui Dumnezeu. A închis*Cap. 29:3,7. ușile Casei Domnului, și-a făcut altare în toate colțurile Ierusalimului 25 și a ridicat înălțimi în fiecare cetate a lui Iuda, ca să aducă tămâie altor dumnezei. Și a mâniat astfel pe Domnul Dumnezeul părinților săi. 26 Celelalte*2 Împ. 16:19,20. fapte ale lui și toate căile lui, cele dintâi și cele de pe urmă, sunt scrise în cartea împăraților lui Iuda și Israel. 27 Ahaz a adormit cu părinții săi și a fost îngropat în cetatea Ierusalimului, căci nu l-au pus în mormintele împăraților lui Israel. Și, în locul lui, a domnit fiul său Ezechia.
