Isaías 34

A ira de Deus contra as nações

1 Chegai-vos, nações,

para ouvir,

e vós povos, escutai;

ouça a terra,

e a sua plenitude,

o mundo,

e tudo quanto produz.

2 Porque a indignação

do Senhor está sobre todas as nações,

e o seu furor

sobre todo o exército delas;

ele as destruiu totalmente,

entregou-as à matança.

3 E os seus mortos serão arremessados

e dos seus cadáveres subirá o seu mau cheiro;

e os montes se derreterão

com o

seu sangue.

4 E todo o exército

dos céus se dissolverá,

e os céus se enrolarão

como um livro;

e todo o seu exército cairá,

como cai a folha da vide e

como cai o figo da figueira.

5 Porque a minha espada se embriagou

nos céus; eis que

sobre Edom descerá,

e sobre o povo

do meu anátema

para exercer juízo.

6 A espada do Senhor está cheia

de sangue,

está engordurada

da gordura do sangue

de cordeiros e de bodes,

da gordura dos rins de carneiros;

porque o Senhor tem sacrifício

em Bozra,

e grande matança

na terra de Edom.

7 E os bois selvagens cairão

com eles, e os bezerros

com os touros;

e a sua terra embriagar-se-á

de sangue até se fartar,

e o seu pó se engrossará

com a gordura.

8 Porque será o dia

da vingança do Senhor,

ano de retribuições

pela contenda de Sião.

9 E os seus ribeiros se tornarão

em pez, e o seu pó

em enxofre,

e a sua terra

em pez ardente.

10 Nem de noite nem

de dia se apagará;

para sempre a sua fumaça subirá;

de geração

em geração será assolada;

pelos séculos

dos séculos ninguém

passará por ela.

11 Mas o pelicano

e a coruja a possuirão,

e o bufo e o corvo habitarão nela;

e ele estenderá

sobre ela o cordel

de confusão

e nível de vaidade.

12 Eles chamarão ao reino os seus nobres,

mas nenhum haverá; e todos os seus príncipes

não serão coisa alguma.

13 E nos seus palácios crescerão espinhos,

urtigas e cardos

nas suas fortalezas;

e será uma habitação

de chacais,

e sítio

para avestruzes.

14 As feras do deserto se encontrarão

com as feras da ilha,

e o sátiro clamará ao seu companheiro;

e os animais noturnos ali pousarão,

e acharão lugar

de repouso para si.

15 Ali se aninhará a coruja

e porá os seus ovos,

e tirará os seus filhotes,

e os recolherá debaixo

da sua sombra;

também ali os abutres se ajuntarão uns

com os outros.

16 Buscai no livro do Senhor,

e lede; nenhuma destas coisas faltará,

ninguém faltará com a sua companheira;

porque a minha boca tem ordenado,

e o seu espírito

mesmo as tem

ajuntado.

17 Porque ele mesmo lançou as sortes por elas,

e sua mão lhas tens repartido

com o cordel;

para sempre a possuirão,

de geração

em geração

habitarão nela.

1 Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.*34.1 all that…: Heb. the fulness thereof 2 For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. 3 Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. 4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. 5 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. 6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea. 7 And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.*34.7 unicorns: or, rhinocerots*34.7 soaked: or, drunken 8 For it is the day of the LORD’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.

9 And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. 10 It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

11 But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.*34.11 cormorant: or, pelican 12 They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing. 13 And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.*34.13 owls: or, ostriches: Heb. daughters of the owl 14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.*34.14 The wild beasts of the desert: Heb. Ijim*34.14 screech…: or, night monster 15 There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.

16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them. 17 And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.
