1 O Senhor disse a Moisés: "Dê as seguintes instruções aos sacerdotes, os filhos de Arão.

"Nenhum sacerdote deverá se tornar cerimonialmente impuro por causa da morte de alguém do povo. 2 As únicas exceções são seus parentes mais próximos: mãe ou pai, filho ou filha, irmão 3 ou irmã virgem que dependa dele, uma vez que não tem marido. Nesse caso, poderá contaminar-se. 4 O sacerdote não deverá contaminar-se e tornar-se cerimonialmente impuro por causa de algum parente de sua esposa.

5 "Os sacerdotes não rasparão a cabeça, não rasparão a barba rente à pele, nem farão cortes no corpo. 6 Serão consagrados ao seu Deus e jamais desonrarão o nome de Deus, pois são eles que apresentam as ofertas especiais para o Senhor, ofertas de alimento para o seu Deus.

7 "Os sacerdotes não se casarão com uma mulher contaminada pela prostituição, nem se casarão com uma mulher divorciada do marido, pois o sacerdote é consagrado ao seu Deus. 8 Tratem-no como santo, pois ele traz as ofertas de alimento perante o seu Deus. Considerem-no santo, pois eu, o Senhor, sou santo e santifico vocês.

9 "Se a filha de um sacerdote se tornar prostituta e, desse modo, se contaminar, também contamina a santidade de seu pai e deverá morrer queimada.

10 "O sumo sacerdote ocupa a posição mais elevada entre todos os sacerdotes. O óleo da unção foi derramado sobre sua cabeça, e ele foi consagrado para vestir as roupas sacerdotais. Nunca deixará o cabelo despenteado nem rasgará suas roupas em sinal de luto. 11 Não se contaminará por aproximar-se de um cadáver. Não se tornará cerimonialmente impuro nem mesmo por causa de seu pai ou de sua mãe. 12 Não deixará o santuário, nem contaminará o santuário do seu Deus, pois foi consagrado pelo óleo da unção de seu Deus. Eu sou o Senhor.

13 "O sumo sacerdote somente se casará com uma virgem. 14 Não se casará com uma viúva, nem com uma mulher divorciada, nem com uma mulher contaminada pela prostituição. Sua esposa deverá ser uma virgem de seu próprio clã, 15 para que ele não desonre seus descendentes entre o povo, pois eu sou o Senhor, que o santifico".

16 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés: 17 "Dê as seguintes instruções a Arão. Nas gerações futuras, nenhum de seus descendentes portador de algum defeito físico estará qualificado para trazer ofertas de alimento ao seu Deus. 18 Nenhum homem que tenha algum defeito estará qualificado, seja ele cego, aleijado, mutilado ou deformado, 19 ou tenha o pé ou braço quebrado, 20 ou seja corcunda, ou anão, ou tenha um olho defeituoso, ou feridas na pele ou sarna, ou testículos defeituosos. 21 Nenhum descendente de Arão que tenha algum defeito se aproximará do altar para apresentar ofertas especiais para o Senhor. Uma vez que tem defeito, não poderá se aproximar do altar para trazer ofertas de alimento ao seu Deus. 22 No entanto, poderá comer do alimento oferecido a Deus, das ofertas santas e das ofertas santíssimas. 23 Mas, por causa de seu defeito físico, não passará adiante da cortina interna nem se aproximará do altar, pois contaminaria meus lugares santos. Eu sou o Senhor, que santifico esses lugares".

24 Moisés deu essas instruções a Arão, a seus filhos e a todos os israelitas.

1 Yahweh said to Moses, "Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them, ‘A priest shall not defile himself for the dead among his people, 2 except for his relatives that are near to him: for his mother, for his father, for his son, for his daughter, for his brother, 3 and for his virgin sister who is near to him, who has had no husband; for her he may defile himself. 4 He shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.

5 "‘They shall not shave their heads or shave off the corners of their beards or make any cuttings in their flesh. 6 They shall be holy to their God, and not profane the name of their God, for they offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, the bread of their God. Therefore they shall be holy.

7 "‘They shall not marry a woman who is a prostitute, or profane. A priest shall not marry a woman divorced from her husband; for he is holy to his God. 8 Therefore you shall sanctify him, for he offers the bread of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I Yahweh, who sanctify you, am holy.

9 "‘The daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the prostitute, she profanes her father. She shall be burned with fire.

10 "‘He who is the high priest among his brothers, upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and who is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose, or tear his clothes. 11 He must not go in to any dead body, or defile himself for his father or for his mother. 12 He shall not go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him. I am Yahweh.

13 "‘He shall take a wife in her virginity. 14 He shall not marry a widow, or one divorced, or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute. He shall take a virgin of his own people as a wife. 15 He shall not profane his offspring among his people, for I am Yahweh who sanctifies him.’"

16 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 17 "Say to Aaron, ‘None of your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect may approach to offer the bread of his God. 18 For whatever man he is that has a defect, he shall not draw near: a blind man, or a lame, or he who has a flat nose, or any deformity, 19 or a man who has an injured foot, or an injured hand, 20 or hunchbacked, or a dwarf, or one who has a defect in his eye, or an itching disease, or scabs, or who has damaged testicles. 21 No man of the offspring of Aaron the priest who has a defect shall come near to offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire. Since he has a defect, he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God. 22 He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy. 23 He shall not come near to the veil, nor come near to the altar, because he has a defect; that he may not profane my sanctuaries, for I am Yahweh who sanctifies them.’"

24 So Moses spoke to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel.
