1 Não se regozije, ó Israel; não se alegre como as outras nações. Pois você se prostituiu, abandonando o seu Deus; você ama o salário da prostituição em cada eira de trigo.2 Os produtos da eira e do lagar não alimentarão o povo; o vinho novo lhes faltará.3 Eles não permanecerão na terra do Senhor; Efraim voltará para o Egito, e na Assíria comerá comida impura.4 Eles não derramarão ofertas de vinho para o Senhor, nem o agradarão os seus sacrifícios. Tais sacrifícios serão para eles como o pão dos pranteadores, que torna impuro quem o come. Essa comida será para eles mesmos; não entrará no templo do Senhor.5 O que farão vocês no dia de suas festas fixas, nos dias de festa do Senhor?6 Vejam! Fogem da destruição, mas o Egito os ajuntará, e Mênfis os sepultará. Os seus tesouros de prata as urtigas vão herdar; os cardos cobrirão totalmente as suas tendas.7 Os dias de castigo vêm, os dias de punição estão chegando. Que Israel o saiba. Por serem tantos os pecados, e tanta a hostilidade de vocês, o profeta é considerado um tolo, o homem inspirado, um louco violento.8 O profeta, junto ao meu Deus, é a sentinela que vigia Efraim, contudo, laços o aguardam em todas as suas veredas, e a hostilidade no templo do seu Deus.9 Eles mergulharam na corrupção, como nos dias de Gibeá. Deus se lembrará de sua iniqüidade e os castigará por seus pecados.10 "Quando encontrei Israel, foi como encontrar uvas no deserto; quando vi os antepassados de vocês, foi como ver os primeiros frutos de uma figueira. Mas, quando eles vieram a Baal-Peor, consagraram-se àquele ídolo vergonhoso e se tornaram tão repugnantes quanto aquilo que amaram.11 A glória de Efraim lhe fugirá como pássaro: nenhum nascimento, nenhuma gravidez, nenhuma concepção.12 Mesmo que criem filhos, porei de luto cada um deles. Ai deles quando eu me afastar!13 Vi Efraim, plantado num lugar agradável, como Tiro. Mas Efraim entregará seus filhos ao matador. "14 Ó Senhor, que darás a eles? Dá-lhes ventres que abortem e seios ressecados.15 "Toda a sua impiedade começou em Gilgal; de fato, ali eu os odiei. Por causa dos seus pecados, eu os expulsarei da minha terra. Não os amarei mais; todos os seus líderes são rebeldes.16 Efraim está ferido, sua raiz está seca, eles não produzem frutos. Mesmo que criem filhos, eu matarei sua querida prole. "17 Meu Deus os rejeitará porque não lhe deram ouvidos; serão peregrinos entre as nações.

There will not be enough wine to go around.3 »The people of Ephraim will not stay in Jehovah’s land. They will return to Egypt and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.4 »They will not pour wine offerings to Jehovah. Their food will only satisfy their hunger. All who eat it will be defiled. It will not be brought as an offering to Jehovah’s Temple.5 »What will they do on the day of an appointed festival or on Jehovah’s festival days?6 »Even if they escape without being destroyed, Egypt will capture them and Memphis will bury them. Weeds will grow over their silver treasures. Thorns will grow over their tents.7 The time for them to be punished will come. The time for them to pay for their sins will come. When this happens, Israel will know it. They think that prophets are fools and that spiritual people are crazy. They have sinned a lot, and are filled with hostility.«8 Prophets are God’s watchmen over Ephraim. Yet, traps are set on every prophet’s path and people are hostile in the Temple of their God.9 They have gone deep in depravity as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity. He will punish their sins.10 »I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your forefathers as the earliest fruit on the fig tree in its first season. They came to Baal-peor and devoted themselves to shame. They became as detestable as that which they loved.11 »As for Ephraim, their glory will fly away like a bird: No birth, no pregnancy and no conception!12 »Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them until no man is left. Yes, woe to them even when I depart from them!13 »I have seen Ephraim planted in a pleasant meadow like Tyre. But Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter.«14 Give them, O Jehovah what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.15 »All Ephraim's wickedness began in Gilgal. I hated the people there. I will force them out of my Temple because of their wickedness. I will not love them anymore. All their officials are rebellious.16 »The people of Ephraim are like sick plants. Their roots are dried up. They have no fruit. Even if they were to have children, I would kill their dear children.«17 My God will reject them because they refused to listen to him. They will wander among the nations.
