1 Davi disse:

— Aqui se levantará a Casa do Senhor Deus e o altar do holocausto para Israel.

2 Davi deu ordem para que fossem reunidos os estrangeiros que estavam na terra de Israel, e encarregou pedreiros que preparassem pedras lavradas para a construção da Casa de Deus. 3 Davi ajuntou ferro em abundância, para os pregos das folhas dos portões e para as junções, bem como bronze em abundância, que nem foi pesado, 4 além de madeira de cedro sem conta, porque os homens de Tiro e de Sidom a traziam a Davi em grande quantidade. 5 Pois Davi dizia:

— Meu filho Salomão ainda é moço e inexperiente, e o templo que será edificado para o Senhor deve ser sobremodo magnífico, para nome e glória em todas as terras. Portanto, vou providenciar o necessário para a construção.

Assim, antes de morrer, Davi providenciou materiais em abundância.

6 Então Davi chamou Salomão, seu filho, e lhe ordenou que edificasse um templo ao Senhor, Deus de Israel. 7 Davi disse a Salomão:

— Meu filho, tive a intenção de edificar um templo ao nome do Senhor, meu Deus. 8 Porém a palavra do Senhor veio a mim, dizendo: "Você derramou muito sangue e fez grandes guerras. Você não edificará um templo ao meu nome, porque derramou muito sangue na terra, na minha presença. 9 Eis que lhe nascerá um filho, que será homem pacífico, porque lhe darei descanso de todos os seus inimigos ao redor. Portanto, o nome dele será Salomão, e nos seus dias darei paz e tranquilidade a Israel. 10 Este edificará um templo ao meu nome. Ele me será por filho, e eu lhe serei por pai; e eu estabelecerei para sempre o trono do seu reino sobre Israel."

11 — Agora, meu filho, que o Senhor esteja com você, a fim de que você prospere e possa edificar a Casa do Senhor, seu Deus, como ele disse a seu respeito. 12 Que o Senhor lhe conceda prudência e entendimento, para que, quando for rei sobre Israel, você guarde a Lei do Senhor, seu Deus. 13 Então você prosperará, se tiver o cuidado de cumprir os estatutos e os juízos que o Senhor ordenou a Moisés a respeito de Israel. Seja forte e corajoso, não tenha medo, nem fique assustado. 14 Eis que, com muito esforço, preparei para a Casa do Senhor três mil e quatrocentas toneladas de ouro e mais de trinta e quatro mil toneladas de prata, e bronze e ferro em tal abundância, que nem foram pesados. Também preparei madeira e pedras, cuja quantidade você pode aumentar. 15 Além disso, você tem um grande número de trabalhadores: cortadores de pedras, pedreiros, carpinteiros e peritos em todo tipo de trabalho 16 em ouro, prata, bronze e ferro, que não se pode contar. Portanto, mãos à obra, e que o Senhor esteja com você!

17 Davi ordenou a todos os chefes de Israel que ajudassem Salomão, seu filho, dizendo:

18 — Não está com vocês o Senhor, seu Deus? E não é fato que lhes deu paz por todos os lados? Pois ele entregou nas minhas mãos os moradores desta terra, a qual está sujeita diante do Senhor e diante do seu povo. 19 Agora disponham o coração e a alma para buscar o Senhor, seu Deus. Preparem-se e comecem a construir o santuário do Senhor Deus, para que a arca da aliança do Senhor e os utensílios sagrados de Deus sejam trazidos a este templo, que será edificado ao nome do Senhor.

1 Then David said, This is the house of LORD God, and this is the altar of burnt-offering for Israel.2 And David commanded to gather together the sojourners that were in the land of Israel. And he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.3 And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the couplings, and brass in abundance without weight,4 and cedar trees without number. For the Sidonians and those of Tyre brought cedar trees in abundance to David.5 And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries. I will therefore make preparation for it. So David prepa6 Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build a house for LORD, the God of Israel.7 And David said to Solomon his son, As for me, it was in my heart to build a house to the name of LORD my God.8 But the word of LORD came to me, saying, Thou have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars. Thou shall not build a house to my name because thou have shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.9 Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest. And I will give him rest from all his enemies round about, for his name shall be Solomon. And I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.10 He shall build a house for my name. And he shall be my son, and I will be his father, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.11 Now, my son, LORD be with thee, and prosper thou, and build the house of LORD thy God as he has spoken concerning thee.12 Only LORD give thee discretion and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, so that thou may keep the law of LORD thy God.13 Then thou shall prosper, if thou observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel. Be strong, and of good courage. Fear not, neither be dismayed.14 Now, behold, in my affliction I have prepared for the house of LORD a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a million talents of silver, and of brass and iron without weight, for it is in abundance. Also I have prepared timber and15 Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all men who are skilful in every manner of work.16 Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and be doing, and LORD be with thee.17 David also commanded all the rulers of Israel to help Solomon his son, [saying],18 Is not LORD your God with you? And has he not given you rest on every side? For he has delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before LORD, and before his people.19 Now set your heart and your soul to seek after LORD your God. Arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the
