Jó 33

1 "Mas agora, Jó, escute as minhas palavras;

preste atenção em tudo o que vou dizer.

2 Estou prestes a abrir a boca;

as minhas palavras estão na ponta da língua.

3 As minhas palavras procedem de um coração íntegro;

os meus lábios falam com sinceridade o que eu sei.

4 O Espírito de Deus me fez;

o fôlego do Todo-poderoso*33.4 Hebraico: Shadai. me dá vida.

5 Responda-me, então, se puder;

prepare-se para enfrentar-me.

6 Sou igual a você diante de Deus;

eu também fui feito do barro.

7 Por isso, não devo inspirar nenhum temor,

e a minha mão não há de ser pesada sobre você.

8 "Certamente você falou na minha presença

— eu ouvi bem as suas palavras:

9 ‘Estou limpo e sem pecado;

estou puro e sem culpa.

10 Contudo, Deus procurou em mim motivos para inimizade;

ele me considera seu inimigo.

11 Ele acorrenta os meus pés;

vigia de perto todos os meus caminhos’.

12 "Mas eu digo que você não está certo,

porque Deus é maior que o homem.

13 Por que você se queixa a ele

de que não responde às palavras dos homens?*33.13 Ou por quaisquer das ações dele?

14 Pois Deus fala — ora de um modo, ora de outro —,

mesmo que ninguém o perceba.

15 Em sonho ou em visão durante a noite,

quando o sono profundo cai sobre os homens

e dormem na cama,

16 ele lhes abre os ouvidos

e os aterroriza com advertências,*33.16 Conforme a Septuaginta. O Texto Massorético traz e sela com advertências.

17 para prevenir o homem das suas más ações

e livrá-lo do orgulho;

18 para preservar-lhe da cova a alma,

e a vida da espada.*33.18 Ou e de atravessar o Rio.

19 "Ou o homem pode ser castigado no leito de dor,

com os seus ossos em constante agonia,

20 de modo que ache a comida repulsiva

e a sua alma deteste a refeição preferida.

21 Já não se vê a sua carne,

e os seus ossos, que antes não se viam, agora aparecem.

22 A sua alma aproxima-se da cova;

a sua vida, dos mensageiros da morte.

23 Havendo, porém, um anjo ao lado dele,

um mediador entre mil,

que diga ao homem o que é certo,

24 ele demonstrará compaixão e intercederá:

‘Poupe-o de descer à cova;

encontrei resgate para ele’,

25 então a sua carne se renova

voltando a ser como de criança; ele se rejuvenesce.

26 Ele ora a Deus e recebe o seu favor;

vê o rosto de Deus e dá gritos de alegria,

e Deus lhe restitui a condição de justo.

27 Depois, ele vem aos homens e diz:

‘Pequei e torci o que era certo,

mas ele não me deu o que eu merecia.

28 Ele resgatou a minha alma, impedindo-a de descer à cova,

e viverei para desfrutar a luz’.

29 "Deus faz dessas coisas à humanidade,

duas ou até mesmo três vezes,

30 para recuperar-lhe a alma da cova,

a fim de que refulja sobre o homem a luz da vida.

31 "Preste atenção, Jó, e escute-me;

fique em silêncio, e falarei.

32 Se você tem algo a dizer, responda-me;

fale logo, pois quero que você seja absolvido.

33 Se não tem nada a dizer, ouça-me; fique em silêncio,

e eu lhe ensinarei a sabedoria".

1 Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear my speech,

And hearken to all my words.

2 Behold now, I have opened my mouth;

My tongue hath spoken in my mouth.

3 My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart;

And that which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.

4 The Spirit of God hath made me,

And the breath of the Almighty giveth me life.

5 If thou canst, answer thou me;

Set thy words in order before me, stand forth.

6 Behold, I am toward God even as thou art:

I also am formed out of the clay.

7 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid,

Neither shall my pressure be heavy upon thee.

8 Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing,

And I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

9 I am clean, without transgression;

I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me:

10 Behold, he findeth occasions against me,

He counteth me for his enemy;

11 He putteth my feet in the stocks,

He marketh all my paths.

12 Behold, I will answer thee, in this thou art not just;

For God is greater than man.

13 Why dost thou strive against him,

For that he giveth not account of any of his matters?

14 For God speaketh once,

Yea twice, though man regardeth it not.

15 In a dream, in a vision of the night,

When deep sleep falleth upon men,

In slumberings upon the bed;

16 Then he openeth the ears of men,

And sealeth their instruction,

17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose,

And hide pride from man;

18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit,

And his life from perishing by the sword.

19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed,

And with continual strife in his bones;

20 So that his life abhorreth bread,

And his soul dainty food.

21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen;

And his bones that were not seen stick out.

22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit,

And his life to the destroyers.

23 If there be with him an angel,

An interpreter, one among a thousand,

To show unto man what is right for him;

24 Then God is gracious unto him, and saith,

Deliver him from going down to the pit,

I have found a ransom.

25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s;

He returneth to the days of his youth.

26 He prayeth unto God, and he is favorable unto him,

So that he seeth his face with joy:

And he restoreth unto man his righteousness.

27 He singeth before men, and saith,

I have sinned, and perverted that which was right,

And it profited me not:

28 He hath redeemed my soul from going into the pit,

And my life shall behold the light.

29 Lo, all these things doth God work,

Twice, yea thrice, with a man,

30 To bring back his soul from the pit,

That he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me:

Hold thy peace, and I will speak.

32 If thou hast anything to say, answer me:

Speak, for I desire to justify thee.

33 If not, hearken thou unto me:

Hold thy peace, and I will teach thee wisdom.
