| 1 | Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons; | A Lélek pedig nyilván mondja, hogy az utolsó idõben némelyek elszakadnak a hittõl, hitetõ lelkekre és gonosz lelkek tanításaira figyelmezvén. |
| 2 | Speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron; | Hazug beszédûeknek képmutatása által, kik meg vannak bélyegezve a saját lelkiismeretökben. |
| 3 | Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by them who believe and know the truth. | A kik tiltják a házasságot, [sürgetik] az eledelektõl való tartózkodást, melyeket Isten teremtett hálaadással való élvezésre a hívõknek és azoknak, a kik megismerték az igazságot. |
| 4 | For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if received with thanksgiving: | Mert Istennek minden teremtett állata jó, és semmi sem megvetendõ, ha hálaadással élnek azzal; |
| 5 | For it is sanctified by the word of God, and prayer. | Mert megszenteltetik Istennek ígéje és könyörgés által. |
| 6 | If thou shalt put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou wilt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished by the words of faith and of good doctrine, to which thou hast attained. | Ezeket ha eleikbe adod az atyafiaknak, Krisztus Jézusnak jó szolgája leszel, táplálkozván a hitnek és jó tudománynak beszédeivel, a melyet követtél; |
| 7 | But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather to godliness. | A szentségtelen és vénasszonyos meséket pedig eltávoztasd. Hanem gyakorold magadat a kegyességre: |
| 8 | For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. | Mert a test gyakorlásának kevés haszna van; de a kegyesség mindenre hasznos, meglévén benne a jelenvaló és a jövõ életnek ígérete. |
| 9 | This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation. | Igaz ez a beszéd, és méltó, hogy mindenképpen elfogadjuk. |
| 10 | For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God who is the Savior of all men, especially of those that believe. | Mert azért fáradunk és szenvedünk szidalmakat, mivelhogy reménységünket vetettük az élõ Istenben, a ki minden embernek megtartója, kiváltképen a hívõknek. |
| 11 | These things command and teach. | Ezeket hirdessed és tanítsad. |
| 12 | Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in deportment, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. | Senki a te ifjúságodat meg ne vesse, hanem légy példa a hívõknek a beszédben, a magaviseletben, a szeretetben, a lélekben, a hitben, a tisztaságban. |
| 13 | Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. | A míg oda megyek, legyen gondod a felolvasásra, az intésre és a tanításra. |
| 14 | Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. | Meg ne vesd a kegyelemnek benned való ajándékát, a mely adatott néked prófétálás által, a presbitérium kezeinek reád tevésével. |
| 15 | Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. | Ezekrõl gondoskodjál, ezeken légy, hogy elõhaladásod nyilvánvaló legyen mindenek elõtt. |
| 16 | Take heed to thyself and to thy doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou wilt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. | Gondot viselj magadról és a tudományról; maradj meg azokban; mert ezt cselekedvén, mind magadat megtartod, mind a te hallgatóidat. |
