1 Então Bildade, de Suá, respondeu:2 "Até quando você vai falar desse modo? Suas palavras são um grande vendaval!3 Acaso Deus torce a justiça? Será que o Todo-poderoso torce o que é direito?4 Quando os seus filhos pecaram contra ele, ele os castigou pelo mal que fizeram.5 Mas, se você procurar a Deus e implorar junto ao Todo-poderoso,6 se você for íntegro e puro, ele se levantará agora mesmo em seu favor e o restabelecerá no lugar que por justiça cabe a você.7 O seu começo parecerá modesto, mas o seu futuro será de grande prosperidade.8 "Pergunte às gerações anteriores e veja o que os seus pais aprenderam,9 pois nós nascemos ontem e não sabemos nada. Nossos dias na terra não passam de uma sombra.10 Acaso eles não o instruirão, não lhe falarão? Não proferirão palavras vindas do entendimento?11 Poderá o papiro crescer senão no pântano? Sem água cresce o junco?12 Mal cresce e, antes de ser colhido, seca-se, mais depressa que qualquer grama.13 Esse é o destino de todo o que se esquece de Deus; assim perece a esperança dos ímpios.14 Aquilo em que ele confia é frágil, aquilo em que se apóia é uma teia de aranha.15 Encosta-se em sua teia, mas ela cede; agarra-se a ela, mas ela não agüenta.16 Ele é como uma planta bem regada ao brilho do sol, espalhando seus brotos pelo jardim;17 entrelaça as raízes em torno de um monte de pedras e procura um lugar entre as rochas.18 Mas, quando é arrancada do seu lugar, este o rejeita e diz: ‘Nunca o vi’.19 Esse é o fim da sua vida, e do solo brotam outras plantas.20 "Pois o certo é que Deus não rejeita o íntegro, e não fortalece as mãos dos que fazem o mal.21 Mas, quanto a você, ele encherá de riso a sua boca e de brados de alegria os seus lábios.22 Seus inimigos se vestirão de vergonha, e as tendas dos ímpios não mais existirão".

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered, and said,2 How long will thou speak these things? And [how long] shall the words of thy mouth be [like] a mighty wind?3 Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness?4 If thy sons have sinned against him, and he has delivered them into the hand of their transgression,5 if thou would seek diligently to God, and make thy supplication to the Almighty,6 if thou were pure and upright, surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.7 And though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end would greatly increase.8 For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and apply thyself to that which their fathers have searched out9 (for we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow).10 Shall they not teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?11 Can the rush grow up without mire? Can a reed grow without water?12 While it is yet in its greenness, [and] not cut down, it withers before any [other] herb.13 So are the paths of all who forget God. And the hope of the profane man shall perish,14 whose confidence shall break apart, and whose trust is a spider's web.15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand. He shall hold fast thereby, but it shall not endure.16 He is green before the sun, and his shoots go forth over his garden.17 His roots are wrapped around the [stone] heap. He beholds the place of stones.18 If he is destroyed from his place, then it shall deny him, [saying], I have not seen thee.19 Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth others shall spring.20 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, nor will he uphold the evil-doers.21 He will yet fill thy mouth with laughter, and thy lips with shouting.22 Those who hate thee shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked shall be no more.
