Apocalipse 18

Te Horo a Papurōna

1 Ā muri iho i ēnei mea ka kite ahau i tētahi atu anahera e heke iho ana i te rangi, he mana nui tōna; mārama tonu hoki te ao i tōna korōria. 2 He nui hoki tōna reo ki te karanga, ki te mea:

"Kua horo, kua horo a Papurōna nui.

Kua meinga hei kāinga rēwera,

hei whare herehere hoki mō ngā wairua poke katoa,

hei whare herehere mō ngā manu poke katoa,

mō ngā manu whakarihariha.

3 Nā te wāina hoki o te riri o tōna moepuku i horo ai ngā tauiwi katoa;

i moepuku hoki ngā kīngi o te whenua ki a ia,

ā, kua whiwhi nui ngā kaihoko o te ao i te taonga

i te nui o āna mea whakaahuareka."

4 I rongo anō ahau i tētahi atu reo i te rangi, e mea ana:

"Puta mai koutou i roto i a ia,

e tōku iwi, kei uru tahi koutou ki ōna hara,

kei pāngia koutou e ōna whiu.

5 Kua tutuki hoki ōna hara ki te rangi,

kua mahara te Atua ki āna mahi hē.

6 Hoatu ki a ia tāna i hōmai ai ki a koutou,

takiruatia ngā mea mōna, kia rite ki āna mahi.

Ko te kapu i whakakīia e ia

kia rua ā koutou whakakīnga mōna.

7 Nā, kia rite ki tāna whakanuinga i a ia,

ki tōna tōreretanga ki āna mea whakaahuareka,

kia pērā anō te mamae me te pōuri e hoatu e koutou ki a ia.

E mea ana hoki ia i tōna ngākau:

‘E noho ana ahau hei kuīni!

Ehara hoki ahau i te pouaru,

e kore anō hoki ahau e kite i te pōuri.’

8 Mō konei anō ka tae mai ōna whiu i te rā kotahi,

te mate, te pōuri, te matekai;

ā, ka tahuna ia kia pau rawa i te ahi.

He kaha hoki te Ariki, te Atua, e whakawā nei i a ia."

9 Ā, ko ngā kīngi o te ao i moepuku nei ki a ia, i tōrere ngātahi nei ki āna mea whakaahuareka, tērā e tangi ki a ia, e auē ki a ia, ina kite rātou i te paoa o tōna tahunga. 10 Ka tū mai rātou i tawhiti i te wehi ki tōna whakamamae, ka mea,

"Auē, auē, te pā nui, Papurōna, te pā kaha!

Kua tae mai hoki tōu whakawā i te hāora kotahi."

11 Ka tangi anō hoki ngā kaihoko o te whenua, ka auē ki a ia; nō te mea kāhore atu he tangata hei hoko i tā rātou utanga; 12 i te utanga o te kōura, o te hiriwa, o te kōhatu utu nui, o te peara, o te rīnena pai, o te pāpura, o te hiraka, o te kahu whero; me ngā rākau taina katoa, me ngā tini oko rei, me ngā tini oko rākau utu nui whakaharahara, oko parāhi, rino, mapere, 13 me te hinamona, me ngā mea kakara, me te hinu kakara, me te parakihe, me te wāina, me te hinu, me te parāoa pai, me te wīti, me ngā kararehe, me ngā hipi; me te utanga o ngā hōiho, o ngā hāriata, o ngā pononga; me ngā wairua tāngata.

14 "Heoi, ko ngā hua i matea nuitia e tōu ngākau kua mawehe atu i a koe, ā, kua mahue hoki koe i ngā mea reka katoa, i ngā mea papai, ā, heoi anō te kitenga o aua mea e te tangata."

15 Ko ngā kaihoko o ēnei mea, kua whai taonga nei i a ia, ka tū mai rātou i tawhiti i te wehi ki tōna whakamamae, me te tangi, me te auē anō rātou, 16 me te kī:

"Auē, auē, te pā nui,

i kākahuria ki te rīnena pai, ki te pāpura,

ki te whero, i tātaitia ki te kōura,

ki te kōhatu utu nui, ki ngā peara!

17 Kotahi tonu hoki te hāora a mōtī rawa iho taua taonga nui."

Nā, ko ngā rangatira kaipuke katoa, ko te hunga katoa e rere ana rā te kaipuke ki ia wāhi, ko ngā kaiwhakatere kaipuke, me te hunga katoa anō kei te moana ā rātou mahi, tū mai ana rātou i tawhiti, 18 me te karanga anō rātou i tō rātou kitenga i te paoa o tōna tahunga, me te kī, "Ko tēhea pā i rite ki tēnei pā nui?" 19 Opehia ana hoki e rātou he puehu ki ō rātou māhunga, kei te karanga rātou, me te tangi, me te auē, kei te mea,

"Auē, auē, te pā nui,

i whai taonga ai i ōna utu nui te hunga katoa

he kaipuke a rātou i te moana!

Kotahi tonu nei hoki te hāora ā mōtī rawa iho!

20 Kia hari ki a ia, e te rangi,

e te hunga tapu, e ngā āpōtoro, e ngā poropiti anō hoki;

kua whakaritea nei hoki e te Atua tā koutou whakawā i a ia!"

21 Kātahi, ka hāpaingia ake e tētahi anahera kaha he kāmaka i rite nei ki tētahi kāmaka rahi nō te mira, ā, makā ana e ia ki te moana, me te kī anō ia:

"Ka pēneitia a Papurōna, te pā nui,

ka makā whakareretia atu,

e kore anō hoki e kitea i muri nei.

22 Nā, heoi anō, rongonga i roto i a koe ki te reo o ngā kaiwhakatangi hāpa,

o ngā kaiwhakatakoto rangi waiata,

o ngā kaiwhakatangi i ngā pūtōrino, i ngā tētere;

e kore anō hoki e kitea i ngā wā i muri nei tētahi kaimahi o ngā tini mahi i roto i a koe;

e kore anō hoki e rangona i ngā wā i muri nei

te haruru o te kōhatu mira i roto i a koe.

23 E kore anō hoki e whiti i ngā wā i muri nei te mārama o te rama i roto i a koe;

e kore anō hoki e rangona i ngā wā i muri nei te reo o te tāne mārena hou,

o te wahine mārena hou, i roto i a koe;

ōu kaihokohoko hoki ko ngā tāngata nunui o te ao;

nā āu mahi mākutu anō hoki i pōhēhē ai ngā iwi katoa.

24 I kitea anō hoki i roto i a ia ngā toto o ngā poropiti, o te hunga tapu,

o te hunga katoa hoki i whakamatea ki runga ki te whenua."

1 After these things I saw another angel coming down out of heaven, having great authority; and the earth was lightened with his glory. 2 And he cried with a mighty voice, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and is become a habitation of demons, and a hold of every unclean spirit, and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird. 3 For by the wine of the wrath of her fornication all the nations are fallen; and the kings of the earth committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth waxed rich by the power of her wantonness.

4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come forth, my people, out of her, that ye have no fellowship with her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues: 5 for her sins have reached even unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. 6 Render unto her even as she rendered, and double unto her the double according to her works: in the cup which she mingled, mingle unto her double. 7 How much soever she glorified herself, and waxed wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall in no wise see mourning. 8 Therefore in one day shall her plagues come, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire; for strong is the Lord God who judged her. 9 And the kings of the earth, who committed fornication and lived wantonly with her, shall weep and wail over her, when they look upon the smoke of her burning, 10 standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. 11 And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, for no man buyeth their merchandise any more; 12 merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stone, and pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet; and all thyine wood, and every vessel of ivory, and every vessel made of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon, and spice, and incense, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep; and merchandise of horses and chariots and slaves; and souls of men. 14 And the fruits which thy soul lusted after are gone from thee, and all things that were dainty and sumptuous are perished from thee, and men shall find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning; 16 saying, Woe, woe, the great city, she that was arrayed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stone and pearl! 17 for in one hour so great riches is made desolate. And every shipmaster, and every one that saileth any whither, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood afar off, 18 and cried out as they looked upon the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like the great city? 19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, wherein all that had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate. 20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye saints, and ye apostles, and ye prophets; for God hath judged your judgment on her.

21 And a strong angel took up a stone as it were a great millstone and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with a mighty fall shall Babylon, the great city, be cast down, and shall be found no more at all. 22 And the voice of harpers and minstrels and flute-players and trumpeters shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft, shall be found any more at all in thee; and the voice of a mill shall be heard no more at all in thee; 23 and the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the princes of the earth; for with thy sorcery were all the nations deceived. 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all that have been slain upon the earth.
