Gálatas 6

1 Brethren, if even a man be taken in some fault, ye who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of meekness, considering thyself lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and thus fulfil the law of the Christ. 3 For if any man reputes himself to be something, being nothing, he deceives himself; 4 but let each prove his own work, and then he will have his boast in what belongs to himself alone, and not in what belongs to another. 5 For each shall bear his own burden. 6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate to him that teaches in all good things. 7 Be not deceived: God is not mocked; for whatever a man shall sow, that also shall he reap. 8 For he that sows to his own flesh, shall reap corruption from the flesh; but he that sows to the Spirit, from the Spirit shall reap eternal life: 9 but let us not lose heart in doing good; for in due time, if we do not faint, we shall reap. 10 So then, as we have occasion, let us do good towards all, and specially towards those of the household of faith.

11 See how long a letter I have written to you with my own hand. 12 As many as desire to have a fair appearance in the flesh, these compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not be persecuted because of the cross of Christ. 13 For neither do they that are circumcised themselves keep the law; but they wish you to be circumcised, that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But far be it from me to boast save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For in Christ Jesus neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision; but new creation. 16 And as many as shall walk by this rule, peace upon them and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. 17 For the rest let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the brands of the Lord Jesus. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.

1 Broeders en zusters, als iemand op een overtreding wordt betrapt, moeten jullie die de Geest hebben, hem op zachtmoedige wijze corrigeren en opletten dat je zelf niet ook in verleiding komt. 2 Help elkaar met het dragen van lasten; zo leef je de wet van Christus na. 3 Als iemand denkt dat hij belangrijk is terwijl dat niet het geval is, bedriegt hij zichzelf. 4 Laat iedereen zijn eigen gedrag evalueren, dan heeft hij iets waarop hij fier kan zijn zonder zich met een ander te vergelijken. 5 Iedereen moet zijn eigen last dragen.

6 Wie wordt onderricht in de christelijke leer en degene die dat onderricht geeft, moeten al het goede dat zij hebben met elkaar delen.

7 Vergis je niet, God laat zich niet voor de gek houden. Wat een mens zaait, zal hij ook oogsten. 8 Wie ‘zaait’ in zijn zondige natuur, oogst van die zondige natuur de ondergang, maar wie ‘zaait’ in de Geest, oogst van de Geest het eeuwig leven. 9 Laten we niet verslappen in het goeddoen, want als we niet opgeven zullen we uiteindelijk oogsten. 10 Laten we dus, telkens wanneer we daartoe de gelegenheid hebben, doen wat goed is voor alle mensen en vooral voor onze geloofsgenoten.

11 Kijk eens met welke grote letters ik eigenhandig aan jullie schrijf! 12 Zij die een goede indruk op de mensen willen maken, proberen jullie te dwingen je te laten besnijden, enkel om vervolging omwille van het kruis van Christus te vermijden. 13 Want zelfs zij die zich hebben laten besnijden, houden zich niet aan de Wet. Maar ze willen wel dat jullie worden besneden, zodat ze over jullie besnijdenis kunnen pochen. 14 Ik wil echter absoluut niet pochen, tenzij over het kruis van onze Heer Jezus Christus, waardoor ik met de wereld heb afgerekend, en de wereld met mij. 15 Het is niet van belang of je besneden of onbesneden bent; wat telt is of je een nieuwe creatie bent. 16 Aan wie zich aan deze regel houdt – en aan allen die bij Gods volk horen – wens ik zijn vrede en mededogen toe. 17 Laat niemand mij verder lastigvallen, want ik draag de littekens van Jezus in mijn lichaam. 18 Broeders en zusters, ik wens jullie de genade van onze Heer Jezus Christus toe. Amen.
