1 Tendo Roboão confirmado o reino e havendo-se fortalecido, abandonou a Lei do Senhor, e todo o Israel fez o mesmo. 2 Sisaque, rei do Egito, atacou Jerusalém no quinto ano do reinado de Roboão. Isso aconteceu porque tinham transgredido contra o Senhor. 3 O rei do Egito atacou a cidade com mil e duzentos carros de guerra e sessenta mil cavaleiros; era inumerável a gente que vinha com ele do Egito, a saber, um exército de líbios, suquitas e etíopes. 4 Sisaque tomou as cidades fortificadas que pertenciam a Judá e veio a Jerusalém. 5 Então o profeta Semaías foi falar com Roboão e com os príncipes de Judá, que, por causa de Sisaque, se haviam ajuntado em Jerusalém, e lhes disse:

— Assim diz o Senhor: "Vocês me abandonaram, e por isso eu os abandonei, entregando-os nas mãos de Sisaque."

6 Então os príncipes de Israel e o rei se humilharam e disseram:

— O Senhor é justo.

7 Quando o Senhor viu que eles se humilharam, a palavra do Senhor veio a Semaías, dizendo:

— Eles se humilharam. Não os destruirei, mas em breve lhes darei socorro, para que o meu furor não se derrame sobre Jerusalém por meio de Sisaque. 8 Porém serão servos dele, para que conheçam a diferença entre o que é servir a mim e servir os reinos da terra.

9 Então Sisaque, rei do Egito, atacou Jerusalém e levou embora os tesouros da Casa do Senhor e os tesouros do palácio real. Levou tudo, inclusive os escudos de ouro que Salomão tinha feito. 10 Em lugar destes, o rei Roboão fez escudos de bronze e os entregou nas mãos dos capitães da guarda, que guardavam o portão do palácio real. 11 Toda vez que o rei entrava na Casa do Senhor, os da guarda vinham, usavam os escudos, e depois os devolviam à câmara da guarda.

12 Pelo fato de Roboão ter se humilhado, a ira do Senhor se afastou dele, e não houve destruição total. Porque em Judá ainda havia boas coisas.

13 O rei Roboão fortificou-se em Jerusalém e continuou reinando. Roboão tinha quarenta e um anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou dezessete anos em Jerusalém, cidade que o Senhor escolheu dentre todas as tribos de Israel para ali estabelecer o seu nome. A mãe dele se chamava Naamá e era amonita. 14 Roboão fez o que era mau, porque não dispôs o coração para buscar o Senhor.

15 Quanto aos demais atos de Roboão, tanto os primeiros como os últimos, não está tudo escrito no Livro da História de Semaías, o profeta, e no Livro da História de Ido, o vidente, no registro das genealogias? Roboão e Jeroboão estiveram sempre em guerra. 16 Roboão morreu e foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi. E Abias, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

1 And it came to pass, when the kingdom of Rehoboam was established, and he was strong, that he forsook the law of LORD, and all Israel with him.2 And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had trespassed against LORD,3 with twelve hundred chariots, and thirty thousand horsemen. And the people were without number who came with him out of Egypt: the Lubim, the Sukkiim, and the Ethiopians.4 And he took the fortified cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.5 Now Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam, and to the rulers of Judah, who were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them, Thus says LORD, Ye have forsaken me, therefore I have also left you in the hand of6 Then the rulers of Israel and the king humbled themselves, and they said, LORD is righteous.7 And when LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves. I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance, and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jer8 Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.9 So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he took all away. He also took away the shields of gold which Solomon had made.10 And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard that kept the door of the king's house.11 And it was so, that, as often as the king entered into the house of LORD, the guard came and bore them, and brought them back into the guard-chamber.12 And when he humbled himself, the wrath of LORD turned from him, so as not to destroy him altogether. And moreover in Judah there were good things.13 So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned. For Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Isra14 And he did that which was evil, because he did not set his heart to seek LORD.15 Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the histories of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer, after the manner of genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.16 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. And Abijah his son reigned in his stead.
