1 Davi consultou os capitães de mil e os capitães de cem, e todos os chefes, 2 e então disse a toda a congregação de Israel:

— Se vocês acharem por bem, e se isso for da vontade do Senhor, nosso Deus, enviemos depressa mensageiros a todos os nossos outros irmãos em todas as terras de Israel, e aos sacerdotes, e aos levitas com eles nas cidades e nos seus arredores, para que se reúnam conosco. 3 E então vamos trazer para o meio de nós a arca do nosso Deus, porque nos dias de Saul não nos valemos dela.

4 Toda a congregação concordou em fazer assim, porque isso pareceu justo aos olhos de todo o povo.

5 Davi reuniu todo o Israel, desde Sior, no Egito, até a entrada de Hamate, para trazer a arca de Deus de Quiriate-Jearim. 6 Então Davi, com todo o Israel, foi a Baalá, isto é, a Quiriate-Jearim, que fica em Judá, para de lá trazer a arca de Deus, diante da qual é invocado o nome do Senhor, que se assenta acima dos querubins. 7 Puseram a arca de Deus numa carroça nova e a levaram da casa de Abinadabe. Uzá e Aiô conduziam aquela carroça. 8 Davi e todo o Israel se alegravam diante de Deus com todas as suas forças, com cânticos, com harpas, liras, tamborins, címbalos e trombetas.

9 Quando chegaram à eira de Quidom, Uzá estendeu a mão para segurar a arca, porque os bois tropeçaram. 10 Então a ira do Senhor se acendeu contra Uzá e o feriu, por ter estendido a mão para segurar a arca; e ele morreu ali diante de Deus. 11 Davi ficou irado, porque o Senhor havia irrompido contra Uzá, e chamou aquele lugar de Perez-Uzá, até o dia de hoje. 12 Naquele dia, Davi teve medo de Deus e disse:

— Como poderei trazer a arca de Deus para junto de mim?

13 Por isso Davi não trouxe a arca para junto de si, para a Cidade de Davi, mas fez com que fosse levada para a casa de Obede-Edom, o geteu. 14 Assim, a arca de Deus ficou com a família de Obede-Edom durante três meses, e o Senhor abençoou a casa de Obede-Edom e tudo o que ele tinha.

1 And David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader.2 And David said to all the assembly of Israel, If it seems good to you, and if it be of LORD our God, let us send abroad everywhere to our brothers who are left in all the land of Israel, with whom the priests and Levites are in the3 And let us bring again the ark of our God to us, for we did not inquire from it in the days of Saul.4 And all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.5 So David assembled all Israel together, from the Shihor [the brook] of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.6 And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, [that is] to Kiriath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, LORD who sits [above] the cherubim that is called by the Name.7 And they carried the ark of God upon a new cart, [and brought it] out of the house of Abinadab. And Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.8 And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, even with songs, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.9 And when they came to the threshing-floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled.10 And the anger of LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him because he put forth his hand to the ark. And there he died before God.11 And David was displeased, because LORD had broken forth upon Uzza. And he called that place Perez-uzza, to this day.12 And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?13 So David did not move the ark to him into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.14 And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months. And LORD blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had.
