1 Melhor é um bocado seco, e com ele a tranqüilidade, do que a casa cheia de festins, com rixas.
2 O servo prudente dominará sobre o filho que procede indignamente; e entre os irmãos receberá da herança.
3 O crisol é para a prata, e o forno para o ouro; mas o Senhor é que prova os corações.
4 O malfazejo atenta para o lábio iníquo; o mentiroso inclina os ouvidos para a língua maligna.
5 O que escarnece do pobre insulta ao seu Criador; o que se alegra da calamidade não ficará impune.
6 Coroa dos velhos são os filhos dos filhos; e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.
7 Não convém ao tolo a fala excelente; quanto menos ao príncipe o lábio mentiroso!
8 Pedra preciosa é a peita aos olhos de quem a oferece; para onde quer que ele se volte, serve-lhe de proveito.
9 O que perdoa a transgressão busca a amizade; mas o que renova a questão, afastam amigos íntimos.
10 Mais profundamente entra a repreensão no prudente, do que cem açoites no insensato.
11 O rebelde não busca senão o mal; portanto um mensageiro cruel será enviado contra ele.
12 Encontre-se o homem com a ursa roubada dos filhotes, mas não com o insensato na sua estultícia.
13 Quanto àquele que torna mal por bem, não se apartará o mal da sua casa.
14 O princípio da contenda é como o soltar de águas represadas; deixa por isso a porfia, antes que haja rixas.
15 O que justifica o ímpio, e o que condena o justo, são abomináveis ao Senhor, tanto um como o outro.
16 De que serve o preço na mão do tolo para comprar a sabedoria, visto que ele não tem entendimento?
17 O amigo ama em todo o tempo; e para a angústia nasce o irmão.
18 O homem falto de entendimento compromete-se, tornando-se fiador na presença do seu vizinho.
19 O que ama a contenda ama a transgressão; o que faz alta a sua porta busca a ruína.
20 O perverso de coração nunca achará o bem; e o que tem a língua dobre virá a cair no mal.
21 O que gera um tolo, para sua tristeza o faz; e o pai do insensato não se alegrará.
22 O coração alegre serve de bom remédio; mas o espírito abatido seca os ossos.
23 O ímpio recebe do regaço a peita, para perverter as veredas da justiça.
24 O alvo do inteligente é a sabedoria; mas os olhos do insensato estão nas extremidades da terra.
25 O filho insensato é tristeza para seu, pai, e amargura para quem o deu à luz.
26 Não é bom punir ao justo, nem ferir aos nobres por causa da sua retidão.
27 Refreia as suas palavras aquele que possui o conhecimento; e o homem de entendimento é de espírito sereno.
28 Até o tolo, estando calado, é tido por sábio; e o que cerra os seus lábios, por entendido.

2 A wise servant ruleth over a son causing shame, And in the midst of brethren He apportioneth an inheritance.
3 A refining pot [is] for silver, and a furnace for gold, And the trier of hearts [is] Jehovah.
4 An evil doer is attentive to lips of vanity, Falsehood is giving ear to a mischievous tongue.
5 Whoso is mocking at the poor Hath reproached his Maker, Whoso is rejoicing at calamity is not acquitted.
6 Sons` sons [are] the crown of old men, And the glory of sons [are] their fathers.
7 Not comely for a fool is a lip of excellency, Much less for a noble a lip of falsehood.
8 A stone of grace [is] the bribe in the eyes of its possessors, Whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
9 Whoso is covering transgression is seeking love, And whoso is repeating a matter Is separating a familiar friend.
10 Rebuke cometh down on the intelligent More than a hundred stripes on a fool.
11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion, And a fierce messenger is sent against him.
12 The meeting of a bereaved bear by a man, And -- not a fool in his folly.
13 Whoso is returning evil for good, Evil moveth not from his house.
14 The beginning of contention [is] a letting out of waters, And before it is meddled with leave the strife.
15 Whoso is justifying the wicked, And condemning the righteous, Even both of these [are] an abomination to Jehovah.
16 Why [is] this -- a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, And a heart there is none?
17 At all times is the friend loving, And a brother for adversity is born.
18 A man lacking heart is striking hands, A surety he becometh before his friend.
19 Whoso is loving transgression is loving debate, Whoso is making high his entrance is seeking destruction.
20 The perverse of heart findeth not good, And the turned in his tongue falleth into evil.
21 Whoso is begetting a fool hath affliction for it, Yea, the father of a fool rejoiceth not.
22 A rejoicing heart doth good to the body, And a smitten spirit drieth the bone.
23 A bribe from the bosom the wicked taketh, To turn aside the paths of judgment.
24 The face of the intelligent [is] to wisdom, And the eyes of a fool -- at the end of the earth.
25 A provocation to his father [is] a foolish son, And bitterness to her that bare him.
26 Also, to fine the righteous is not good, To smite nobles for uprightness.
27 One acquainted with knowledge is sparing his words, And the cool of temper [is] a man of understanding.
28 Even a fool keeping silence is reckoned wise, He who is shutting his lips intelligent!
