1 Como correntes de águas,
assim é o coração do rei
na mão do Senhor;
este o dirige para onde quiser.
2 Todo caminho de uma pessoa
é reto aos seus próprios olhos,
mas o Senhor sonda os corações.
3 Fazer justiça e julgar com retidão
é mais aceitável ao Senhor
do que oferecer sacrifícios.
4 Olhar arrogante
e coração orgulhoso
— a lâmpada dos ímpios —
são pecado.
5 Os planos de quem é esforçado
conduzem à fartura,
mas a pressa excessiva
leva à pobreza.
6 Fazer fortuna
por meio da mentira
é vaidade e armadilha mortal.
7 A violência dos ímpios
os leva à ruína,
porque eles se recusam
a praticar a justiça.
8 O caminho do culpado
é tortuoso,
mas, quanto ao inocente,
a sua conduta é reta.
9 Melhor é morar
no canto do terraço
do que com uma mulher briguenta
na mesma casa.
10 A alma do ímpio deseja o mal;
nem o seu vizinho
recebe dele compaixão.
11 Quando o zombador é castigado,
os ingênuos se tornam sábios;
e, quando o sábio é instruído,
cresce no conhecimento.
12 Deus, o justo, observa
a casa dos ímpios
e os faz cair em desgraça.
13 Quem tapa os ouvidos
ao clamor do pobre
também clamará
e não será ouvido.
14 O presente que se dá em segredo
acalma a ira,
e a dádiva em sigilo
vence a mais forte indignação.
15 Praticar a justiça
é uma alegria para o justo,
mas espanto
para os que praticam o mal.
16 Quem se desvia do caminho
do entendimento
repousará na congregação
dos mortos.
17 Quem ama os prazeres
acabará na pobreza;
quem ama o vinho e a boa vida
nunca ficará rico.
18 O ímpio serve de resgate
para o justo,
e, em lugar dos retos,
é entregue o infiel.
19 Melhor é morar
numa terra deserta
do que com a mulher briguenta
e geniosa.
20 Na casa do sábio
há tesouros preciosos
e o suficiente para viver,
mas o tolo desperdiça
tudo o que tem.
21 Quem segue a justiça
e a bondade
achará a vida, a justiça e a honra.
22 O sábio escala a cidade
dos valentes
e derruba a fortaleza
em que eles confiam.
23 Quem guarda a boca e a língua
guarda a sua alma
de muitas dificuldades.
24 Quanto ao orgulhoso
e arrogante,
zombador é o seu nome;
ele age com orgulho e arrogância.
25 O preguiçoso morre desejando,
porque as suas mãos
se recusam a trabalhar.
26 O cobiçoso cobiça todo o dia,
porém o justo
dá com generosidade.
27 O sacrifício dos ímpios
já é abominação;
ainda mais quando é oferecido
com más intenções!
28 A testemunha falsa perecerá,
mas quem sabe ouvir
falará sem ser contestado.
29 O ímpio aparenta determinação,
mas o justo considera
o seu caminho.
30 Não há sabedoria,
nem entendimento,
nem mesmo conselho
contra o Senhor.
31 O cavalo é preparado
para o dia da batalha,
mas a vitória vem do Senhor.

1 The king's heart is in the hand of LORD as the watercourses. He turns it wherever he will.2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but LORD weighs the hearts.3 To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to LORD than sacrifice.4 A high look, and a proud heart, [even] the lamp of the wicked, is sin.5 The thoughts of a diligent man [lead] only to abundance, but everyone who is hasty, only to want.6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vapor driven to and fro by those who seek death.7 The violence of the wicked shall sweep them away, because they refuse to do justice.8 The way of him who is laden with guilt is exceedingly crooked, but as for a pure man, his work is right.9 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.10 The soul of a wicked man desires evil. His neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.11 When a scoffer is punished, a simple man is made wise, and when a wise man is instructed, he receives knowledge.12 A righteous man considers the house of the wicked: the wicked are overthrown to ruin.13 He who stops his ears at the cry of a poor man, he also shall cry, but shall not be heard.14 A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a present in the bosom, strong wrath.15 It is joy to the righteous to do justice, but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.16 The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the dead.17 He who loves pleasure shall be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil shall not be rich.18 A wicked man is a ransom for a righteous man, and the treacherous dealer for the upright.19 It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.20 There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of a wise man, but a foolish man swallows it up.21 He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness, and honor.22 A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and brings down the strength of the confidence of it.23 He who keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.24 The proud and haughty man, scoffer is his name. He works in the arrogance of pride.25 The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.26 There is he who covets greedily all the day long, but the righteous gives and does not withhold.27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination. How much more when he brings it with a wicked mind!28 A FALSE witness shall perish, but the man who hears shall speak so as to endure.29 A wicked man hardens his face, but as for an upright man, he establishes his ways.30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against LORD.31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle, but victory is from LORD.
