1 I det år da Tartan kom til Asdod, da assyrerkongen Sargon sendte ham dit, og han stred imot Asdod og inntok byen -2 på den tid talte Herren ved Esaias, Amos' sønn, og sa: Du skal løse hårkjortelen* av dine lender og dra skoen av din fot! Og han gjorde så og gikk naken** og barfotet. / {* 2KG 1, 8. SKR 13, 4. MTT 3, 4.} / {** 1SA 19, 24.}3 Da sa Herren: Likesom min tjener Esaias har gått naken og barfotet og nu i tre år har vært et tegn og varsel om Egypten og Etiopia,4 således skal kongen i Assyria føre bort fangene fra Egypten og de landflyktige fra Etiopia, de unge og de gamle, nakne og barfotede og med bar bak, til vanære for Egypten.5 Da skal de forferdes og ha skam av Etiopia, som de satte sitt håp til, og av Egypten, som de var stolte av.6 På den tid skal de som bor her i kystlandet*, si: Se, således er det gått dem vi satte vårt håp til, dem som vi tydde til efter hjelp, for å fries fra kongen i Assyria. 1 In the year of the coming in of Tartan to Ashdod, when Sargon king of Asshur sendeth him, and he fighteth against Ashdod, and captureth it,2 at that time spake Jehovah by the hand of Isaiah son of Amoz, saying, `Go, and thou hast loosed the sackcloth from off thy loins, and thy sandal thou dost draw from off thy foot,` and he doth so, going naked and barefoot.3 And Jehovah saith, `As My servant Isaiah hath gone naked and barefoot three years, a sign and a wonder for Egypt and for Cush,4 so doth the king of Asshur lead the captivity of Egypt, and the removal of Cush, young and old, naked and barefoot, with seat uncovered -- the nakedness of Egypt;5 and they have been affrighted and ashamed of Cush their confidence, and of Egypt their beauty,6 and the inhabitant of this isle hath said in that day -- Lo, thus [is] our trust, Whither we have fled for help, To be delivered from the king of Asshur, And how do we escape -- we?`
