1 Esta é a mensagem a respeito do povo de Israel que Deus deu a Amós, pastor de ovelhas da cidade de Tecoa. Isso aconteceu dois anos antes do terremoto, quando Uzias era rei de Judá, e Jeroboão, filho de Joás, era rei de Israel. 2 Amós disse:

"Do monte Sião, em Jerusalém,

o Senhor Deus fala alto,

e a sua voz parece o trovão.

Os pastos murcham,

e tudo seca no monte Carmelo."

3 O Senhor Deus diz:

— O povo de Damasco tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Eles torturaram o povo de Gileade, fazendo passar sobre eles rodas com pontas de ferro. 4 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo no palácio do rei Hazael, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas do rei Ben-Hadade. 5 Arrombarei os portões da cidade de Damasco e acabarei com os governadores de Biqueate-Avém e de Bete-Éden. O povo da Síria será levado como prisioneiro para a terra de Quir. Eu, o Senhor, falei.

6 O Senhor Deus diz:

— O povo de Gaza tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Eles levaram como prisioneiro todo o povo de uma região e os venderam como escravos ao povo de Edom. 7 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo nas muralhas de Gaza, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas daquela cidade. 8 Vou acabar com os reis de Asdode e de Asquelom. Destruirei a cidade de Ecrom e acabarei com todos os outros filisteus. Eu, o Senhor, falei.

9 O Senhor Deus diz:

— O povo de Tiro tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Levaram como prisioneiro para Edom todo o povo de uma região com o qual tinham feito um acordo de amizade. 10 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo nas muralhas de Tiro, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas daquela cidade.

11 O Senhor Deus diz:

— O povo do país de Edom tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Fizeram guerra contra os seus irmãos , os israelitas, e não tiveram dó nem piedade. A raiva dos edomitas não parou, e eles conservaram o seu ódio para sempre. 12 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo na cidade de Temã, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas de Bosra.

13 O Senhor Deus diz:

— O povo do país de Amom tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Na guerra para conquistar mais terras na região de Gileade, eles rasgaram as barrigas de mulheres grávidas. 14 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo nas muralhas de Rabá, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas daquela cidade. Haverá batalhas violentas e gritos de homens lutando. 15 O rei e as autoridades serão levados como prisioneiros. Eu, o Senhor, falei.

1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa,of which (words) he had vision concerning Israel, in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

2 So then he saidYahweh, out of Zion, will roar, and, out of Jerusalem, will utter his voice,and the pastures of the shepherds, shall mourn, and the top of Carmel, be dried up.

3 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of Damascus, and because of four, will I not turn it back,Because, with threshing instruments of iron, they have threshed Gilead.

4 Therefore will send a fire, into the house of Hazael,which shall devour the palaces of Ben- hadad;

5 And I will break the bolt of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant out of the plain of Aven, and the holder of the sceptre out of the house of Eden,and the people of Syria, shall be exiled, unto Kir, saith Yahweh.

6 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of Gaza, and because of four, will I not turn it back,Because of their taking into exile the whole body of exiles, to deliver to Edom,

7 Therefore will I send a fire upon the wall of Gaza,which shall devour the palaces thereof;

8 And I will cut off the inhabitant out of Ashdod, and the holder of the sceptre out of Ashkelon,and will turn my hand against Ekron, So shall perish the remnant of the Philistines, saith My Lord, Yahweh.

9 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of Tyre, and because of four, will I not turn it back,Because of their delivering up the whole body of exiles to Edom, and they remembered not the brotherly covenant,

10 Therefore will I send a fire upon the wall of Tyre,which shall devour the palaces thereof.

11 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of Edom, and because of four, will I not turn it back,Because he pursued, with the sword, his brother, and stifled his compassions, and his anger tare in pieces evermore, and, his indignation, kept watch perpetually,

12 Therefore will I send a fire into Teman,which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

13 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of the sons of Ammon, and because of four, will I not turn it back,Because of their ripping up the pregnant women of Gilead, that they might enlarge their own boundary,

14 Therefore will I kindle a fire upon the wall of Rabbah, which shall devour the palaces thereof,with a war-cry in the day of battle, with tempest in the day of storm-wind;

15 And Milcom shall go into exile,he and his rulers together, saith Yahweh.
