Punishment Coming for Israel and Judah
1 ch. 4:1;Joel 1:2;Amos 3:1;Mic. 1:2Hear this, O priests!
Pay attention, O house of Israel!
Give ear, O house of the king!
For the judgment is for you;
for [ch. 6:9;9:8] you have been a snare at Mizpah
and a net spread upon Judg. 4:6Tabor.
2 And [ch. 9:15] the revolters [ch. 9:9;Isa. 29:15] have gone deep into slaughter,
but [Ps. 50:21]I will discipline all of them.
3 [Amos 3:2;5:12]I know Ephraim,
and Israel is not hidden from me;
for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore;
Israel is defiled.
4 [Isa. 59:2] Their deeds do not permit them
to return to their God.
For ch. 4:12the spirit of whoredom is within them,
and they know not the Lord.
5 ch. 7:10The pride of Israel testifies to his face;5:5 Or in his presence
Israel and See ch. 6:4Ephraim shall stumble in his guilt;
See ch. 6:4Judah also shall stumble with them.
6 ch. 6:6;Isa. 1:11With their flocks and herds they shall go
to seek the Lord,
ch. 6:6;Isa. 1:11but they will not find him;
ch. 9:12he has withdrawn from them.
7 ch. 6:7They have dealt faithlessly with the Lord;
for they have borne alien children.
Now the new moon shall devour them with their fields.
8 ch. 8:1;Jer. 4:5Blow the horn in ch. 9:9;10:9Gibeah,
the trumpet in Josh. 18:25Ramah.
Sound the alarm at See ch. 4:15Beth-aven;
we follow you,5:8 Or after you O Benjamin!
9 Ephraim shall become a desolation
in the day of punishment;
among the tribes of Israel
I make known what is sure.
10 The princes of Judah have become
like Deut. 19:14those who move the landmark;
upon them I will pour out
my wrath like water.
11 Ephraim is Deut. 28:33;Amos 4:1oppressed, crushed in judgment,
because he was determined to go after filth.5:11 Or to follow human precepts
12 But I am [Job 13:28]like a moth to Ephraim,
and [Job 13:28]like dry rot to the house of Judah.
13 When Ephraim saw his sickness,
and Judah [Isa. 1:5,6] his wound,
then Ephraim went ch. 7:11;8:9;12:1;2 Kgs. 15:19to Assyria,
and sent to the great king.5:13 Or to King Jareb
ch. 14:3But he is not able to cure you
or heal [Isa. 1:5,6] your wound.
14 For I will be ch. 13:7like a lion to See ch. 6:4Ephraim,
and like a young lion to the house of See ch. 6:4Judah.
[Mic. 5:8]I, even I, will tear and go away;
I will carry off, and no one shall rescue.
15 [Jer. 29:10-12;Ezek. 6:9]; See Lev. 26:40-42I will return again to my place,
until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face,
and Isa. 26:16in their distress earnestly seek me.
