1 Josafá morreu e foi sepultado no túmulo de seus pais, na Cidade de Davi; e Jeorão, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

2 Jeorão tinha irmãos, filhos de Josafá. Eles se chamavam Azarias, Jeiel, Zacarias, Azarias, Micael e Sefatias, e eram todos filhos de Josafá, rei de Judá. 3 O pai deles lhes deu muitos presentes de prata, de ouro e de coisas preciosas, além de cidades fortificadas em Judá; porém deu o reino a Jeorão, por ser o primogênito.

4 Tendo Jeorão assumido o reino de seu pai e havendo-se fortalecido, matou à espada todos os seus irmãos e também alguns dos chefes de Israel. 5 Jeorão tinha trinta e dois anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou oito anos em Jerusalém. 6 Andou nos caminhos dos reis de Israel, como também fizeram os da casa de Acabe, porque era casado com uma filha dele. E Jeorão fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor. 7 Porém o Senhor não quis destruir a casa de Davi por causa da aliança que havia feito com ele e segundo a promessa que lhe havia feito de dar uma lâmpada a ele e aos seus filhos para sempre.

8 Nos dias de Jeorão, os edomitas se revoltaram contra o poder de Judá e constituíram o seu próprio rei. 9 Por isso Jeorão foi até lá com todos os seus chefes e com todos os seus carros de guerra. Ele se levantou de noite e atacou os edomitas que o cercavam e os capitães dos carros de guerra. 10 Assim, Edom se rebelou para se livrar do poder de Judá até o dia de hoje. Na mesma época a cidade de Libna também se rebelou contra Jeorão, porque este havia abandonado o Senhor, Deus de seus pais.

11 Jeorão também construiu lugares altos nos montes de Judá, seduziu os moradores de Jerusalém à idolatria, e fez com que Judá se afastasse do Senhor. 12 Então lhe chegou às mãos uma carta do profeta Elias, em que estava escrito:

"Assim diz o Senhor, Deus de Davi, seu pai: ‘Você não andou nos caminhos de seu pai Josafá, nem nos caminhos de Asa, rei de Judá, 13 mas andou nos caminhos dos reis de Israel e seduziu o povo de Judá e os moradores de Jerusalém à idolatria, segundo a idolatria da casa de Acabe. Além disso, você matou os seus próprios irmãos, da casa de seu pai, que eram melhores do que você. 14 Por isso o Senhor castigará com um grande flagelo este povo do qual você é rei, bem como os seus filhos, as mulheres que você tem e todas as suas posses. 15 Você terá uma doença grave nos seus intestinos, doença esta que aumentará dia após dia, até que os seus intestinos saiam do corpo.’"

16 O Senhor despertou contra Jeorão o ânimo dos filisteus e dos árabes que moravam perto dos etíopes. 17 Estes subiram contra o reino de Judá e o invadiram. Levaram embora todos os bens que encontraram no palácio real, inclusive os filhos e as mulheres dele, assim que não lhe deixaram filho algum, a não ser Jeoacaz, o mais moço deles.

18 Depois de tudo isto, o Senhor feriu Jeorão com uma doença incurável nos intestinos. 19 A doença ia aumentando dia após dia e, ao final de dois anos, os intestinos saíram por causa da doença, e ele morreu com dores horríveis. O seu povo não fez nenhuma fogueira em honra dele, como havia feito para os seus pais.

20 Jeorão tinha trinta e dois anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou oito anos em Jerusalém. E se foi sem deixar saudades. Foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi, mas não nos túmulos dos reis.

1 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.2 And he had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.3 And their father gave them great gifts, of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah. But the kingdom he gave to Jehoram, because he was the first-born.4 Now when Jehoram was risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and also various of the rulers of Israel.5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab, for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife. And he did that which was evil in the sight of LORD.7 However LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons always.8 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.9 Then Jehoram passed over with his captains, and all his chariots with him. And he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites that encompassed him around, and the captains of the chariots.10 So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time from under his hand because he had forsaken LORD, the God of his fathers.11 Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot, and led Judah astray.12 And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus says LORD, the God of David thy father, Because thou have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,13 but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot, like the house of Ahab did, and also have slain thy brothers of thy father's house who were better than thy14 , behold, LORD will smite thy people with a great plague, and thy sons, and thy wives, and all thy substance.15 And thou shall have great sickness by disease of thy bowels until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness, day by day.16 And LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians who are beside the Ethiopians.17 And they came up against Judah, and broke into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives, so that there has not been left a son to him, except Jehoahaz, the youngest18 And after all this LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.19 And it came to pass, in process of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels fell out because of his sickness, and he died of severe diseases. And his people made no burning for him like the burning of his fathers.20 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. And he departed without being wanted. And they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchers of the kings.
