1 Quando Roboão chegou a Jerusalém, reuniu a casa de Judá e de Benjamim, cento e oitenta mil homens escolhidos, treinados para a guerra, para lutar contra Israel, a fim de restituir o reino a Roboão. 2 Porém a palavra do Senhor veio a Semaías, homem de Deus, dizendo:

3 — Diga a Roboão, filho de Salomão, rei de Judá, e a todo o Israel em Judá e Benjamim: 4 Assim diz o Senhor: "Não subam, nem lutem contra os seus irmãos. Que cada um volte para a sua casa, porque eu é que fiz isto."

E eles obedeceram à palavra do Senhor e desistiram de atacar Jeroboão.

5 Roboão morou em Jerusalém e, para defesa, fortificou várias cidades em Judá, a saber, 6 Belém, Etã, Tecoa, 7 Bete-Zur, Socó, Adulão, 8 Gate, Maressa, Zife, 9 Adoraim, Laquis, Azeca, 10 Zorá, Aijalom e Hebrom. Todas estas cidades fortificadas estão em Judá e Benjamim. 11 Assim, Roboão as tornou em fortalezas, pôs nelas comandantes e nelas armazenou mantimentos, azeite e vinho. 12 E pôs em cada cidade um arsenal de escudos e lanças, tornando-as muito fortes. Judá e Benjamim ficaram sob o domínio de Roboão.

13 Os sacerdotes e os levitas de todos os lugares de Israel apoiaram Roboão. 14 Os levitas abandonaram os arredores das suas cidades e as suas propriedades e vieram para Judá e para Jerusalém, porque Jeroboão e seus filhos os expulsaram, para que não ministrassem ao Senhor. 15 Jeroboão constituiu os seus próprios sacerdotes, para os lugares altos, para os ídolos em forma de bodes e de bezerros que tinha mandado fazer. 16 Além destes, também de todas as tribos de Israel os que de coração resolveram buscar o Senhor, Deus de Israel, foram a Jerusalém, para oferecer sacrifícios ao Senhor, Deus de seus pais. 17 Assim, fortaleceram o reino de Judá e firmaram o poder de Roboão, filho de Salomão, durante três anos. Porque durante três anos andaram no caminho de Davi e de Salomão.

18 Roboão tomou por esposa Maalate, filha de Jerimote, filho de Davi, e filha de Abiail, filha de Eliabe, filho de Jessé. 19 Maalate lhe deu três filhos: Jeús, Semarias e Zaão. 20 Depois dela, Roboão casou com Maaca, filha de Absalão, que lhe deu quatro filhos: Abias, Atai, Ziza e Selomite. 21 Roboão amava Maaca, filha de Absalão, mais do que todas as suas outras mulheres e concubinas. Porque ele havia tomado dezoito mulheres e sessenta concubinas; e gerou vinte e oito filhos e sessenta filhas. 22 Roboão designou Abias, filho de Maaca, para ser chefe, príncipe entre os seus irmãos, porque queria fazê-lo rei. 23 Procedeu com sabedoria e distribuiu todos os seus filhos por todas as terras de Judá e Benjamim, por todas as cidades fortificadas. Deu-lhes mantimentos em abundância e lhes arranjou muitas mulheres.

1 And when Rehoboam had entered Jerusalem, he called together the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors,to fight against Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam.

2 Then came the word of Yahweh, unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying:

3 Speak unto Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah,and unto all Israel in Judah and in Benjamin, saying:

4 Thus, saith Yahweh, Ye shall not go up neither shall ye fight against your brethren, return every man to his own house, for, from me, hath this thing been brought about. So they hearkened unto the words of Yahweh, and turned back from going against Jeroboam.

5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem,and built cities for defence, in Judah;

6 yea he built Bethlehem and Etam, and Tekoa;

7 and Beth-zur and Soco, and Adullam;

8 and Gath and Mareshah, and Ziph;

9 and Adoraim and Lachish, and Azekah;

10 and Zorah, and Aijalon and Hebron, which are in Judah and Benjamin,as fortified cities.

11 And he strengthened the fortified places,and put therein captains, and stores of food, and oil and wine;

12 and, in every several city, shields and spears, and made them exceedingly strong,thus Judah and Benjamin remained his.

13 And, the priests and Levites that were in all Israel, took their stand with him, out of all their boundaries.

14 For the Levites left their pasture lands, and their possessions, and came to Judah, and to Jerusalem,for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, from ministering as priests unto Yahweh;

15 and appointed for himself priests for the high places, and for the demonsand for the calves which he had made.

16 And, after themout of all the tribes of Israel, such as were setting their heart to seek Yahweh God of Israel, came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto Yahweh, God of their fathers.

17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and emboldened Rehoboam son of Solomon, for three years,for they walked in the way of David and Solomon, for three years.

18 And Rehoboam took him to wife, Mahalath, daughter of Jerimoth, son of David,and Abihail, daughter of Eliab, son of Jesse;

19 and she bare him sons,Jeush and Shamariah and Zaham.

20 And, after her, he took Maacah, daughter of Absolom,and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 And Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absolom, above all his wives and his concubines, for, eighteen wives, took he, and sixty concubines,and begat twenty-eight sons, and sixty daughters.

22 So then Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as head, to be chief ruler among his brethren,yea that he might make him king.

23 So he took heed, and dispersed all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto all the fortified cities, and gave them food in abundance,and asked a multitude of wives.
