1 And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz. Vala pedig Naóminak egy rokona az õ férje után, elõkelõ derék ember Elimélek nemzetségébõl; neve Boáz.
2 And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said to her, Go, my daughter. És monda a Moábita Ruth Naóminak: Hadd menjek, kérlek, a mezõre, hogy kalászokat szedegessek az után, a kinek szemei elõtt kedvességet találok. És az monda: Menj édes leányom.
3 And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her lot was to light on a part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech. Elméne azért és odaérkezék, szedegete a mezõn az aratók után, és történetesen oda talált a Boáz szántóföldjére, a ki Elimélek nemzetségébõl való volt.
4 mapa And behold, Boaz came from Beth-lehem, and said to the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee. És ímé Boáz kijöve Bethlehembõl, és monda az aratóknak: Az Úr legyen veletek! És õk mondának néki: Áldjon meg téged az Úr!
5 Then said Boaz to his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this? És monda Boáz az õ szolgájának, a ki az aratók felügyelõje volt: Kié ez a leányzó?
6 mapa And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi from the country of Moab: És felele a szolga, az aratók felügyelõje, és monda: Az a Moábita leányzó ez, a ki Naómival jött a Moáb mezejérõl.
7 And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house. A ki mondá: Hadd szedegessek, kérlek, és hadd tarlózgassak a kévék közt az aratók után. És ide jöve, és itt marada reggeltõl fogva mind mostanig: és csak épen most pihent egy keveset a házban.
8 Then said Boaz to Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens: És mondá Boáz Ruthnak: Ugyan hallod-é édes leányom! Ne menj szedegetni más mezõre és el ne menj innen; hanem menj [mindenütt] szolgálóim után.
9 Let thy eyes be on the field that they are reaping, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art thirsty go to the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn. Szemeid legyenek a mezõn, a melyet aratnak, és járj utánok. Ímé meghagytam a szolgáknak, hogy ne bántsanak téged, és ha megszomjúhozol, menj az edényekhez és igyál abból, a mit a szolgák merítenek.
10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, Why have I found grace in thy eyes, that thou shouldst take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger? Akkor ez arczra borula és meghajtá magát a földig, és monda néki: Hogy- hogy találtam [ilyen] kedvességet a te szemeid elõtt, hogy rám tekintettél, holott én idegen vagyok?
11 And Boaz answered and said to her, It hath fully been shown to me, all that thou hast done to thy mother-in-law since the death of thy husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and hast come to a people which thou knewest not heretofore. Boáz pedig felele, és monda néki: Bizony elmondtak nékem mindent, amit cselekedtél a te napaddal, férjed halála után, hogy elhagytad a te atyádat és a te anyádat és a te születésednek földét, és jöttél ahhoz a néphez, a melyet nem ismertél azelõtt.
12 The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou hast come to trust. Fizessen meg az Úr a te cselekedetedért, és legyen teljes a te jutalmad az Úrtól, Izráelnek Istenétõl, a kinek szárnyai alatt oltalmat keresni jöttél.
13 Then she said, Let me find favor in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken kindly to thy handmaid, though I am not like to one of thy handmaidens. Ez pedig monda: Találjak kedvességet a te szemeid elõtt uram, mert megvigasztaltál engem, és mert a te szolgálódnak szívéhez szóltál, holott én nem vagyok a te szolgálóleányaid közül.
14 And Boaz said to her, At meal-time come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she ate, and was satisfied, and left. És az evésnek idejekor szóla néki Boáz: Jer ide, és egyél a kenyérbõl, és mártsd be a te falatodat az eczetes [lébe]. És õ leüle az aratók mellé. És pergelt gabonát nyújtott néki, és evett, s jóllakott, sõt még hagyott is.
15 And when she had risen to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not: Azután felállott, hogy szedegessen és Boáz megparancsolta az õ szolgáinak, mondván: A kévék között is hadd szedegessen, és meg ne pirongassátok õt.
16 And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not. Sõt húzogassatok ki néki a kévékbõl is, és hagyogassatok el, hogy szedje fel, és meg ne dorgáljátok õt.
17 So she gleaned in the field until evening, and beat out that which she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley. És õ szedegete a mezõn mind estiglen, és kicsépelé, a mit szedegetett, és lett abból szinte egy efa árpa.
18 And she took it, and went into the city: and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her what she had reserved after she was satisfied. És felvevé és beméne a városba, és napaasszonya látá, a mit õ szedegetett. Aztán elõvevé és odaadá néki, a mit meghagyott, minekutána jóllakott vala.
19 And her mother-in-law said to her, Where hast thou gleaned to-day? and where hast thou labored? blessed be he that took knowledge of thee. And she showed her mother-in-law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought to-day is Boaz. És monda néki az õ napaasszonya: Hol szedegettél ma, és hol munkálkodtál? Áldott legyen, a ki rád tekintett. És elbeszélte az õ napaasszonyának, hogy kinél munkálkodott, és monda: Annak a férfiúnak a neve, a kinél ma munkálkodtam: Boáz.
20 And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said to her, The man is near of kin to us, one of our next kinsmen. És monda Naómi az õ menyének: Áldott legyen õ az Úrtól, a ki nem vonta meg irgalmasságát az élõktõl és a megholtaktól! És Naómi monda néki: Közel valónk nékünk az a férfiú; legközelebbi rokonaink közül való õ.
21 And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said to me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest. És szóla a Moábita Ruth: Még azt is mondta õ nékem: Menj [mindenütt] az én munkásaim után, a míg csak el nem végzik az én egész aratásomat.
22 And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, It is good, my daughter, that thou shouldst go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field. És monda Naómi Ruthnak, az õ menyének: Jó, édes leányom, hogy az õ szolgálóival jársz, ne is találjanak téged más mezõn.
23 So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean to the end of barley-harvest and of wheat-harvest; and dwelt with her mother-in-law. Így járt õ [mindenütt] a Boáz szolgálói után, szedegetve, míg az árpaaratás és búzaaratás bevégzõdött; és az õ napaasszonyával lakott.
