1 O rei Salomão reinou sobre todo o Israel. 2 E estes eram os seus altos oficiais: Azarias, filho de Zadoque, era o sacerdote; 3 Eliorefe e Aías, filhos de Sisa, eram secretários; Josafá, filho de Ailude, era o cronista; 4 Benaia, filho de Joiada, era comandante do exército; Zadoque e Abiatar eram sacerdotes; 5 Azarias, filho de Natã, era governador-chefe; Zabude, filho de Natã, era ministro e amigo do rei; 6 Aisar era o responsável pelo palácio; Adonirão, filho de Abda, era superintendente dos que realizavam trabalhos forçados.

7 Salomão tinha doze governadores sobre todo o Israel, que forneciam mantimento ao rei e ao seu palácio; cada um tinha de fornecer durante um mês do ano. 8 São estes os seus nomes: Ben-Hur, nas montanhas de Efraim; 9 Ben-Dequer, em Macaz, Saalabim, Bete-Semes, Elom e Bete-Hanã; 10 Ben-Hesede, em Arubote, Socó e toda a terra de Héfer; 11 Ben-Abinadabe, que era casado com Tafate, filha de Salomão, em toda a cordilheira de Dor; 12 Baaná, filho de Ailude, em Taanaque, Megido, e toda a Bete-Seã, que fica perto de Zaretã, abaixo de Jezreel, desde Bete-Seã até Abel-Meolá, até além de Jocmeão; 13 Ben-Geber, em Ramote-Gileade, nas aldeias de Jair, filho de Manassés, que estão em Gileade e também na região de Argobe, em Basã, sessenta grandes cidades com muralhas e ferrolhos de bronze; 14 Ainadabe, filho de Ido, em Maanaim; 15 Aimaás, que era casado com Basemate, outra filha de Salomão, em Naftali; 16 Baaná, filho de Husai, em Aser e Bealote; 17 Josafá, filho de Parua, em Issacar; 18 Simei, filho de Elá, em Benjamim; 19 Geber, filho de Uri, na terra de Gileade, a terra de Seom, rei dos amorreus, e de Ogue, rei de Basã; e havia só um governador nesta região.

20 O povo de Judá e Israel era tão numeroso como a areia que está na praia do mar; eles comiam, bebiam e se alegravam. 21 Salomão dominava sobre todos os reinos desde o Eufrates até a terra dos filisteus e até a fronteira do Egito. Esses reinos pagavam tributo e serviram Salomão durante todos os dias da sua vida. 22 As provisões diárias de Salomão eram três mil quilos da melhor farinha e seis mil quilos de farinha; 23 dez bois gordos, vinte bois de pasto e cem carneiros, além dos veados, as gazelas, os corços e aves bem-tratadas. 24 Porque Salomão dominava sobre toda a região e sobre todos os reis do lado de cá do Eufrates, desde Tifsa até Gaza, e tinha paz em toda a região ao redor. 25 Judá e Israel habitavam seguros, cada um debaixo da sua videira e debaixo da sua figueira, desde Dã até Berseba, durante todos os dias de Salomão.

26 Salomão tinha também quatro mil cavalos em estrebarias, para os seus carros de guerra, e doze mil cavaleiros. 27 Os governadores forneciam provisões, cada um no seu mês, ao rei Salomão e a todos os que chegavam à sua mesa; coisa nenhuma deixavam faltar. 28 Também levavam a cevada e a palha para os cavalos e os ginetes, para o lugar onde estivesse o rei, segundo lhes havia sido prescrito.

29 Deus deu a Salomão sabedoria, entendimento fora do comum e uma inteligência tão vasta como a areia que está na praia do mar. 30 A sabedoria de Salomão era maior do que a de todos os homens do Oriente e do que toda a sabedoria dos egípcios. 31 Era mais sábio do que todos os homens: mais sábio do que Etã, ezraíta, e do que Hemã, Calcol e Darda, filhos de Maol. E a sua fama se espalhou por todas as nações ao redor. 32 Compôs três mil provérbios, e os seus cânticos foram mil e cinco. 33 Falou sobre todas as plantas, desde o cedro que está no Líbano até o hissopo que brota dos muros; também falou sobre os animais e as aves, os animais que rastejam e os peixes. 34 De todos os povos vinha gente para ouvir a sabedoria de Salomão, e também mensageiros de todos os reis da terra que tinham ouvido falar da sua sabedoria.

1 And king Solomon was king over all Israel.2 And these were the rulers whom he had: Azariah the son of Zadok, the priest;3 Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder;4 and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the army; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;5 and Azariah the son of Nathan was over the officers; and Zabud the son of Nathan was chief minister, [and] the king's friend;6 and Ahishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the men subject to task work.7 And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel who provided provisions for the king and his household. Each man had to make provision for a month in the year.8 And these are their names: Ben-hur, in the hill-country of Ephraim;9 Ben-deker, in Makaz, and in Shaalbim, and Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-hanan;10 Ben-hesed, in Arubboth (to him [pertained] Socoh, and all the land of Hepher);11 Ben-abinadab, in all the height of Dor (he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon to wife);12 Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth-shean which is beside Zarethan, beneath Jezreel, from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam;13 Ben-geber, in Ramoth-gilead (to him [pertained] the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; [even] to him [pertained] the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and brazen bars);14 Ahinadab the son of Iddo, in Mahanaim;15 Ahimaaz, in Naphtali (he also took Basemath the daughter of Solomon to wife);16 Baana the son of Hushai, in Asher and Bealoth;17 Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar;18 Shimei the son of Ela, in Benjamin;19 Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan, and [he was] the only officer who was in the land.20 Judah and Israel were as many as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and making merry.21 And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt. They brought tribute, and served Solomon all the days of his life.22 And Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and sixty measures of meal,23 ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and a hundred sheep, besides harts, and gazelles, and roebucks, and fatted fowl.24 For he had dominion over all [the region] on this side the River, from Tiphsah even to Gaza, over all the kings on this side of the River. And he had peace on all sides round about him.25 And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.26 And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.27 And those officers provided provisions for king Solomon, and for all who came to king Solomon's table, every man in his month; they let nothing be lacking.28 Barley also and straw for the horses and swift steeds they brought to the place where [the officers] were, every man according to his charge.29 And God gave Solomon exceedingly much wisdom and understanding, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea-shore.30 And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the sons of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt.31 For he was wiser than all men: than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame was in all the nations round about.32 And he spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were a thousand and five.33 And he spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall. He spoke also of beasts, and of birds, and of creeping things, and of fishes.34 And there came of all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.
