1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeks and intermeddles with all wisdom.2 A fool has no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.3 When the wicked comes, then comes also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.4 The words of a man' mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.6 A fool' lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes.7 A fool' mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it, and is safe.11 The rich man' wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.13 He that answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?15 The heart of the prudent gets knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.16 A man' gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.17 He that is first in his own cause seems just; but his neighbor comes and searches him.18 The lot causes contentions to cease, and parts between the mighty.19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.20 A man' belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.22 Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the LORD.23 The poor uses entreaties; but the rich answers roughly.24 A man that has friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

1 Colui che si separa cerca le sue cupidità, E schernisce ogni legge e ragione2 Lo stolto non si diletta nella prudenza, Ma in ciò che il cuor suo si manifesti3 Quando viene un empio, viene anche lo sprezzo, E il vituperio con ignominia4 Le parole della bocca dell’uomo eccellente sono acque profonde; La fonte di sapienza è un torrente che sgorga5 Egli non è bene d’aver riguardo alla qualità dell’empio, Per far torto al giusto nel giudicio6 Le labbra dello stolto entrano in contesa, E la sua bocca chiama le percosse.7 La bocca dello stolto è la sua ruina, E le sue labbra sono il laccio dell’anima sua8 Le parole di chi va bisbigliando paiono lusinghevoli; Ma scendono fin nell’interiora del ventre9 Chi si porta rimessamente nel suo lavoro, È fratello dell’uomo dissipatore10 Il Nome del Signore è una forte torre; Il giusto vi ricorrerà, e sarà in salvo in luogo elevato11 I beni del ricco son la sua città di fortezza, E come un alto muro alla sua immaginazione12 Il cuor dell’uomo s’innalza avanti la ruina; Ma l’umiltà va davanti alla gloria13 Chi fa risposta prima che abbia udito, Ciò gli è pazzia e vituperio14 Lo spirito dell’uomo sostiene l’infermità di esso; Ma chi solleverà lo spirito afflitto? 15 Il cuor dell’uomo intendente acquista scienza; E l’orecchio de’ savi cerca conoscimento16 Il presente dell’uomo gli fa far largo, E lo conduce davanti a’ grandi17 Chi è il primo a piatir la sua causa ha ragione; Ma il suo compagno vien poi, ed esamina quello ch’egli ha detto18 La sorte fa cessar le liti, E fa gli spartimenti fra i potenti19 Il fratello offeso è più inespugnabile che una forte città; E le contese tra fratelli son come le sbarre di un palazzo20 Il ventre dell’uomo sarà saziato del frutto della sua bocca; Egli sarà saziato della rendita delle sue labbra21 Morte e vita sono in poter della lingua; E chi l’ama mangerà del frutto di essa22 Chi ha trovata moglie ha trovata una buona cosa, Ed ha ottenuto favor del Signore23 Il povero parla supplichevolmente; Ma il ricco risponde duramente24 Un uomo che ha degli amici deve portarsi da amico; E vi è tale amico, che è più congiunto che un fratello
