Jó 34

1 Eliú continuou:

2 "Ouçam as minhas palavras, ó sábios;

escutem-me, vocês que têm conhecimento.

3 Porque o ouvido prova as palavras

como a língua prova o alimento.

4 Tratemos de discernir juntos o que é justo

e de aprender o que é bom.

5 "Jó afirma: ‘Sou inocente,

mas Deus me nega justiça.

6 Apesar de eu estar certo,

sou considerado mentiroso;

apesar de não ter culpa,

a sua flecha me causa ferida incurável’.

7 Que homem existe como Jó,

que bebe zombaria como água?

8 Ele é companheiro dos que fazem o mal

e anda com os ímpios.

9 Pois diz: ‘Não há lucro para o homem

que agrada a Deus’.*34.9 Ou em deleitar-se em Deus.

10 "Por isso, escutem-me, vocês que têm bom senso.

Longe de Deus que ele faça o mal,

e do Todo-poderoso*34.10 Hebraico: Shadai; também no versículo 12. que ele pratique a iniquidade.

11 Ele retribui ao homem conforme o que este fez,

e lhe dá o que a sua conduta merece.

12 A verdade é esta: Deus não faz o mal;

o Todo-poderoso jamais perverte a justiça.

13 Quem o nomeou para governar a terra?

Quem o encarregou de cuidar do mundo inteiro?

14 Se fosse a intenção dele,

e ele removesse o seu espírito*34.14 Ou Espírito. e o seu fôlego,

15 a humanidade pereceria toda de uma vez,

e o homem voltaria ao pó.

16 "Portanto, se você tem entendimento, ouça-me;

escute o que tenho a dizer.

17 Acaso quem odeia a justiça poderá governar?

Você ousará condenar aquele que é justo e poderoso?

18 Não é ele que diz aos reis: ‘Vocês nada valem’,

e aos nobres: ‘Vocês são ímpios’?

19 Não é verdade que ele não mostra parcialidade a favor dos príncipes

e não favorece o rico em detrimento do pobre,

uma vez que todos são obra das suas mãos?

20 Morrem em um momento, em plena noite;

cambaleiam e passam.

Os poderosos são retirados sem

a intervenção de mãos humanas.

21 "Pois Deus vê o caminho dos homens;

ele enxerga cada um dos seus passos.

22 Não há escuridão ou trevas densas o bastante,

onde os que fazem o mal possam se esconder.

23 Deus não precisa de mais tempo para examinar os homens

antes de levá-los à sua presença para julgamento.*34.23 Ou Pois não está no controle dos homens definir o momento em que se apresentarão diante de Deus para o julgamento.

24 Sem depender de investigações,

ele destrói os poderosos e põe outros no lugar.

25 Visto que repara nos atos que estes praticam,

derruba-os, e eles são esmagados.

26 Pela impiedade deles,

ele os castiga onde todos podem vê-los.

27 Isso porque deixaram de segui-lo

e não deram atenção aos caminhos por ele traçados.

28 Fizeram chegar a ele o grito dos pobres,

e ele ouviu o clamor dos necessitados.

29 Se, porém, ele permanecer calado,

quem poderá condená-lo?

Se esconder o rosto, quem poderá vê-lo?

No entanto, ele domina igualmente sobre homens e nações,

30 para evitar que o ímpio governe

e prepare armadilhas para o povo.

31 "Suponhamos que um homem diga a Deus:

‘Sou culpado, mas não voltarei a te ofender.

32 Mostra-me o que não estou vendo;

se agi mal, não tornarei a fazê-lo’.

33 Quanto a você, deveria Deus recompensá-lo

quando você nega a sua culpa?

É você que deve decidir, não eu;

conte-me, pois, o que você sabe.

34 "Os homens que têm bom senso me dizem,

os sábios que me ouvem me declaram:

35 ‘Jó não sabe o que diz;

não há discernimento nas suas palavras’.

36 Ah, se Jó fosse provado ao máximo

pela sua resposta de ímpio!

37 Ao seu pecado, ele acrescenta a revolta;

com desprezo, bate palmas entre nós

e multiplica as suas palavras contra Deus".

1 Moreover Elihu answered and said,

2 Hear my words, ye wise men;

And give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3 For the ear trieth words,

As the palate tasteth food.

4 Let us choose for us that which is right:

Let us know among ourselves what is good.

5 For Job hath said, I am righteous,

And God hath taken away my right:

6 Notwithstanding my right I am accounted a liar;

My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.

7 What man is like Job,

Who drinketh up scoffing like water,

8 Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity,

And walketh with wicked men?

9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing

That he should delight himself with God.

10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding:

Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness,

And from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

11 For the work of a man will he render unto him,

And cause every man to find according to his ways.

12 Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly,

Neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

13 Who gave him a charge over the earth?

Or who hath disposed the whole world?

14 If he set his heart upon himself,

If he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

15 All flesh shall perish together,

And man shall turn again unto dust.

16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this:

Hearken to the voice of my words.

17 Shall even one that hateth justice govern?

And wilt thou condemn him that is righteous and mighty?—

18 Him that saith to a king, Thou art vile,

Or to nobles, Ye are wicked;

19 That respecteth not the persons of princes,

Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor;

For they all are the work of his hands.

20 In a moment they die, even at midnight;

The people are shaken and pass away,

And the mighty are taken away without hand.

21 For his eyes are upon the ways of a man,

And he seeth all his goings.

22 There is no darkness, nor thick gloom,

Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23 For he needeth not further to consider a man,

That he should go before God in judgment.

24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out,

And setteth others in their stead.

25 Therefore he taketh knowledge of their works;

And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

26 He striketh them as wicked men

In the open sight of others;

27 Because they turned aside from following him,

And would not have regard in any of his ways:

28 So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him,

And he heard the cry of the afflicted.

29 When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn?

And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him?

Alike whether it be done unto a nation, or unto a man:

30 That the godless man reign not,

That there be none to ensnare the people.

31 For hath any said unto God,

I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

32 That which I see not teach thou me:

If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?

33 Shall his recompense be as thou wilt, that thou refusest it?

For thou must choose, and not I:

Therefore speak what thou knowest.

34 Men of understanding will say unto me,

Yea, every wise man that heareth me:

35 Job speaketh without knowledge,

And his words are without wisdom.

36 Would that Job were tried unto the end,

Because of his answering like wicked men.

37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin;

He clappeth his hands among us,

And multiplieth his words against God.
