A tentação de Jesus

1 Em seguida, Jesus foi levado pelo Espírito ao deserto para ser tentado pelo Diabo. 2 Depois de jejuar quarenta dias e quarenta noites, teve fome. 3 O tentador aproximou-se dele e disse:

— Se és o Filho de Deus, ordena que estas pedras se transformem em pães.

4 Jesus respondeu:

— Está escrito: "Nem só de pão viverá o homem, mas de toda palavra que procede da boca de Deus".*4.4 Dt 8.3.

5 Então, o Diabo o levou à cidade santa, colocou-o na parte mais alta do templo 6 e lhe disse:

— Se és o Filho de Deus, joga-te daqui para baixo. Pois está escrito:

"Ele dará ordem aos anjos dele a seu respeito;

com as mãos eles o segurarão,

para que você não tropece em alguma pedra".*4.6 Sl 91.11,12.

7 Jesus respondeu:

— Também está escrito: "Não ponha à prova o Senhor, o seu Deus".*4.7 Dt 6.16.

8 Depois, o Diabo o levou a um monte muito alto e mostrou-lhe todos os reinos do mundo e a glória deles. 9 Ele disse:

— Tudo isto te darei se, prostrado, me adorares.

10 Então, Jesus lhe disse:

— Retire-se, Satanás! Pois está escrito: "Adore ao Senhor, o seu Deus, e só a ele preste culto".*4.10 Dt 6.13.

11 Assim, o Diabo o deixou, e imediatamente os anjos vieram e o serviram.

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted*4:1 The Greek for tempted can also mean tested. by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."

4 Jesus answered, "It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’*4:4 Deut. 8:3"

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:

" ‘He will command his angels concerning you,

and they will lift you up in their hands,

so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’*4:6 Psalm 91:11,12"

7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’*4:7 Deut. 6:16"

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."

10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’*4:10 Deut. 6:13"

11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
