1 And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul: 2 and he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer, even mine; 3 The God of my rock, in him will I trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge; my saviour, thou savest me from violence. 4 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. 5 For the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. 6 The cords of Sheol were round about me: the snares of death came upon me. 7 In my distress I called upon the LORD, yea, I called unto my God: and he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came into his ears. 8 Then the earth shook and trembled, the foundations of heaven moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. 9 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. 10 He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and thick darkness was under his feet. 11 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he was seen upon the wings of the wind. 12 And he made darkness pavilions round about him, gathering of waters, thick clouds of the skies. 13 At the brightness before him coals of fire were kindled. 14 The LORD thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered his voice. 15 And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them. 16 Then the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were laid bare, by the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. 17 He sent from on high, he took me; he drew me out of many waters; 18 He delivered me from my strong enemy, from them that hated me; for they were too mighty for me. 19 They came upon me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay. 20 He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me. 21 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. 22 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. 23 For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them. 24 I was also perfect toward him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity. 25 Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eyesight. 26 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, with the perfect man thou wilt shew thyself perfect; 27 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the perverse thou wilt shew thyself froward. 28 And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down. 29 For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness. 30 For by thee I run upon a troop: by my God do I leap over a wall. 31 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried; he is a shield unto all them that trust in him. 32 For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God? 33 God is my strong fortress: and he guideth the perfect in his way. 34 He maketh his feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places. 35 He teacheth my hands to war; so that mine arms do bend a bow of brass. 36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great. 37 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped. 38 I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; neither did I turn again till they were consumed. 39 And I have consumed them, and smitten them through, that they cannot arise; yea, they are fallen under my feet. 40 For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. 41 Thou hast also made mine enemies turn their backs unto me, that I might cut off them that hate me. 42 They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not. 43 Then did I beat them small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the streets, and did spread them abroad. 44 Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people; thou hast kept me to be the head of the nations: a people whom I have not known shall serve me. 45 The strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me. 46 The strangers shall fade away, and shall come trembling out of their close places. 47 The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation: 48 Even the God that executeth vengeance for me, and bringeth down peoples under me, 49 And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above them that rise up against me: thou deliverest me from the violent man. 50 Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the nations, and will sing praises unto thy name. 51 Great deliverance giveth he to his king: and sheweth lovingkindness to his anointed, to David and to his seed, for evermore.

1 Davi falou ao Senhor as palavras deste cântico, no dia em que o Senhor o livrou das mãos de todos os seus inimigos e das mãos de Saul. 2 Ele disse:

O Senhor é a minha rocha,

a minha fortaleza,

o meu libertador;

3 o meu Deus, o meu rochedo

em que me refugio;

o meu escudo, a força

da minha salvação,

o meu alto refúgio.

Ó Deus, tu me salvas da violência.

4 Invoco o Senhor,

digno de ser louvado,

e serei salvo dos meus inimigos.

5 Porque ondas de morte

me cercaram,

torrentes de perdição

me impuseram terror.

6 Cadeias infernais

me envolveram,

e tramas de morte

me surpreenderam.

7 Na minha angústia,

invoquei o Senhor;

gritei por socorro ao meu Deus.

Do seu templo ele ouviu

a minha voz,

e o meu clamor

chegou aos seus ouvidos.

8 Então a terra se abalou e tremeu;

vacilaram também

os fundamentos dos céus

e se abalaram,

porque ele estava irado.

9 Das suas narinas subiu fumaça,

e fogo devorador

saiu da sua boca;

dele saíram brasas ardentes.

10 Ele baixou os céus e desceu,

e teve sob os pés densa escuridão.

11 Cavalgava um querubim e voou;

foi levado sobre as asas do vento.

12 Por abrigo

pôs ao redor de si trevas,

ajuntamento de águas,

nuvens dos céus.

13 Do resplendor

que diante dele havia,

brasas de fogo se acenderam.

14 O Senhor trovejou

desde os céus;

o Altíssimo levantou a sua voz.

15 Atirou as suas flechas

e espalhou os meus inimigos;

multiplicou os seus raios

e os dispersou.

16 Então se viu o leito do mar,

e se descobriram os fundamentos

do mundo,

pela repreensão do Senhor,

pelo sopro irado das suas narinas.

17 Do alto o Senhor me estendeu

a mão e me segurou;

ele me tirou das águas profundas.

18 Livrou-me de forte inimigo

e dos que me odiavam,

pois eram mais poderosos

do que eu.

19 Eles me atacaram

no dia da minha calamidade,

mas o Senhor me serviu

de amparo.

20 Trouxe-me para um lugar

espaçoso;

livrou-me, porque ele se agradou

de mim.

21 O Senhor me retribuiu

segundo a minha justiça;

recompensou-me conforme

a pureza das minhas mãos.

22 Pois tenho guardado

os caminhos do Senhor

e não me afastei perversamente

do meu Deus.

23 Porque todos os seus juízos

estão diante de mim,

e não rejeitei os seus preceitos.

24 Também fui íntegro para com ele

e me guardei da iniquidade.

25 Por isso, o Senhor me retribuiu

segundo a minha justiça,

conforme a minha pureza,

na sua presença.

26 Para com quem é fiel,

fiel te mostras;

com o íntegro, também íntegro.

27 Com o puro, puro te mostras;

com o perverso, inflexível.

28 Tu salvas o povo humilde,

mas, com um lance de vista,

abates os orgulhosos.

29 Tu, Senhor,

és a minha lâmpada;

o Senhor derrama luz

nas minhas trevas.

30 Pois contigo posso

atacar exércitos,

com o meu Deus salto muralhas.

31 O caminho de Deus é perfeito;

a palavra do Senhor é confiável;

ele é escudo para todos os que

nele se refugiam.

32 Pois quem é Deus

além do Senhor?

E quem é rochedo,

a não ser o nosso Deus?

33 Deus é a minha fortaleza

e a minha força

e ele aperfeiçoa o meu caminho.

34 Ele deu aos meus pés

a ligeireza das corças

e me firmou nas minhas alturas.

35 Ele treinou as minhas mãos

para o combate,

tanto que os meus braços

vergaram um arco de bronze.

36 Também me deste

o escudo da tua salvação,

e a tua clemência me engrandeceu.

37 Alargaste o caminho

sob meus passos,

e os meus pés não vacilaram.

38 Persegui os meus inimigos

e os derrotei,

e só voltei depois de ter acabado

com eles.

39 Acabei com eles, esmagando-os

a tal ponto, que não puderam

se levantar;

caíram sob os meus pés.

40 Pois me cingiste

de força para o combate

e me submeteste os que

se levantaram contra mim.

41 Também puseste em fuga

os meus inimigos,

e os que me odiavam,

eu os exterminei.

42 Olharam, mas não houve

quem os salvasse;

olharam para o Senhor,

mas ele não respondeu.

43 Então os moí

como o pó da terra;

esmaguei-os e, como a lama

das ruas, os amassei.

44 Dos conflitos do meu povo

me livraste

e me fizeste cabeça das nações;

um povo que eu não conhecia

me serviu.

45 Os estrangeiros se mostram

submissos a mim;

bastou-lhes ouvir a minha voz,

logo me obedeceram.

46 Os estrangeiros fraquejaram

e, tremendo, saíram

das suas fortalezas.

47 O Senhor vive!

Bendita seja a minha rocha!

Exaltado seja o meu Deus,

a rocha da minha salvação!

48 O Deus que por mim tomou

vingança

e me submeteu povos;

49 o Deus que me tirou

do meio dos meus inimigos;

sim, tu que me exaltaste

acima dos meus adversários

e me livraste

dos homens violentos.

50 Por isso, eu te glorificarei

entre os gentios, ó Senhor,

e cantarei louvores ao teu nome.

51 É ele quem dá grandes vitórias

ao seu rei

e usa de misericórdia

para com o seu ungido,

com Davi e sua posteridade,

para sempre.
