1 A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.2 When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivers from death.5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.7 When a wicked man dies, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perishes.8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked comes in his stead.9 An hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.10 When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.12 He that is void of wisdom despises his neighbor: but a man of understanding holds his peace.13 A talebearer reveals secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit conceals the matter.14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hates indebtedness is sure.16 A gracious woman retains honor: and strong men retain riches.17 The merciful man does good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubles his own flesh.18 The wicked works a deceitful work: but to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward.19 As righteousness tends to life: so he that pursues evil pursues it to his own death.20 They that are of a fraudulent heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.22 As a jewel of gold in a swine' snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.24 There is that scatters, and yet increases; and there is that withholds more than is meet, but it tends to poverty.25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that waters shall be watered also himself.26 He that withholds corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be on the head of him that sells it.27 He that diligently seeks good procures favor: but he that seeks mischief, it shall come to him.28 He that trusts in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.29 He that troubles his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that wins souls is wise.31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

1 Le bilance false sono cosa abbominevole al Signore; Ma il peso giusto gli è cosa grata2 Venuta la superbia, viene l’ignominia; Ma la sapienza è con gli umili3 L’integrità degli uomini diritti li conduce; Ma la perversità de’ disleali di distrugge4 Le ricchezze non gioveranno al giorno dell’indegnazione; Ma la giustizia riscoterà da morte5 La giustizia dell’uomo intiero addirizza la via di esso; Ma l’empio caderà per la sua empietà.6 La giustizia degli uomini diritti li riscoterà; Ma i disleali saranno presi per la lor propria malizia7 Quando l’uomo empio muore, la sua aspettazione perisce; E la speranza ch’egli aveva concepita delle sue forze è perduta8 Il giusto è tratto fuor di distretta; Ma l’empio viene in luogo suo9 L’ipocrito corrompe il suo prossimo con la sua bocca; Ma i giusti ne son liberati per conoscimento10 La città festeggia del bene de’ giusti; Ma vi è giubilo quando gli empi periscono.11 La città è innalzata per la benedizione degli uomini diritti; Ma è sovvertita per la bocca degli empi12 Chi sprezza il suo prossimo è privo di senno; Ma l’uomo prudente tace.13 Colui che va sparlando palesa il segreto; Ma chi è leale di spirito cela la cosa14 Il popolo cade in ruina dove non son consigli; Ma vi è salute in moltitudine di consiglieri15 L’uomo certamente sofferirà del male, se fa sicurtà per lo strano; Ma chi odia i mallevadori è sicuro16 La donna graziosa otterrà gloria, Come i possenti ottengono ricchezze17 L’uomo benigno fa bene a sè stesso; Ma il crudele conturba la sua propria carne18 L’empio fa un’opera fallace; Ma vi è un premio sicuro per colui che semina giustizia19 Così è la giustizia a vita, Come chi procaccia il male lo procaccia alla sua morte20 I perversi di cuore sono un abbominio al Signore; Ma quelli che sono intieri di via son ciò che gli è grato21 Il malvagio d’ora in ora non resterà impunito; Ma la progenie de’ giusti scamperà22 Una donna bella, ma scema di senno, È un monile d’oro nel grifo d’un porco23 Il desiderio de’ giusti non è altro che bene; Ma la speranza degli empi è indegnazione24 Vi è tale che spande, e pur vie più diventa ricco; E tale che risparmia oltre al diritto, e pur ne diventa sempre più povero25 La persona liberale sarà ingrassata; E chi annaffia sarà anch’esso annaffiato26 Il popolo maledirà chi serra il grano; Ma benedizione sarà sopra il capo di chi lo vende27 Chi cerca il bene procaccia benevolenza; Ma il male avverrà a chi lo cerca28 Chi si confida nelle sue ricchezze caderà; Ma i giusti germoglieranno a guisa di frondi29 Chi dissipa la sua casa possederà del vento; E lo stolto sarà servo a chi è savio di cuore30 Il frutto del giusto è un albero di vita; E il savio prende le anime31 Ecco, il giusto riceve la sua retribuzione in terra; Quanto più la riceverà l’empio e il peccatore?
