1 Il arriva aussi en la douzième année, le premier jour du douzième mois, que la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée], en disant :

2 Fils d'homme, prononce à haute voix une complainte sur Pharaon Roi d'Egypte, et lui dis : tu as été entre les nations semblable à un lionceau, et tel qu'un grand poisson dans les mers; tu t'élançais dans tes fleuves, et tu troublais les eaux avec tes pieds, et remplissais de bourbe leurs fleuves.

3 Ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel : j'étendrai mon rets sur toi par un amas de plusieurs peuples, qui te tireront étant dans mes filets.

4 Et je te laisserai à l'abandon sur la terre; je te jetterai sur le dessus des champs, et je ferai demeurer sur toi tous les oiseaux des cieux, et rassasierai de toi les bêtes de toute la terre.

5 Car je mettrai ta chair sur les montagnes, et je remplirai tes vallées des débris de tes hauteurs.

6 Et j'arroserai de ton sang jusques aux montagnes, la terre où tu nages, et les lits des eaux seront remplis de toi.

7 Et quand je t'aurai éteint, je couvrirai les cieux, et ferai obscurcir leurs étoiles, je couvrirai le soleil de nuages, et la lune ne donnera plus sa lumière.

8 Je ferai obscurcir sur toi tous les luminaires qui donnent la lumière dans les cieux, et je répandrai les ténèbres sur ton pays, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.

9 Et je ferai que le cœur de plusieurs peuples frémira, quand j'aurai fait venir [la nouvelle de] ta plaie parmi les nations, en des pays que tu n'as point connus.

10 Et je remplirai d'étonnement plusieurs peuples à cause de toi, et leurs Rois seront tout épouvantés à cause de toi, quand je ferai luire mon épée à leurs yeux; et ils seront effrayés de moment en moment, chacun dans soi-même, au jour de ta ruine.

11 Car ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel : l'épée du Roi de Babylone viendra sur toi.

12 J'abattrai ta multitude par les épées des hommes forts, qui tous sont les plus terribles d'entre les nations ; et ils détruiront l'orgueil de l'Egypte, et toute la multitude de son peuple sera ruinée.

13 Et je ferai périr tout son bétail d'auprès des grosses eaux, et aucun pied d'homme ne les troublera plus, ni aucun pied de bête ne les agitera plus.

14 Alors je rendrai profondes leurs eaux, et je ferai couler leurs fleuves comme de l'huile, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.

15 Quand j'aurai réduit le pays d'Egypte en désolation, et que le pays aura été dénué des choses dont il était rempli; quand j'aurai frappé tous ceux qui y habitent, ils sauront alors que je suis l'Eternel.

16 C'est ici la complainte qu'on fera sur elle, les filles des nations feront cette complainte sur elle; elles feront, dis-je, cette complainte sur l'Egypte, et sur toute la multitude de son peuple, dit le Seigneur.

17 Il arriva aussi en la douzième année, le quinzième jour du mois, que la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée], en disant :

18 Fils d'homme, dresse une lamentation sur la multitude d'Egypte, et fais-la descendre, elle et les filles des nations magnifiques, aux plus bas lieux de la terre, avec ceux qui descendent en la fosse.

19 Par dessus qui [m']aurais-tu été agréable? descends, et sois gisante avec les incirconcis.

20 Ils tomberont au milieu de ceux qui auront été tués par l'épée; l'épée a [déjà] été donnée; traînez-la avec toute la multitude de son peuple.

21 Les plus forts d'entre les puissants lui parleront du milieu du sépulcre, avec ceux qui lui donnaient du secours, et diront : ils sont descendus, ils sont gisants, les incirconcis tués par l'épée.

22 Là est l'Assyrien, et toute son assemblée; ses sépulcres sont autour de lui, eux tous, mis à mort, sont tombés par l'épée.

23 Car ses sépulcres ont été posés au fond de la fosse, et son assemblée autour de sa sépulture; eux tous qui avaient répandu leur terreur sur la terre des vivants, sont tombés morts par l'épée.

24 Là est Hélam, et toute sa multitude autour de son sépulcre; eux tous sont tombés morts par l'épée, ils sont descendus incirconcis dans les plus bas lieux de la terre, et après avoir répandu leur terreur sur la terre des vivants, ils ont porté leur ignominie avec ceux qui descendent dans la fosse.

25 On a mis sa couche parmi ceux qui ont été tués, avec toute sa multitude; ses sépulcres sont autour de lui; eux tous incirconcis tués par l'épée, quoiqu'ils aient répandu leur terreur sur la terre des vivants, toutefois ils ont porté leur ignominie avec ceux qui descendent en la fosse; il a été mis parmi ceux qui ont été tués.

26 Là est Mesec, Tubal, et toute la multitude de leurs gens; leurs sépulcres [sont] autour d'eux; eux tous incirconcis, tués par l'épée, quoiqu'ils aient répandu leur terreur sur la terre des vivants.

27 Ils n'ont pourtant point été gisants avec les hommes vaillants qui sont tombés d'entre les incirconcis, lesquels sont descendus au sépulcre avec leurs instruments de guerre, dont on a mis les épées sous leurs têtes, et dont les iniquités ont reposé sur leurs os; parce que la terreur des hommes forts est en la terre des vivants.

28 Toi aussi tu seras froissé au milieu des incirconcis, et tu seras gisant avec ceux qui ont été tués par l'épée.

29 Là est Edom, ses Rois, et tous ses Princes, qui ont été mis avec leur force parmi ceux qui ont été tués par l'épée; ils seront gisants avec les incirconcis, et avec ceux qui sont descendus dans la fosse.

30 Là sont tous les Princes de l'Aquilon, et tous les Sidoniens, qui sont descendus avec ceux qui ont été tués, à cause de leur terreur, étant honteux de leur force; et ils sont gisants incirconcis avec ceux qui ont été tués par l'épée, et ils ont porté leur ignominie avec ceux qui sont descendus dans la fosse.

31 Pharaon les verra, et il sera consolé de toute la multitude de son peuple; Pharaon, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel a vu les blessés par l'épée et toute son armée.

32 Car j'ai mis ma terreur en la terre des vivants, c'est pourquoi Pharaon avec toute la multitude de son peuple sera gisant au milieu des incirconcis, avec ceux qui ont été tués par l'épée, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.

1 And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, You are like a young lion of the nations, and you are as a monster in the seas: and you came forth with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.

3 Thus says the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread out my net over you with a company of many people; and they shall bring you up in my net.

4 Then will I leave you upon the land, I will cast you forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain upon you, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with you.

5 And I will lay your flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with your dead bodies.

6 I will also water with your blood the land in which you swim, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of you.

7 And when I shall put you out, I will cover the heaven, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give its light.

8 All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over you, and set darkness upon your land, says the Lord GOD.

9 I will also trouble the hearts of many people, when I shall bring your destruction among the nations, into the countries which you have not known.

10 Yea, I will make many people appalled at you, and their kings shall be horribly afraid of you, when I shall brandish my sword before them; and they shall tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your fall.

11 For thus says the Lord GOD; The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon you.

12 By the swords of the mighty will I cause your multitude to fall, the most terrible of the nations, all of them: and they shall plunder the pomp of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed.

13 I will destroy also all its beasts from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the hoofs of beasts trouble them.

14 Then will I make their waters clear, and cause their rivers to run like oil, says the Lord GOD.

15 When I shall make the land of Egypt desolate, and the country shall be destitute of that of which it was full, when I shall strike all them that dwell in it, then shall they know that I am the LORD.

16 This is the lamentation with which they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for her, even for Egypt, and for all her multitude, says the Lord GOD.

17 It came to pass also in the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

18 Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the lower parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit.

19 Whom do you surpass in beauty? go down, and be placed with the uncircumcised.

20 They shall fall in the midst of them that are slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes.

21 The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of sheol with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

22 Asshur is there and all her company: their graves are about her: all of them slain, fallen by the sword:

23 Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living.

24 There is Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.

25 They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about her: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: they are put in the midst of them that are slain.

26 There is Meshech, Tubal, and all their multitudes: their graves are round about them: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living.

27 And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to sheol with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

28 Yea, you shall be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shall lie with them that are slain with the sword.

29 There is Edom, her kings, and all her princes, who with their might are laid by them that were slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit.

30 There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who have gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.

31 Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, says the Lord GOD.

32 For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord GOD.
