1 And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake? 2 And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba, and they called him unto David; and the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he. 3 And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet. 4 And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar. 5 Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar. 6 And Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came unto David, and fell on his face, and did obeisance. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant! 7 And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually. 8 And he did obeisance, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am? 9 Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, All that pertained to Saul and to all his house have I given unto thy master’s son. 10 And thou shalt till the land for him, thou, and thy sons, and thy servants; and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have bread to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11 Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king commandeth his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the kings sons. 12 And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Mica. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth. 13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and he was lame on both his feet.

1 Um dia Davi perguntou:

— Será que resta ainda alguém da família de Saul, para que eu use de bondade para com ele, por causa de Jônatas?

2 Havia um servo na casa de Saul cujo nome era Ziba. Chamaram-no, pedindo que viesse falar com Davi. O rei perguntou:

— Você é Ziba?

Ele respondeu:

— Sou eu mesmo, seu servo.

3 Então Davi perguntou:

— Existe mais alguém da família de Saul para que eu use da bondade de Deus para com ele?

Ziba respondeu:

— Ainda existe um filho de Jônatas, aleijado de ambos os pés.

Então o rei perguntou:

4 — E onde está ele?

Ziba respondeu:

— Ele está na casa de Maquir, filho de Amiel, em Lo-Debar.

5 Então o rei Davi mandou trazê-lo de Lo-Debar, da casa de Maquir, filho de Amiel.

6 Quando Mefibosete, filho de Jônatas, filho de Saul, chegou diante de Davi, inclinou-se, prostrando-se com o rosto em terra. Davi disse:

— Mefibosete!

Ele respondeu:

— Aqui estou. Às suas ordens!

7 Então Davi lhe disse:

— Não tenha medo, porque serei bondoso com você por causa de Jônatas, seu pai. Vou restituir a você todas as terras de Saul, seu pai, e você sentará sempre à minha mesa para comer.

8 Então Mefibosete se inclinou e disse:

— Quem é este seu servo, para que o meu senhor tenha olhado para um cão morto como eu?

9 Então Davi chamou Ziba, servo de Saul, e lhe disse:

— Tudo o que pertencia a Saul e a toda a casa dele eu dei ao neto de seu senhor. 10 Você, os seus filhos e os seus servos cultivarão a terra para ele e recolherão os frutos, para que a casa de seu senhor tenha o que comer. Porém Mefibosete, neto de seu senhor, sentará sempre à minha mesa para comer.

Ziba tinha quinze filhos e vinte servos. 11 Ziba disse ao rei:

— Farei tudo o que o rei, meu senhor, ordena a este seu servo.

E assim Mefibosete passou a fazer as refeições à mesa de Davi, como um dos filhos do rei. 12 Mefibosete tinha um filho pequeno chamado Mica. Todos os que moravam na casa de Ziba eram servos de Mefibosete. 13 Mefibosete morava em Jerusalém, porque fazia as refeições sempre à mesa do rei. Ele era coxo de ambos os pés.
