1 Vendo Balaão que bem parecia aos olhos do Senhor que abençoasse a Israel, não se foi esta vez como antes ao encontro dos encantamentos; mas voltou o seu rosto para o deserto.2 E, levantando Balaão os seus olhos, e vendo a Israel, que estava acampado segundo as suas tribos, veio sobre ele o Espírito de Deus.3 E proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Fala, Balaão, filho de Beor, e fala o homem de olhos abertos;4 Fala aquele que ouviu as palavras de Deus, o que vê a visão do Todo-Poderoso; que cai, e se lhe abrem os olhos:5 Quão formosas são as tuas tendas, ó Jacó, as tuas moradas, ó Israel!6 Como ribeiros se estendem, como jardins à beira dos rios; como árvores de sândalo o Senhor os plantou, como cedros junto às águas;7 De seus baldes manarão águas, e a sua semente estará em muitas águas; e o seu rei se erguerá mais do que Agague, e o seu reino será exaltado.8 Deus o tirou do Egito; as suas forças são como as do boi selvagem; consumirá as nações, seus inimigos, e quebrará seus ossos, e com as suas setas os atravessará.9 Encurvou-se, deitou-se como leão, e como leoa; quem o despertará? Benditos os que te abençoarem, e malditos os que te amaldiçoarem.10 Então a ira de Balaque se acendeu contra Balaão, e bateu ele as suas palmas; e Balaque disse a Balaão: Para amaldiçoar os meus inimigos te tenho chamado; porém agora já três vezes os abençoaste inteiramente.11 Agora, pois, foge para o teu lugar; eu tinha dito que te honraria grandemente; mas eis que o Senhor te privou desta honra.12 Então Balaão disse a Balaque: Não falei eu também aos teus mensageiros, que me enviaste, dizendo:13 Ainda que Balaque me desse a sua casa cheia de prata e ouro, não poderia ir além da ordem do Senhor, fazendo bem ou mal de meu próprio coração; o que o Senhor falar, isso falarei eu?14 Agora, pois, eis que me vou ao meu povo; vem, avisar-te-ei do que este povo fará ao teu povo nos últimos dias.15 Então proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Fala Balaão, filho de Beor, e fala o homem de olhos abertos;16 Fala aquele que ouviu as palavras de Deus, e o que sabe o conhecimento do Altíssimo; o que viu a visão do Todo-Poderoso, que cai, e se lhe abrem os olhos.17 Vê-lo-ei, mas não agora, contemplá-lo-ei, mas não de perto; uma estrela procederá de Jacó e um cetro subirá de Israel, que ferirá os termos dos moabitas, e destruirá todos os filhos de Sete.18 E Edom será uma possessão, e Seir, seus inimigos, também será uma possessão; pois Israel fará proezas.19 E dominará um de Jacó, e matará os que restam das cidades.20 E vendo os amalequitas, proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Amaleque é a primeira das nações; porém o seu fim será destruição para sempre.21 E vendo os quenitas, proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Firme está a tua habitação, e puseste o teu ninho na penha.22 Todavia o quenita será consumido, até que Assur te leve por prisioneiro.23 E, proferindo ainda a sua parábola, disse: Ai, quem viverá, quando Deus fizer isto?24 E as naus virão das costas de Quitim e afligirão a Assur; também afligirão a Éber; que também será destruição para sempre.25 Então Balaão levantou-se, e se foi, e voltou ao seu lugar, e também Balaque se foi pelo seu caminho.

1 And when Bil’am saw that it was pleasing in the eyes of the Lord to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.2 And Bil’am lifted up his eyes, and when he saw Israel encamped according to their tribes, there came upon him the spirit of God.3 And he took up his parable, and said, Thus saith Bil’am the son of Beor, and thus saith the man whose eyes are open;4 Thus saith he who heareth the sayings of God, who seeth the vision of the Almighty, falling down, with unvailed eyes:5 How beautiful are thy tents, O Jacob, thy dwelling, O Israel!6 As streams are they spread forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as aloe–trees, which the Lord hath planted, as cedar–trees beside the waters.7 Water runneth out of His buckets, that his seed may be moistened by abundance of water; and exalted above Agag shall be his king, and raised on high shall be his kingdom.8 God, who brought him forth out of Egypt, is to him like the heights of the reem; he will devour nations, his oppressors, and their bones will he break, and pierce them through with his arrows.9 He coucheth, he lieth down as a lion, and as a lioness: who shall make him rise up? They that bless thee be blessed, and they that curse thee be cursed.10 And the anger of Balak was kindled against Bil’am, and he struck his hands together: and Balak said unto Bil’am, To denounce my enemies did I call thee, and, behold, thou hast even blessed them these three times.11 And now flee thou to thy place: I thought to honor thee greatly; but, lo, the Lord hath kept thee back from honor.12 And Bil’am said unto Balak, Did I not already speak to thy messengers, whom thou sentest unto me, saying,13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not transgress the order of the Lord, to do good or evil out of my own heart: what the Lord will speak, that must I speak?14 And now, behold, I am going unto my people: come, I will advise thee against what this people will do to thy people in the end of days.15 And he took up his parable and said, Thus saith Bil’am the son of Beor, and thus saith the man whose eyes are open;16 Thus saith he who heareth the sayings of God, and knoweth the knowledge of the Most High, who seeth the vision of the Almighty, falling down, with unvailed eyes:17 I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh; there steppeth forth a star out of Jacob, and there ariseth a sceptre out of Israel, and he pierceth the chiefs of Moab, and destroyeth all the children of Sheth.18 And Edom shall be a conquest, and Seir shall be a conquest for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.19 And there shall rule the one from Jacob, and he shall destroy whatever escapeth out of the city.20 And he looked on Amalek, and he took up his parable, and said, The first of nations is Amalek; but his latter end shall be destruction for ever.21 And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwelling–place, and placed on the rock is thy nest.22 Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted: whither will Asshur carry thee away captive?23 And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doth appoint this one?24 But ships will come from the coast of Kittim, and will afflict Asshur, and will afflict ‘Eber; and he also will be given to destruction for ever.25 And Bil’am rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.
