1 E aconteceu que, em um daqueles dias, enquanto ele ensinava o povo no templo, e pregava o evangelho, os principais sacerdotes e os escribas vieram a ele com os anciãos,
2 e falaram-lhe, dizendo: Dize-nos, com que autoridade fazes tu essas coisas? Ou quem é que te deu tal autoridade?
3 E, respondendo ele, disse-lhes: Eu também vos perguntarei uma coisa, respondam-me:
4 O batismo de João, era do céu ou dos homens?
5 E eles arrazoavam entre si, dizendo: Se nós dissermos: Do céu, ele nos dirá: Por que então não crestes?
6 Mas, e se nós dissermos: Dos homens, todo o povo nos apedrejará, porque eles estão convencidos que João era um profeta.
7 E eles responderam que não podiam dizer de onde era.
8 E Jesus lhes disse: Tampouco eu vos direi com que autoridade faço estas coisas.
9 Então, ele começou a falar ao povo esta parábola: Certo homem plantou uma vinha, e arrendou-a a uns lavradores, e foi para uma terra distante por muito tempo.
10 E, no devido tempo, enviou um servo aos lavradores, para que lhe dessem dos frutos da vinha; mas os lavradores, espancando-o, mandaram-no embora vazio.
11 E novamente ele enviou outro servo; e eles também o espancaram, e o insultaram e o mandaram embora vazio.
12 E ele enviou novamente um terceiro; e eles também feriram a este, e o expulsaram.
13 Então, disse o senhor da vinha: O que eu farei? Enviarei o meu filho amado; talvez, vendo-o, o respeitem.
14 Mas, vendo-o os lavradores, eles arrazoaram entre si dizendo: Este é o herdeiro; vinde, matemo-lo, para que a herança seja nossa.
15 Assim, eles lançaram-no fora da vinha, e o mataram. O que lhes fará, pois, o senhor da vinha?
16 Ele virá e destruirá esses lavradores, e dará a vinha a outros. E, ouvindo eles isso, disseram: Deus o proíba!
17 E ele observando-os, disse: Então, o que é isto que está escrito: A pedra que os edificadores rejeitaram, essa se tornou a cabeça de esquina?
18 Qualquer que cair sobre aquela pedra será despedaçado, mas naquele em que ela cair, ela triturará ao pó.
19 E os principais sacerdotes e os escribas procuraram lançar mão dele naquela mesma hora, mas eles temiam o povo; pois perceberam que ele tinha falado a parábola contra eles.
20 E, eles vigiando-o, enviaram espiões, os quais se fingiam de homens justos, para o apanharem em alguma palavra, e o entregarem ao poder e à autoridade do governador.
21 E eles perguntaram-lhe, dizendo: Mestre, nós sabemos que tu falas e ensinas retamente, e que não fazes acepção de pessoas, mas ensinas o caminho de Deus verdadeiramente;
22 é lícito dar tributo a César ou não?
23 Mas, ele percebendo a sua astúcia, disse-lhes: Por que vós me tentais?
24 Mostrai-me uma moeda. De quem é a imagem e a inscrição? E, eles respondendo, disseram: De César.
25 E ele lhes disse: Dai, pois, a César as coisas que são de César, e a Deus as coisas que são de Deus.
26 E eles não puderam tomá-lo em suas palavras diante do povo; e eles maravilhados da sua resposta, calaram-se.
27 Então, chegaram-se a ele alguns dos saduceus, que negam haver ressurreição, e eles perguntaram-lhe,
28 dizendo: Mestre, Moisés nos escreveu que, se morresse o irmão de um homem, tendo esposa, e ele não deixasse filhos, seu irmão tomasse a esposa dele, e levantasse descendência a seu irmão.
29 Houve, pois, sete irmãos; e o primeiro tomou uma mulher, e morreu sem filhos.
30 E o segundo a tomou como esposa, e morreu sem filhos.
31 E o terceiro a tomou, e semelhantemente também os sete, e eles não tiveram filhos e morreram.
32 E depois de todos, a mulher também morreu.
33 Portanto, na ressurreição, de qual deles será a mulher? Pois os sete a tiveram por esposa.
34 E, Jesus respondendo, disse-lhes: Os filhos deste mundo casam-se, e dão-se em casamento;
35 mas os que são considerados dignos de alcançar o mundo vindouro, e a ressurreição dos mortos, não se casam, nem se dão em casamento;
36 nem podem mais morrer; porque são iguais aos anjos, e são filhos de Deus, sendo filhos da ressurreição.
37 Agora que os mortos hão de ressuscitar, até Moisés o mostrou no arbusto, quando ele chamou ao Senhor Deus de Abraão, e Deus de Isaque, e Deus de Jacó.
38 Porque ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos; porque todos vivem para ele.
39 Então, alguns dos escribas disseram, respondendo-lhe: Mestre, tu dissestes bem.
40 E depois disso, eles não ousaram perguntar-lhe questão nenhuma.
41 E ele lhes disse: Como eles dizem que Cristo é filho de Davi?
42 E o próprio Davi disse no livro dos Salmos: O SENHOR disse ao meu Senhor: Assenta-te à minha direita,
43 até que eu faça dos teus inimigos teu escabelo.
44 Portanto, se Davi mesmo lhe chama Senhor, como é ele seu filho?
45 Então, ouvindo-o todo o povo, ele disse aos seus discípulos:
46 Cuidado com os escribas, que querem andar com vestes compridas, e amam saudações nos mercados, e os principais assentos nas sinagogas, e os principais lugares nos banquetes;
47 que devoram as casas das viúvas, e, por aparência, fazem longas orações; estes receberão maior condenação.
1 And on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and proclaimed the gospel, it happened that the chief priests and the scribes along with the elders came on [Him].
2 And they spoke to Him, saying, Tell us, by what authority do you do these things? Or who is he who gave you this authority?
3 And He answered and said to them, I will also ask you one thing, and you answer me:
4 The baptism of John, was it from Heaven or from men?
5 And they reasoned within themselves, saying, If we shall say, From Heaven, he will say, Why then did you not believe him?
6 But if we say, From men, then all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
7 And they answered that they could not tell from where [it was].
8 And Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
9 And He began to speak to the people this parable: A certain man planted a vineyard and let it out to vinedressers. And [he] went into a far country for a long time.
10 And in season he sent a servant to the vinedressers, so that they should give him the fruit of the vineyard. But the vinedressers beat him and sent [him] away empty.
11 And again he sent another servant. And they also beat him and treated [him] shamefully, and sent [him] away empty.
12 And again he sent a third. And they also wounded him and cast [him] out.
13 And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that they will respect [him] when they see him.
14 But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir! Come, let us kill him so that the inheritance may be ours.
15 So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed [him]. What then shall the lord of the vineyard do to them?
16 He shall come and destroy these vinedressers and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard this, they said, Let it not be!
17 And He looked at them and said, What then is this which is written, The] Stone which the builders rejected, the same has become [the] Head of [the] corner?
18 Whoever shall fall on that Stone shall be broken, but on whomever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
19 And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him the same hour. And [they] feared the people, for they perceived that He had spoken this parable against them.
20 And they watched and sent forth spies, pretending themselves to be righteous men, so that they might seize upon a word of His, that they might deliver Him in this way to the power and authority of the governor.
21 And they asked Him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach rightly, and do not accept the person of anyone, but truly teach the way of God.
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar or not?
23 But He perceived their craftiness and said to them, Why do you tempt Me?
24 Show Me a coin. Whose image and inscription does it have? They answered and said, Caesar's.
25 And He said to them, Therefore render to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God the things which are God's.
26 And they could not take hold of His words before the people. And they marveled at His answer and were silent.
27 And certain of the Sadducees came, those speaking against a resurrection, [that it was] not to be. And they asked Him,
28 saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If anyone's brother dies, having a wife, and if he dies without children, his brother should take his wife and raise up seed to his brother.
29 Therefore there were seven brothers. And the first took a wife and died without children.
30 And the second took her as a wife, and he died childless.
31 And the third took her. And likewise the seven left no children and died.
32 Last of all the woman also died.
33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be? For the seven had her [as] a wife.
34 And answering, Jesus said to them, The sons of this world marry and are given in marriage,
35 but they who shall be counted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from [the] dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage.
36 Nor can they die [any] more, for they are equal to the angels, and are the sons of God, being the sons of the resurrection.
37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses pointed out at the Bush, when he called [the] Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
38 For He is not God of [the] dead, but of the living. For all live to Him.
39 And answering, certain of the scribes said, Teacher, you have spoken well.
40 And after that they did not dare ask Him anything.
41 And He said to them, How do they say that Christ is the Son of David?
42 Even David himself says in [the] Book of Psalms, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand
43 until I place Your enemies as Your footstool.
44 David then calls Him Lord; how then is He his son?
45 And as all the people were listening, He said to the disciples,
46 Beware of the scribes who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the first seats in the synagogues, and the chief places at the feasts;
47 who devour widows' houses, and make long prayers for a show; the same shall receive a more severe condemnation.
