Lucas 4

A tentação de Jesus

1 Jesus, cheio do Espírito Santo, voltou do Jordão e foi levado pelo Espírito ao deserto, 2 onde foi tentado pelo Diabo durante quarenta dias. Não comeu nada durante esses dias e, ao fim deles, teve fome.

3 O Diabo lhe disse:

— Se és o Filho de Deus, ordena a esta pedra que se transforme em pão.

4 Jesus respondeu:

— Está escrito: "Nem só de pão viverá o homem".*4.4 Dt 8.3.

5 Então, o Diabo o levou a um lugar alto e mostrou-lhe em um relance todos os reinos do mundo. 6 Ele disse:

— Eu te darei toda a autoridade sobre eles e todo o seu esplendor, porque me foram dados e posso dá-los a quem eu quiser. 7 Portanto, se me adorares, tudo será teu.

8 Jesus respondeu:

— Está escrito: "Adore ao Senhor, o seu Deus, e só a ele preste culto".*4.8 Dt 6.13.

9 Em seguida, o Diabo o levou a Jerusalém, colocou-o na parte mais alta do templo e lhe disse:

— Se és o Filho de Deus, joga-te daqui para baixo. 10 Pois está escrito:

"Ele dará ordem aos anjos dele a seu respeito,

para o guardarem;

11 com as mãos eles o segurarão,

para que você não tropece em alguma pedra".*4.10,11 Sl 91.11,12.

12 Jesus respondeu:

— Dito está: "Não ponha à prova o Senhor, o seu Deus".*4.12 Dt 6.16.

13 Tendo terminado todas essas tentações, o Diabo o deixou até ocasião oportuna.

Jesus é rejeitado em Nazaré

14 Jesus voltou para a Galileia no poder do Espírito, e por toda aquela região se espalhou a sua fama. 15 Ele ensinava nas sinagogas, e todos o glorificavam.

16 Ele foi a Nazaré, onde havia sido criado, e no dia de sábado entrou na sinagoga, como era o seu costume, e levantou-se para ler. 17 Foi-lhe entregue o pergaminho do profeta Isaías, e, desenrolando-o, encontrou o lugar onde estava escrito:

18 "O Espírito do Senhor está sobre mim,

porque ele me ungiu

para levar boas-novas aos pobres.

Ele me enviou para proclamar liberdade aos presos

e recuperação da vista aos cegos,

para libertar os oprimidos

19 e proclamar o ano do favor do Senhor".*4.18,19 Is 58.6; 61.1,2.

20 Então, fechou o livro, devolveu-o ao assistente e sentou-se. Na sinagoga, todos tinham os olhos fitos nele, 21 e ele começou a dizer-lhes:

— Hoje se cumpriu a Escritura que vocês acabaram de ouvir.

22 Todos falavam bem dele e estavam admirados das palavras de graça que saíam dos seus lábios. Contudo, perguntavam:

— Não é este o filho de José?

23 Jesus lhes disse:

— É claro que vocês me citarão este provérbio: "Médico, cura a ti mesmo! Faz aqui na tua terra o que ouvimos que fizeste em Cafarnaum".

24 Ele continuou:

— Em verdade lhes digo que nenhum profeta é aceito na sua própria terra. 25 Asseguro a vocês que havia muitas viúvas em Israel no tempo de Elias, quando o céu foi fechado por três anos e meio, de maneira que houve uma grande fome em toda a terra. 26 Contudo, Elias não foi enviado a nenhuma delas, senão a uma viúva de Sarepta, na região de Sidom. 27 Também havia muitos leprosos*4.27 A palavra grega era utilizada para designar vários tipos de doença de pele, não somente lepra. em Israel no tempo de Eliseu, o profeta, e nenhum deles foi purificado, a não ser Naamã, o sírio.

28 Todos os que estavam na sinagoga ficaram furiosos quando ouviram isso. 29 Eles se levantaram, expulsaram-no da cidade e o levaram até o topo da colina sobre a qual fora construída a cidade, a fim de lançá-lo precipício abaixo. 30 Jesus, porém, passou por entre eles e retirou-se.

Jesus expulsa um espírito imundo

31 Então, ele desceu a Cafarnaum, cidade da Galileia, e, no sábado, começou a ensinar o povo. 32 Eles ficavam maravilhados com o seu ensino, porque falava com autoridade.

33 Havia na sinagoga um homem possesso de um demônio, de um espírito imundo,*4.33 Ou maligno; também no versículo 36. o qual gritou com toda a força:

34 — Ah, que queres conosco, Jesus de Nazaré? Vieste para nos destruir? Sei quem tu és: o Santo de Deus!

35 Jesus, porém, o repreendeu, dizendo:

— Cale-se e saia dele!

Então, o demônio jogou o homem no chão diante de todos e saiu dele sem o ferir.

36 Todos ficaram admirados e diziam uns aos outros:

— Que palavra é esta? Até aos espíritos imundos dá ordens com autoridade e poder, e eles saem! 37 As notícias a seu respeito se espalhavam por toda aquela região.

Jesus cura muitos enfermos e expulsa demônios

38 Jesus saiu da sinagoga e foi à casa de Simão. A sogra de Simão estava com febre alta, e pediram a Jesus que fizesse algo por ela. 39 Estando ele em pé junto dela, inclinou-se e repreendeu a febre, que a deixou. Ela se levantou imediatamente e passou a servi-los.

40 Ao pôr do sol, o povo trouxe a Jesus todos os que tinham vários tipos de enfermidades; ele impôs as mãos em cada um deles e os curou. 41 Além disso, de muitas pessoas saíam demônios, gritando:

— Tu és o Filho de Deus!

Ele, porém, os repreendia e não permitia que falassem, porque sabiam que ele era o Cristo.

42 Ao romper do dia, Jesus foi a um lugar deserto. As multidões o procuravam e, quando chegaram até onde ele estava, insistiram que não as deixasse. 43 Ele, porém, disse:

— É necessário que eu pregue o evangelho do reino de Deus em outras cidades também, porque para isso fui enviado.

44 E continuava pregando nas sinagogas da Judeia.*4.44 Há manuscritos que trazem Galileia.

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted*4:2 The Greek for tempted can also mean tested. by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

3 The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread."

4 Jesus answered, "It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’*4:4 Deut. 8:3"

5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours."

8 Jesus answered, "It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’*4:8 Deut. 6:13"

9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written:

" ‘He will command his angels concerning you

to guard you carefully;

11 they will lift you up in their hands,

so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’*4:11 Psalm 91:11,12"

12 Jesus answered, "It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’*4:12 Deut. 6:16"

13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.

16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners

and recovery of sight for the blind,

to set the oppressed free,

19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor."* 4:19 Isaiah 61:1,2 (see Septuagint); Isaiah 58:6

20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn’t this Joseph’s son?" they asked.

23 Jesus said to them, "Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’ "

24 "Truly I tell you," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown.25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land.26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy*4:27 The Greek word traditionally translated leprosy was used for various diseases affecting the skin.in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian."

28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. 30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit

31 Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people. 32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority.

33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 "Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"

35 "Be quiet!" Jesus said sternly. "Come out of him!" Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.

36 All the people were amazed and said to each other, "What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!" 37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.

Jesus Heals Many

38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. 39 So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.

40 At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. 41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.

42 At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. 43 But he said, "I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent."44 And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
