1 Amados, não deem crédito a qualquer espírito, mas provem os espíritos para ver se procedem de Deus; porque muitos falsos profetas têm saído mundo afora. 2 Nisto vocês reconhecem o Espírito de Deus: todo espírito que confessa que Jesus Cristo veio em carne é de Deus; 3 e todo espírito que não confessa isso a respeito de Jesus não procede de Deus; pelo contrário, este é o espírito do anticristo, a respeito do qual vocês ouviram dizer que viria e que agora já está no mundo.

4 Filhinhos, vocês são de Deus e venceram os falsos profetas, porque aquele que está em vocês é maior do que aquele que está no mundo. 5 Eles procedem do mundo; por essa razão, falam da parte do mundo, e o mundo os ouve. 6 Nós somos de Deus. Quem conhece a Deus nos ouve; quem não é de Deus não nos ouve. Nisto reconhecemos o espírito da verdade e o espírito do erro.

7 Amados, amemo-nos uns aos outros, porque o amor procede de Deus, e todo aquele que ama é nascido de Deus e conhece a Deus. 8 Quem não ama não conhece a Deus, pois Deus é amor. 9 Nisto se manifestou o amor de Deus em nós: em haver Deus enviado o seu Filho unigênito ao mundo, para vivermos por meio dele. 10 Nisto consiste o amor: não em que nós tenhamos amado a Deus, mas em que ele nos amou e enviou o seu Filho como propiciação pelos nossos pecados.

11 Amados, se Deus nos amou de tal maneira, nós também devemos amar uns aos outros. 12 Nunca ninguém viu Deus. Se amarmos uns aos outros, Deus permanece em nós, e o seu amor é, em nós, aperfeiçoado.

13 Nisto conhecemos que permanecemos nele e que ele permanece em nós: pelo fato de nos ter dado do seu Espírito. 14 E nós temos visto e damos testemunho de que o Pai enviou o seu Filho como Salvador do mundo. 15 Aquele que confessar que Jesus é o Filho de Deus, Deus permanece nele, e ele permanece em Deus. 16 E nós conhecemos o amor e cremos neste amor que Deus tem por nós.

Deus é amor, e aquele que permanece no amor permanece em Deus, e Deus permanece nele. 17 Nisto o amor é aperfeiçoado em nós, para que, no Dia do Juízo, mantenhamos confiança; pois, assim como ele é, também nós somos neste mundo. 18 No amor não existe medo; pelo contrário, o perfeito amor lança fora o medo. Porque o medo envolve castigo, e quem teme não é aperfeiçoado no amor.

19 Nós amamos porque ele nos amou primeiro. 20 Se alguém disser: "Amo a Deus", mas odiar o seu irmão, esse é mentiroso. Pois quem não ama o seu irmão, a quem vê, não pode amar a Deus, a quem não vê. 21 E o mandamento que dele temos é este: quem ama a Deus, que ame também o seu irmão.

1 Beloved! not in every spirit, believe ye, but test the spirits, whether they are, of God; because, many false prophets, have gone out into the world.

2 Hereby, do ye perceive the Spirit of God:every spirit that confesseth Jesus Christ as having come, in flesh, is, of God;

3 And, every spirit that doth not confess Jesus, of God, is not. And, this, is the

4 Ye, are, of God, dear children, and have overcome them; because, greater, is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

5 They, are, of the world: For this cause, of the world, they speak, and the world, unto them, doth hearken.

6 We, are, of God: he that is getting to understand God, hearkeneth unto us,whoso is not of God, hearkeneth not unto us: from this, perceive wethe spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

7 Beloved! let us be loving one another; because, love, is, of God, and, whosoever loveth, of God, hath been born, and is getting to understand God:

8 He that doth not love, doth not understand God, because, God, is, love.

9 Herein, hath the love of God in us, been made manifest, that, his only-begotten Son, God sent into the world, in order that we might live through him.

10 Herein, is love: not that, we, have loved God, but that, he, loved us, and sent forth his Son, as a propitiation concerning our sins.

11 Beloved! If, in this way, God, loved us, we also, ought to love, one another.

12 Upon God, hath no one, at any time, gazed: If we love one another, God, in us, abideth, and, his love, hath been perfected within us.

13 Hereby, perceive wethat, in him, are we abiding, and, he, in us,in that, of his Spirit, hath he given unto us.

14 And, we, for ourselves have gazed, and are bearing witnessthat, the Father, sent forth the Son, as Saviour of the world.

15 Whosoever shall confess, that, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God, in him, abideth, and, he, in God.

16 And, we, have come to understand and to trust the love which, God, hath, in us. God, is, love; and, he that abideth in love, in God, abideth, and, God, in him abideth .

17 Herein, hath love with us, been made perfect,in order that, boldness, we might have in the day of judging,in that, just as, He, is, we also, are, in this world.

18 Fear, existeth not, in love, but, perfect love, casteth fear, outside; because, fear, hath correction: he that feareth, hath not been made perfect, in love.

19 We, love, because, he, first loved us:

20 If one should say, I love God, and should be hating, his brother, false, is he; for, he that doth not love his brother, whom he hath seen, God, whom he hath not seen, he cannot love!

21 And, this commandment, have we from him,that, he who loveth God, love, his brother also.
