1 Por isso, assim como Cristo sofreu no corpo, vocês também devem estar prontos, como ele estava, para sofrer. Porque aquele que sofre no corpo deixa de ser dominado pelo pecado. 2 Então, de agora em diante, vivam o resto da sua vida aqui na terra de acordo com a vontade de Deus e não se deixem dominar pelas paixões humanas. 3 No passado vocês já gastaram bastante tempo fazendo o que os pagãos gostam de fazer. Naquele tempo vocês viviam na imoralidade, nos desejos carnais, nas bebedeiras, nas orgias, na embriaguez e na nojenta adoração de ídolos. 4 E agora os pagãos ficam admirados quando vocês não se juntam com eles nessa vida louca e imoral e por isso os insultam. 5 Porém eles vão ter de prestar contas a Deus, que está pronto para julgar os vivos e os mortos. 6 Pois o evangelho foi anunciado também aos mortos, os quais morreram por causa do julgamento de Deus, como morrem todos os seres humanos. O evangelho foi anunciado a eles a fim de que pudessem viver a vida espiritual como Deus quer que eles vivam.

7 O fim de todas as coisas está perto. Sejam prudentes e estejam alertas para poder orar. 8 Acima de tudo, amem sinceramente uns aos outros, pois o amor perdoa muitos pecados. 9 Hospedem uns aos outros, sem reclamar. 10 Sejam bons administradores dos diferentes dons que receberam de Deus. Que cada um use o seu próprio dom para o bem dos outros! 11 Quem prega pregue a palavra de Deus; quem serve sirva com a força que Deus dá. Façam assim para que em tudo Deus seja louvado por meio de Jesus Cristo, a quem pertencem a glória e o poder para todo o sempre! Amém!

12 Meus queridos amigos, não fiquem admirados com a dura prova de aflição pela qual vocês estão passando, como se alguma coisa fora do comum estivesse acontecendo a vocês. 13 Pelo contrário, alegrem-se por estarem tomando parte nos sofrimentos de Cristo, para que fiquem cheios de alegria quando a glória dele for revelada. 14 Vocês serão felizes se forem insultados por serem seguidores de Cristo, porque isso quer dizer que o glorioso Espírito de Deus veio sobre vocês. 15 Se algum de vocês tiver de sofrer, que não seja por ser assassino, ladrão, criminoso ou por se meter na vida dos outros. 16 Mas, se alguém sofrer por ser cristão, não fique envergonhado, mas agradeça a Deus o fato de ser chamado por esse nome.

17 Pois o tempo de começar o julgamento já chegou, e os que pertencem ao povo de Deus serão os primeiros a serem julgados. Se esse julgamento vai começar conosco, qual será o fim daqueles que não creem no evangelho de Deus? 18 Como dizem as Escrituras Sagradas: "Se é difícil os bons serem salvos, o que será daqueles pecadores que não querem saber de Deus?"

19 Por isso os que sofrem porque esta é a vontade de Deus para eles devem, por meio das suas boas ações, entregar-se completamente aos cuidados do Criador, que sempre cumpre as suas promessas.

1 Christ, then, having suffered in flesh, do, ye also, with the same purpose, arm yourselves,because, he that hath suffered in flesh, hath done with sins,

2 To the end that, no longer, in mens covetings, but in Gods will, ye may live, the still remaining time.

3 For, sufficient, is the bygone timeto have wrought out, the will of the nations, having gone on in wanton ways, covetings, wine-drinkings, revellings, drinking-bouts, and impious idolatries:

4 Wherein they are taken by surprise that ye run not with them into the same overflow of riotous excess,uttering defamation:

5 Who shall render an account unto him who is holding in readiness to judge living and dead;

6 For, unto this end, even unto the dead, was the glad-message delivered,in order that they might be judged, indeed, according to men in flesh, but might live according to God in spirit.

7 But, the end of all things, hath drawn near:be of sound mind, therefore, and be sober for prayers;

8 Before all things, keeping, fervent, your love, among yourselves, because, love, covereth a multitude of sins;

9 Showing hospitality one to another without murmuring,

10 Each one, according as he hath received a gift of favour, unto one another, ministering the same, as careful stewards of the manifold favour of God:

11 If any one speaketh, as oracles of God, if any one ministereth, as of strength which, God, supplieth,that, in all things, God may be glorified through Jesus Christ,unto whom are the glory and the dominion, unto the ages of ages. Amen!

12 Beloved! be not held in surprise by the burning among you, which, for putting you to the proof, is befalling you, as though a, surprising, thing were happening unto you;

13 But, in so far as ye are taking fellowship in the Christs sufferings, rejoice! in order that, in the revealing of his glory also, ye may rejoice with exultation:

14 If ye are being reproached in the name of Christ, happy of God, unto you is bringing rest.

15 For let, none of you, be suffering as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as one prying into other mens affairs;

16 But, if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but be glorifying God in this name.

17 For it is the ripe time for the judgment to begin with the house of God; but, if first with us, what shall be the end of them who yield not unto the glad-message of God?

18 And, if, the righteous man, is, with difficulty, saved, where then shall, the ungodly and sinful man, appear?

19 So then, let, them who are even suffering, according to the will of God, unto a faithful Creator, be committing their souls, in well-doing.
