1 "Consolem, consolem

o meu povo",

diz o Deus de vocês.

2 "Falem ao coração de Jerusalém

e anunciem que o tempo

da sua escravidão já acabou,

que a sua iniquidade

está perdoada

e que ela já recebeu em dobro

das mãos do Senhor

por todos os seus pecados."

3 Uma voz clama:

"No deserto preparem

o caminho do Senhor!

No ermo façam uma estrada reta

para o nosso Deus!

4 Todos os vales serão levantados,

e todos os montes e colinas

serão rebaixados;

o que é tortuoso será retificado,

e os lugares ásperos

serão aplanados.

5 A glória do Senhor

se manifestará,

e toda a humanidade a verá,

pois a boca do Senhor o disse."

6 Uma voz diz: "Proclame!"

E alguém pergunta:

"Que hei de proclamar?"

Toda a humanidade é erva,

e toda a sua glória

é como a flor do campo.

7 A erva seca e as flores caem,

soprando nelas o hálito do Senhor.

Na verdade, o povo é erva.

8 A erva seca e as flores caem,

mas a palavra do nosso Deus

permanece para sempre.

9 Ó Sião, você que anuncia

boas-novas,

suba a um alto monte!

Ó Jerusalém, você que anuncia

boas-novas,

levante a sua voz fortemente!

Levante-a, não tenha medo.

Diga às cidades de Judá:

"Eis aí está o seu Deus!"

10 Eis que o Senhor Deus

virá com poder,

e o seu braço dominará;

eis que o seu galardão

está com ele,

e diante dele

vem a sua recompensa.

11 Como pastor, ele apascentará

o seu rebanho;

entre os seus braços recolherá

os cordeirinhos

e os carregará no colo;

as que amamentam

ele guiará mansamente.

12 Quem na concha de sua mão

mediu as águas

e tomou a medida dos céus

a palmos?

Quem recolheu o pó da terra

na terça parte de uma vasilha

e pesou os montes e as colinas

numa balança?

13 Quem guiou

o Espírito do Senhor?

Ou, como seu conselheiro,

o ensinou?

14 Com quem ele se aconselhou,

para que lhe desse compreensão?

Quem lhe ensinou

a vereda da justiça

ou quem lhe ensinou sabedoria?

E quem lhe mostrou

o caminho de entendimento?

15 Eis que as nações

são consideradas por ele

como um pingo que cai

de um balde

e como um grão de pó na balança;

eis que ele carrega as ilhas

como se fossem pó fino.

16 O Líbano não seria suficiente

para o fogo,

e os animais de lá não bastariam

para um holocausto.

17 Diante dele, todas as nações

são como coisa que não é nada;

ele as considera menos

do que nada, como um vácuo.

18 Com quem vocês querem

comparar Deus?

Com que imagem vocês o podem

confrontar?

19 Quanto à imagem,

esta é moldada pelo artífice;

depois, o ourives a reveste de ouro

e forja correntes de prata para ela.

20 O pobre, que não pode fazer

tal oferta,

escolhe madeira que não apodrece

e procura um artífice perito

para fazer uma imagem esculpida

que não oscile.

21 Será que vocês não sabem?

Será que não ouviram?

Será que isso

não lhes foi anunciado

desde o princípio?

Vocês não entenderam isso

desde a fundação do mundo?

Vocês não atentaram

para os fundamentos da terra?

22 Ele é o que está assentado

sobre a cúpula da terra,

cujos moradores

são como gafanhotos.

É ele quem estende os céus

como cortina

e os desenrola como tenda

para neles habitar.

23 É ele quem reduz a nada

os príncipes

e torna em nulidade

os juízes da terra.

24 Mal foram plantados

e semeados,

mal se arraigou na terra

o seu tronco,

já secam, quando um sopro

passa por eles,

e uma tempestade

os leva como palha.

25 "Com quem vocês vão

me comparar?

A quem eu seria igual?"

— diz o Santo.

26 Levantem os olhos para o alto

e vejam.

Quem criou estas coisas?

Aquele que faz sair o seu exército

de estrelas,

todas bem-contadas,

as quais ele chama pelo nome;

por ser ele grande em força

e forte em poder,

nem uma só vem a faltar.

27 Por que, então, você diz, ó Jacó,

e você fala, ó Israel:

"O meu caminho está encoberto

ao Senhor,

e o meu direito passa

despercebido ao meu Deus"?

28 Será que você não sabe,

nem ouviu que o eterno Deus,

o Senhor,

o Criador dos confins da terra,

nem se cansa, nem se fatiga?

A sabedoria dele é insondável.

29 Ele fortalece o cansado

e multiplica as forças

ao que não tem nenhum vigor.

30 Os jovens se cansam

e se fatigam,

e os moços, de exaustos, caem,

31 mas os que esperam no Senhor

renovam as suas forças,

sobem com asas como águias,

correm e não se cansam,

caminham e não se fatigam.

1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. 2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem; and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she hath received of Jehovah’s hand double for all her sins.

3 The voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain: 5 and the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it.

6 The voice of one saying, Cry. And one said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field. 7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, because the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it; surely the people is grass. 8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God shall stand forever.

9 O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, get thee up on a high mountain; O thou that tellest good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold, your God! 10 Behold, the Lord Jehovah will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him: Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and will gently lead those that have their young.

12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? 13 Who hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah, or being his counsellor hath taught him? 14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding? 15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are accounted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. 16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering. 17 All the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing, and vanity.

18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him? 19 The image, a workman hath cast it, and the goldsmith overlayeth it with gold, and casteth for it silver chains. 20 He that is too impoverished for such an oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a skilful workman to set up a graven image, that shall not be moved. 21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is he that sitteth above the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in; 23 that bringeth princes to nothing; that maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. 24 Yea, they have not been planted; yea, they have not been sown; yea, their stock hath not taken root in the earth: moreover he bloweth upon them, and they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble. 25 To whom then will ye liken me, that I should be equal to him? saith the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high, and see who hath created these, that bringeth out their host by number; he calleth them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and for that he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and the justice due to me is passed away from my God? 28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard? The everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary; there is no searching of his understanding. 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 but they that wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.
