1 Eliú prosseguiu:2 "Você acha que isso é justo? Pois você diz: ‘Serei absolvido por Deus’.3 Contudo, você lhe pergunta: ‘Que vantagem tenho eu, e o que ganho, se não pecar? ’4 "Desejo responder-lhe, a você e aos seus amigos que estão com você.5 Olhe para os céus e veja; mire as nuvens, tão elevadas.6 Se você pecar, em que isso o afetará? Se os seus pecados forem muitos, que é que isso lhe fará?7 Se você for justo, o que lhe dará? Ou o que ele receberá de sua mão?8 A sua impiedade só afeta aos homens, seus semelhantes, e a sua justiça, aos filhos dos homens.9 "Os homens se lamentam sob fardos de opressão; imploram que os libertem do braço dos poderosos.10 Mas não há quem pergunte: ‘Onde está Deus, o meu Criador, que de noite faz surgirem cânticos,11 que nos ensina mais que aos animais da terra e nos faz mais sábios que as aves dos céus? ’12 Quando clamam, ele não responde por causa da arrogância dos ímpios.13 Aliás, Deus não escuta a vã súplica que fazem; o Todo-poderoso não lhe dá atenção.14 Pois muito menos escutará quando você disser que não o vê, que a sua causa está diante dele e que você tem que esperar por ele.15 Mais que isso, que a sua ira jamais castiga e que ele não dá a mínima atenção à iniqüidade.16 Assim é que Jó abre a sua boca para dizer palavras vãs; em sua ignorância ele multiplica palavras".

1 Moreover Elihu answered, and said,2 What [is] this thou think in judgment? Who are thou that thou said, I am righteousness before LORD?3 That thou said, What advantage will it be to thee? [And], What profit shall I have more than if I had sinned?4 I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.5 Look to the heavens, and see. And behold the skies, which are higher than thou.6 If thou have sinned, what do thou effect against him? And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what do thou to him?7 If thou be righteous, what do thou give him? Or what does he receive of thy hand?8 Thy wickedness [is] a man as thou are, and thy righteousness [is] a son of man.9 Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out. They cry for help because of the arm of the mighty.10 But none says, Where is God my maker who gives songs in the night,11 who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?12 There they cry, but none gives answer, because of the pride of evil men.13 Surely God will not hear an empty [cry], nor will the Almighty regard it.14 How much less when thou say thou do not behold him. The case is before him, and thou wait for him!15 But now, because he has not visited in his anger, nor does he greatly regard folly,16 so Job opens his mouth in vanity. He multiplies words without knowledge.
