1 Depois disso, Davi derrotou e sujeitou os filisteus, conquistando Gate, sua maior cidade. 2 Também conquistou a terra de Moabe. Fez os moabitas se deitarem no chão numa fileira e os mediu com uma corda, formando grupos. Para cada grupo que poupou, executou dois grupos. Assim Davi sujeitou os moabitas, e eles lhe pagaram tributo.

3 Davi também derrotou Hadadezer, filho de Reobe, rei de Zobá, quando Hadadezer tentou recuperar o controle da região do rio Eufrates. 4 Davi tomou mil carros de guerra, sete mil cavaleiros e vinte mil soldados da infantaria. Levou cavalos suficientes para cem carros de guerra e aleijou o restante.

5 Quando os sírios de Damasco chegaram para ajudar o rei Hadadezer, Davi matou 22 mil deles. 6 Então colocou destacamentos de seu exército em Damasco, a capital dos sírios. Assim Davi sujeitou os sírios, e eles lhe pagaram tributo. O Senhor concedia vitórias a Davi por onde quer que ele fosse.

7 Davi levou para Jerusalém os escudos de ouro dos oficiais de Hadadezer, 8 além de grande quantidade de bronze de Tebá e de Berotai, cidades que pertenciam a Hadadezer.

9 Quando Toí, rei de Hamate, soube que Davi tinha destruído todo o exército de Hadadezer, 10 enviou seu filho Jorão para parabenizar Davi por sua campanha bem-sucedida. Hadadezer e Toí eram inimigos e sempre estavam em guerra. Jorão presenteou Davi com objetos de prata, ouro e bronze.

11 O rei Davi dedicou todos esses presentes ao Senhor, como fez com a prata e o ouro das outras nações que havia derrotado: 12 de Edom, Moabe, Amom, da Filístia e de Amaleque, além de Hadadezer, filho de Reobe, rei de Zobá.

13 Davi se tornou ainda mais conhecido ao voltar da batalha em que matou dezoito mil edomitas no vale do Sal. 14 Davi colocou destacamentos de seu exército em todo o território de Edom, e assim sujeitou todos os edomitas. O Senhor concedia vitórias a Davi por onde quer que ele fosse.

15 Davi reinou sobre todo o Israel e fazia o que era justo e correto para seu povo. 16 Joabe, filho de Zeruia, era comandante de seu exército. Josafá, filho de Ailude, era o historiador do reino. 17 Zadoque, filho de Aitube, e Aimeleque, filho de Abiatar, eram os sacerdotes. Seraías era o secretário da corte. 18 Benaia, filho de Joiada, era comandante da guarda pessoal do rei. E os filhos de Davi serviam como líderes sacerdotais.

1 After this, David struck the Philistines and subdued them; and David took the bridle of the mother city out of the hand of the Philistines. 2 He defeated Moab, and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. The Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute.

3 David also struck Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his dominion at the River. 4 David took from him one thousand seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand footmen. David hamstrung the chariot horses, but reserved enough of them for one hundred chariots. 5 When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck twenty two thousand men of the Syrians. 6 Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went. 7 David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. 8 From Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took a great quantity of bronze.

9 When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer, 10 then Toi sent Joram his son to king David to greet him and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him; for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. Joram brought with him vessels of silver, vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze. 11 King David also dedicated these to Yahweh, with the silver and gold that he dedicated of all the nations which he subdued— 12 of Syria, of Moab, of the children of Ammon, of the Philistines, of Amalek, and of the plunder of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13 David earned a reputation when he returned from striking down eighteen thousand men of the Syrians in the Valley of Salt. 14 He put garrisons in Edom. Throughout all Edom, he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.

15 David reigned over all Israel; and David executed justice and righteousness for all his people. 16 Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army, Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder, 17 Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests, Seraiah was scribe, 18 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief ministers.
