Israel Will Reap the Whirlwind
1 Set ch. 5:8the trumpet to your lips!
One See Deut. 28:49like a vulture is over the house of the Lord,
because ch. 6:7they have transgressed my covenant
and rebelled against my law.
2 To me they cry,
See Matt. 7:21-23"My God, we—Israel—know you."
3 Israel has spurned the good;
the enemy shall pursue him.
4 ch. 7:7;1 Kgs. 12:20They made kings, [2 Chr. 13:5]but not through me.
They set up princes, but I knew it not.
With their silver and gold they made idols
for their own destruction.
5 ch. 10:5,6;[1 Kgs. 12:28] I have8:5 Hebrew He has spurned your calf, O Samaria.
My anger burns against them.
[Jer. 13:27]How long will they be incapable of innocence?
6 For it is from Israel;
a craftsman made it;
it is not God.
[See ver. 5above] The calf of Samaria
[Mic. 1:6,7]shall be broken to pieces.8:6 Or shall go up in flames
7 For [ch. 10:12,13] they sow the wind,
and they shall reap the whirlwind.
The standing grain has no heads;
it shall yield no flour;
if it were to yield,
[ch. 7:9]strangers would devour it.
8 2 Kgs. 17:6Israel is swallowed up;
already they are among the nations
as Jer. 22:28a useless vessel.
9 For See ch. 5:13they have gone up to Assyria,
[Jer. 2:24]a wild donkey wandering alone;
Ephraim has hired lovers.
10 Though they hire allies among the nations,
I will soon gather them up.
And See Ezek. 26:7the king and princes [ch. 4:7,10]shall soon writhe
because of the tribute.
11 Because Ephraim ch. 10:1;12:11has multiplied altars for sinning,
they have become to him altars for sinning.
12 [Deut. 4:6,8]Were I to write for him my laws by the ten thousands,
they would be regarded as a strange thing.
13 As for my sacrificial offerings,
Jer. 7:21;[Amos 4:4] they sacrifice meat and eat it,
but the Lord does not accept them.
ch. 9:9;Amos 8:7Now he will remember their iniquity
and punish their sins;
ch. 9:3;Deut. 28:68;[ch. 11:5]they shall return to Egypt.
14 For See ch. 6:4Israel has forgotten Isa. 17:7his Maker
and [Amos 5:11] built palaces,
and See ch. 6:4Judah has multiplied fortified cities;
so Amos 2:5I will send a fire upon his cities,
and it shall devour her strongholds.
