1 The worde that came to Ieremiah concerning all the Iewes, which dwell in the lande of Egypt, and remained at Migdol and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the coutry of Pathros, saying, 2 Thus sayeth the Lord of hostes the God of Israel, Yee haue seene all the euill that I haue brought vpon Ierusalem, and vpon all the cities of Iudah: and beholde, this day they are desolate, and no man dwelleth therein, 3 Because of their wickednes which they haue comitted, to prouoke me to anger in that they went to burne incense, and to serue other gods, who they knew not, neither they nor you nor your fathers. 4 Howbeit I sent vnto you all my seruats the Prophets rising earely, and sending them, saying, Oh doe not this abominable thing that I hate. 5 But they would not heare nor incline their eare to turne from their wickednes, and to burne no more incense vnto other gods. 6 Wherefore my wrath, and mine anger was powred foorth and was kindled in the cities of Iudah, and in the streetes of Ierusalem, and they are desolate, and wasted, as appeareth this day. 7 Therefore now thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel, Wherfore commit ye this great euill against your soules, to cut off from you man and woman, childe and suckling out of Iudah, and leaue you none to remaine? 8 In that yee prouoke mee vnto wrath with the woorkes of your hands, burning incense vnto other Gods in the lande of Egypt whither yee be gone to dwell: that yee might bring destruction vnto your selues, and that ye might be a curse and a reproch among all nations of the earth. 9 Haue yee forgotten the wickednes of your fathers, and the wickednesse of the Kings of Iudah and the wickednesse of their wiues and your owne wickednes and the wickednes of your wiues, which they haue committed in the land of Iudah and in the streetes of Ierusalem? 10 They are not humbled vnto this day, neither haue they feared nor walked in my lawe nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers. 11 Therefore thus sayeth the Lord of hostes the God of Israel, Beholde, I will set my face against you to euill and to destroy all Iudah, 12 And I will take the remnant of Iudah, that haue set their faces to goe into the lande of Egypt there to dwell, and they shall all bee consumed and fall in the lande of Egypt: they shall euen bee consumed by the sworde and by the famine: they shall die from the least vnto the most, by the sworde, and by the famine, and they shall be a detestation and an astonishment and a curse and a reproche. 13 For I will visite them that dwel in the land of Egypt, as I haue visited Ierusalem, by ye sworde, by the famine, and by the pestilence, 14 So that none of the remnant of Iudah, which are gone into the lande of Egypt to dwell there, shall escape or remaine, that they shoulde returne into the land of Iudah to the which they haue a desire to returne to dwell there: for none shall returne, but such as shall escape. 15 Then all the men which knewe that their wiues had burnt incense vnto other gods and all the women that stoode by, a great multitude, euen all the people that dwelt in the lande of Egypt in Pathros, answered Ieremiah, saying, 16 The worde that thou hast spoken vnto vs in the Name of the Lord, wee will not heare it of thee, 17 But wee will doe whatsoeuer thing goeth out of our owne mouth, as to burne incense vnto the Queene of heauen, and to powre out drinke offerings vnto her, as we haue done, both we and our fathers, our Kings and our princes in the cities of Iudah, and in the streetes of Ierusalem: for then had wee plentie of vitailes and were well and felt none euill. 18 But since wee left off to burne incense to the Queene of heauen, and to powre out drinke offerings vnto her, we haue had scarcenesse of all things, and haue beene consumed by the sworde and by the famine. 19 And when we burnt incense to ye Queene of heauen, and powred out drinke offerings vnto her, did wee make her cakes to make her glad, and powre out drinke offerings vnto her without our husbands? 20 Then said Ieremiah vnto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had giuen him that answere, saying, 21 Did not the Lord remember the incense, that yee burnt in the cities of Iudah, and in the streetes of Ierusalem, both you, and your fathers, your Kinges, and your princes, and the people of the land, and hath he not considered it? 22 So that the Lord could no longer forbeare, because of the wickednes of your inuentions, and because of the abominations, which ye haue committed: therefore is your lande desolate and an astonishment, and a curse and without inhabitant, as appeareth this day. 23 Because ye haue burnt incense and because ye haue sinned against the Lord, and haue not obeyed the voyce of the Lord, nor walked in his Lawe, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies, therefore this plague is come vpon you, as appeareth this day. 24 Moreouer Ieremiah saide vnto all the people and to all the women, Heare the word of the Lord, all Iudah that are in the land of Egypt. 25 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Ye and your wiues haue both spoken with your mouthes, and fulfilled with your hande, saying, We will performe our vowes that we haue vowed to burne incense to the Queene of heauen, and to powre out drinke offerings to her: yee will perfourme your vowes and doe the things that yee haue vowed. 26 Therefore heare the word of the Lord, all Iudah that dwel in the land of Egypt. Beholde, I haue sworne by my great Name, sayeth the Lord, that my Name shall no more be called vpon by the mouth of any man of Iudah, in all the lande of Egypt, saying, The Lord God liueth. 27 Behold, I wil watch ouer them for euil and not for good, and all men of Iudah that are in the land of Egypt, shalbe consumed by the sword, and by the famine, vntill they be vtterly destroied. 28 Yet a small nomber that escape the sworde, shall returne out of the lande of Egypt into the lande of Iudah: and all the remnant of Iudah that are gone into the lande of Egypt to dwell there, shall know whose words shall stad, mine or theirs. 29 And this shall be a signe vnto you, saith the Lord, whe I visit you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for euill. 30 Thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, I will giue Pharaoh Hophra King of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seeke his life: as I gaue Zedekiah King of Iudah into the hand of Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel his enemie, who also sought his life.

1 Eis a palavra que veio a Jeremias acerca de todos os judeus que moravam na terra do Egito, em Migdol, e em Tafnes, e em Mênfis, e no país de Patros.

2 Assim diz Jeová dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Vós tendes visto todo este mal que fiz vir sobre Jerusalém, e sobre todas as cidades de Judá; eis que hoje são elas uma desolação, e ninguém nelas habita,

3 por causa da sua maldade que, para me provocarem à ira, praticaram, indo a queimar incenso e a servir outros deuses, a quem não conheceram, nem eles, nem vós, nem vossos pais.

4 Todavia vos enviei todos os meus servos, os profetas, levantando-me cedo e enviando-os, a dizer: Ah, não façais esta coisa abominável que aborreço!

5 Porém não ouviram, nem inclinaram os seus ouvidos para abandonarem a sua maldade, e não mais queimarem incenso a outros deuses.

6 Pelo que o meu furor e a minha ira, derramando-se, incendiaram as cidades de Judá e as ruas de Jerusalém, que se tornaram ermas e desoladas, como hoje se vê.

7 Agora assim diz Jeová, Deus dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Por que fazeis vós contra vossas almas este grande mal, fazendo que do meio de Judá seja exterminado dentre vós o homem e a mulher, a criança e o que mama, e que não vos fique resto algum? por que fazeis este grande mal,

8 provocando-me à ira com as obras das vossas mãos, queimando incenso a outros deuses na terra do Egito, aonde fostes a peregrinar, para que sejais exterminados, e vos torneis objeto de maldição e de opróbrio entre todas as nações da terra?

9 Acaso estais esquecidos das maldades de vossos pais, e das maldades dos reis de Judá, das maldades de suas mulheres, e das vossas maldades e das maldades de vossas mulheres, que praticaram na terra de Judá, e nas ruas de Jerusalém?

10 Até o dia de hoje não se humilharam nem tiveram temor, nem andaram na minha lei e nos meus estatutos, que pus diante de vós e diante de vossos pais.

11 Portanto assim diz Jeová dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Eis que porei o meu rosto contra vós para mal e para exterminar a todo Judá.

12 Tomarei os que restam de Judá, os quais resolveram entrar na terra do Egito para ali peregrinarem, e todos eles serão consumidos; na terra do Egito cairão; à espada e de fome serão consumidos: desde o menor até o maior morrerão à espada e de fome; e tornar-se-ão objeto de execração, e de espanto, e de maldição e de opróbrio.

13 Castigarei os que moram na terra do Egito, como castiguei a Jerusalém, à espada, de fome e de peste.

14 Dos que restam de Judá, os quais são vindos para peregrinarem na terra do Egito não haverá quem escape nem sobreviva, para tornar à terra de Judá, a qual eles desejam voltar a fim de ali morarem: não voltarão senão os que escaparem.

15 Responderam a Jeremias todos os homens que sabiam que suas mulheres queimavam incenso a outros deuses, e todas as mulheres que estavam presentes, uma grande assembléia, a saber, todo o povo que morava na terra do Egito, em Patros:

16 Quanto à palavra que nos disseste em nome de Jeová, nós não te escutaremos.

17 Mas certamente cumpriremos toda a palavra que saiu da nossa boca, de queimarmos incenso à rainha do céu e de lhe derramarmos libações, como temos feito, nós e nossos pais, os nossos reis e os nossos príncipes, nas cidades de Judá e nas ruas de Jerusalém; então tínhamos fartura de pão, e nos ia bem, e não vimos mal algum.

18 Mas desde que cessamos de queimar incenso à rainha do céu e de lhe derramar libações, temos tido falta de tudo e temos sido consumidos pela espada e pela fome.

19 Quando queimávamos incenso à rainha do céu, e lhe derramávamos libações, acaso era sem o conhecimento de nossos maridos que nós lhe fazíamos tortas para a retratar, e lhe derramávamos libações?

20 Disse Jeremias a todo o povo, aos homens e às mulheres e a todo o povo, que lhe haviam dado esta resposta:

21 Quanto ao incenso que queimastes nas cidades de Judá e nas ruas de Jerusalém, vós e vossos pais, os vossos reis e os vossos príncipes, e o povo da terra, acaso não se lembrou disso Jeová, nem lhe veio isso à mente?

22 Jeová não o podia suportar mais, por causa da maldade dos vossos feitos e por causa das abominações que havíeis praticado; assim a vossa terra se tornou em desolação, e em objeto de espanto e de opróbrio, e desabitada, como hoje se vê.

23 Porque tendes queimado incenso, e porque tendes pecado contra Jeová, e não tendes obedecido a voz de Jeová, nem andado na sua lei e nos seus estatutos, e nos seus testemunhos; por isso vos sobreveio este mal, como hoje se vê.

24 Também Jeremias disse a todo o povo e a todas as mulheres: Ouvi a palavra de Jeová, todos os de Judá que estais na terra do Egito:

25 Assim diz Jeová dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Vós e vossas mulheres falastes por vossa boca, e com as vossas mãos o cumpristes, dizendo: Certamente cumpriremos os nossos votos que temos feito, de queimarmos incenso à rainha do céu, e de lhe derramarmos libações; confirmai, pois, os vossos votos, e cumpri-os.

26 Portanto ouvi a palavra de Jeová, todos os de Judá que habitais na terra do Egito: Eis que por meu grande nome vos jurei, diz Jeová, que o meu nome não será pronunciado mais por boca de nenhum homem de Judá em toda a terra do Egito, dizendo-se: Pela vida de Jeová.

27 Eis que vigiarei sobre eles para mal, e não para bem; e todos os homens de Judá que estão na terra do Egito, serão consumidos pela espada e pela fome, até que de todo se acabem.

28 Os que escaparem da espada, voltarão da terra do Egito para a terra de Judá, poucos em número; e todos os que restam de Judá, que são vindos à terra do Egito para ali peregrinarem, saberão que palavra subsistirá, se a minha ou a deles.

29 Isto vos servirá de sinal, diz Jeová, de que vos castigarei neste lugar, para que saibas que certamente subsistirão as minhas palavras contra vós para mal.

30 Assim diz Jeová: Eis que entregarei Faraó-Hofra, rei do Egito, nas mãos dos seus inimigos, e nas mãos dos que procuram tirar-lhe a vida; assim como entreguei Zedequias, rei de Judá, nas mãos de Nabucodonozor, rei de Babilônia, que era seu inimigo e procurava tirar-lhe a vida.
