15 Then when they had taken food, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, is your love for me greater than the love of these others? He said to him, Yes, Lord; you are certain of my love for you. He said to him, Then give my lambs food.

16 Again, a second time, he said to him, Simon, son of John, have you any love for me? Yes, Lord, he said, you are certain of my love for you. Then take care of my sheep, said Jesus.

17 He said to him a third time, Simon, son of John, am I dear to you? Now Peter was troubled in his heart because he put the question a third time, Am I dear to you? And he said to him, Lord, you have knowledge of all things; you see that you are dear to me. Jesus said to him, Then give my sheep food.

15 Terminando a refeição, Jesus disse a Simão Pedro: Simão, filho de João, amas-me mais do que estes? Sim, respondeu Pedro, sabes que eu te amo.Jesus disse: Então alimenta os meus cordeiros.

16 Jesus repetiu a pergunta: Simão, filho de João, amas-me? Sim, Senhor, disse Pedro, sabes que eu te amo.Então pastoreia as minhas ovelhinhas.

17 Uma vez mais lhe perguntou: Simão, filho de João, amas-me? Pedro sentiu-se magoado por Jesus o ter questionado pela terceira vez: Senhor, tu conheces tudo e sabes que eu te amo.Jesus insistiu: Toma conta das minhas ovelhinhas. Presta bem atenção: Quando eras novo, fazias o que te apetecia e ias para onde querias; mas, quando fores velho, estenderás as mãos e outros te guiarão e levarão para onde não queres ir.
