1 Davi reuniu novamente todos os melhores guerreiros de Israel, trinta mil ao todo. 2 Partiu com eles para Baalá de Judá a fim de buscar a arca de Deus, junto à qual era invocado o nome do Senhor dos Exércitos, que está entronizado entre os querubins. 3 Puseram a arca de Deus num carro novo e a levaram da casa de Abinadabe, que ficava num monte. Saindo da casa, Uzá e Aiô, filhos de Abinadabe, a carroça nova 4 que transportava a arca de Deus. Aiô estava à frente da arca. 5 Davi e todo o povo de Israel celebravam diante do Senhor, entoando cânticos e tocando todo tipo de instrumentos musicais: liras, harpas, tamborins, chocalhos e címbalos.

6 Quando chegaram à eira de Nacom, os bois tropeçaram, e Uzá estendeu a mão e segurou a arca. 7 A ira do Senhor se acendeu contra Uzá, e Deus o feriu por causa disso. E ele morreu ali mesmo, ao lado da arca de Deus.

8 Davi ficou indignado porque a ira do Senhor irrompeu contra Uzá e chamou aquele lugar de Perez-Uzá, como é conhecido até hoje.

9 Davi teve medo do Senhor e perguntou: "Como poderei levar a arca do Senhor?". 10 Então resolveu não transferir mais a arca do Senhor para a Cidade de Davi. Em vez disso, levou-a para a casa de Obede-Edom, na cidade de Gate. 11 A arca do Senhor ficou na casa de Obede-Edom, em Gate, por três meses, e o Senhor abençoou Obede-Edom e toda a sua família.

12 Disseram ao rei Davi: "O Senhor tem abençoado a família de Obede-Edom e tudo que ele possui por causa da arca de Deus". Então Davi foi até lá e, com grande festa, levou a arca de Deus da casa de Obede-Edom para a Cidade de Davi. 13 Quando os homens que carregavam a arca do Senhor davam seis passos, Davi sacrificava um boi e um novilho gordo. 14 Davi usava um colete sacerdotal de linho e dançava diante do Senhor com todas as suas forças. 15 Assim, Davi e todo o povo de Israel levaram a arca do Senhor com gritos de alegria e ao som de trombetas.

16 Enquanto a arca do Senhor entrava na Cidade de Davi, Mical, filha de Saul, olhava pela janela. Quando viu o rei Davi saltando e dançando diante do Senhor, encheu-se de desprezo por ele.

17 Trouxeram a arca do Senhor e a colocaram em seu lugar, dentro de uma tenda especial que Davi tinha preparado para ela. E Davi ofereceu ao Senhor holocaustos e ofertas de paz. 18 Depois que terminou de oferecer os sacrifícios, abençoou o povo em nome do Senhor dos Exércitos. 19 Para cada homem e mulher israelita na multidão, ele deu um pão, um bolo de tâmaras e um bolo de passas. Então todos voltaram para casa.

20 Quando Davi voltou para casa a fim de abençoar sua família, Mical, filha de Saul, saiu ao encontro dele e disse: "Como o rei de Israel se mostrou digno de honra hoje, exibindo-se sem qualquer vergonha diante das servas, como um homem vulgar!".

21 Davi respondeu a Mical: "Eu dançava diante do Senhor, que me escolheu em lugar de seu pai e de toda a sua família! Ele me nomeou líder de Israel, o povo do Senhor, por isso continuarei a celebrar diante do Senhor. 22 Estou disposto a me tornar ainda mais desprezível e até mesmo a ser humilhado aos meus próprios olhos! Mas as servas que você mencionou certamente me considerarão digno de honra". 23 E Mical, filha de Saul, não teve filhos até o final de sua vida.

1 David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2 David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah, to bring up from there God’s ark, which is called by the Name, even the name of Yahweh of Armies who sits above the cherubim. 3 They set God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house that was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. 4 They brought it out of Abinadab’s house which was in the hill, with God’s ark; and Ahio went before the ark. 5 David and all the house of Israel played before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with castanets, and with cymbals.

6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached for God’s ark and took hold of it, for the cattle stumbled. 7 Yahweh’s anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by God’s ark. 8 David was displeased because Yahweh had broken out against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez Uzzah to this day. 9 David was afraid of Yahweh that day; and he said, "How could Yahweh’s ark come to me?" 10 So David would not move Yahweh’s ark to be with him in David’s city; but David carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house. 11 Yahweh’s ark remained in Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and all his house. 12 King David was told, "Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that belongs to him, because of God’s ark."

So David went and brought up God’s ark from the house of Obed-Edom into David’s city with joy. 13 When those who bore Yahweh’s ark had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf. 14 David danced before Yahweh with all his might; and David was clothed in a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up Yahweh’s ark with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.

16 As Yahweh’s ark came into David’s city, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out through the window and saw king David leaping and dancing before Yahweh; and she despised him in her heart. 17 They brought in Yahweh’s ark, and set it in its place in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh. 18 When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Armies. 19 He gave to all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to everyone a portion of bread, dates, and raisins. So all the people departed, each to his own house.

20 Then David returned to bless his household. Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, "How glorious the king of Israel was today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants’ maids, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!"

21 David said to Michal, "It was before Yahweh, who chose me above your father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of Yahweh, over Israel. Therefore I will celebrate before Yahweh. 22 I will be yet more undignified than this, and will be worthless in my own sight. But the maids of whom you have spoken will honor me."

23 Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.
