1 Então Jacó mandou chamar todos os seus filhos e lhes disse: "Reúnam-se ao meu redor, e eu direi o que acontecerá a cada um de vocês nos dias que virão.
2 "Venham e ouçam, filhos de Jacó,
ouçam Israel, seu pai!
3 "Rúben, você é meu filho mais velho, minha força,
o filho da minha juventude vigorosa;
é o primeiro em importância e o primeiro em poder.
4 É, contudo, impetuoso como uma enchente,
e não será mais o primeiro.
Pois deitou-se em minha cama,
desonrou meu leito conjugal.
5 "Simeão e Levi são iguais em tudo;
suas armas são instrumentos de violência.
6 Que eu jamais esteja presente em suas reuniões
e nunca participe de seus planos.
Pois, em sua ira, mataram homens
e, por diversão, aleijaram bois.
7 Maldita seja sua ira, pois é feroz;
maldita sua fúria, pois é cruel.
Eu os espalharei entre os descendentes de Jacó,
eu os dispersarei por todo o Israel.
8 "Judá, seus irmãos o louvarão;
você agarrará seus inimigos pelo pescoço,
e todos os seus parentes se curvarão à sua frente.
9 Judá, meu filho, é um leão novo
que acabou de comer sua presa.
Como o leão, ele se agacha, e como a leoa, se deita;
quem tem coragem de acordá-lo?
10 O cetro não se afastará de Judá,
nem o bastão de autoridade de seus descendentes,
até que venha aquele a quem pertence,
aquele que todas as nações honrarão.
11 Ele amarra seu potro a uma videira,
seu jumentinho a uma videira seleta.
Lava suas roupas em vinho,
suas vestes, no sangue das uvas.
12 Seus olhos são mais escuros que o vinho,
seus dentes, mais brancos que o leite.
13 "Zebulom se estabelecerá à beira-mar
e será um porto para os navios;
suas fronteiras se estenderão até Sidom.
14 "Issacar é um jumento forte,
que descansa entre dois sacos de carga.
15 Quando vir como o campo é bom
e como a terra é agradável,
curvará seus ombros para a carga
e se sujeitará a trabalhos forçados.
16 "Dã governará seu povo,
como qualquer outra tribo de Israel.
17 Dã será uma serpente à beira da estrada,
uma víbora junto ao caminho
que morde o calcanhar do cavalo
e faz o cavaleiro cair.
18 Ó Senhor, espero pelo teu livramento!
19 "Gade será atacado por bandos de saqueadores,
mas os atacará quando baterem em retirada.
20 "Aser se alimentará de comidas deliciosas
e produzirá iguarias dignas de reis.
21 "Naftali é uma gazela solta
que dá à luz lindos filhotes.
22 "José é árvore frutífera,
árvore frutífera junto à fonte;
seus ramos se estendem por cima do muro.
23 Arqueiros o atacaram brutalmente;
atiraram nele e o atormentaram.
24 Seu arco, porém, permaneceu esticado,
e seus braços foram fortalecidos
pelas mãos do Poderoso de Jacó,
pelo Pastor, a Rocha de Israel.
25 Que o Deus de seu pai o ajude;
o Todo-poderoso o abençoe
com bênçãos dos altos céus,
bênçãos das profundezas das águas,
bênçãos dos seios e do ventre.
26 Que as bênçãos de seu pai ultrapassem
as bênçãos de meus antepassados
e alcancem as alturas das antigas colinas.
Que essas bênçãos descansem sobre a cabeça de José,
que é príncipe entre seus irmãos.
27 "Benjamim é um lobo voraz;
pela manhã devora seus inimigos,
ao entardecer divide o despojo".
28 Essas são as doze tribos de Israel, e foi isso que seu pai disse ao despedir-se de seus filhos. Deu a cada um deles a bênção que lhe era adequada.
29 Em seguida, Jacó lhes deu a seguinte instrução: "Em breve morrerei e me reunirei a meus antepassados. Sepultem-me com meu pai e com meu avô na caverna no campo de Efrom, o hitita. 30 É a caverna de Macpela, perto de Manre, em Canaã, que Abraão comprou do hitita como sepultura permanente. 31 Ali estão sepultados Abraão e sua mulher, Sara. Ali também estão sepultados Isaque e sua mulher, Rebeca. E ali sepultei Lia. 32 É o campo e a caverna que meu avô, Abraão, comprou dos hititas".
33 Quando Jacó terminou de dar essa instrução a seus filhos, deitou-se em sua cama, deu o último suspiro e, ao morrer, reuniu-se a seus antepassados.

1 Jacob called to his sons, and said: "Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which will happen to you in the days to come.
2 Assemble yourselves, and hear, you sons of Jacob.
Listen to Israel, your father.
3 "Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength,
excelling in dignity, and excelling in power.
4 Boiling over like water, you shall not excel,
because you went up to your father’s bed,
then defiled it. He went up to my couch.
5 "Simeon and Levi are brothers.
Their swords are weapons of violence.
6 My soul, don’t come into their council.
My glory, don’t be united to their assembly;
for in their anger they killed men.
In their self-will they hamstrung cattle.
7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce;
and their wrath, for it was cruel.
I will divide them in Jacob,
and scatter them in Israel.
8 "Judah, your brothers will praise you.
Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies.
Your father’s sons will bow down before you.
9 Judah is a lion’s cub.
From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He stooped down, he crouched as a lion,
as a lioness.
Who will rouse him up?
10 The scepter will not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,
until he comes to whom it belongs.
The obedience of the peoples will be to him.
11 Binding his foal to the vine,
his donkey’s colt to the choice vine,
he has washed his garments in wine,
his robes in the blood of grapes.
12 His eyes will be red with wine,
his teeth white with milk.
13 "Zebulun will dwell at the haven of the sea.
He will be for a haven of ships.
His border will be on Sidon.
14 "Issachar is a strong donkey,
lying down between the saddlebags.
15 He saw a resting place, that it was good,
the land, that it was pleasant.
He bows his shoulder to the burden,
and becomes a servant doing forced labor.
16 "Dan will judge his people,
as one of the tribes of Israel.
17 Dan will be a serpent on the trail,
an adder in the path,
that bites the horse’s heels,
so that his rider falls backward.
18 I have waited for your salvation, Yahweh.
19 "A troop will press on Gad,
but he will press on their heel.
20 "Asher’s food will be rich.
He will produce royal dainties.
21 "Naphtali is a doe set free,
who bears beautiful fawns.
22 "Joseph is a fruitful vine,
a fruitful vine by a spring.
His branches run over the wall.
23 The archers have severely grieved him,
shot at him, and persecuted him:
24 But his bow remained strong.
The arms of his hands were made strong,
by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob,

27 "Benjamin is a ravenous wolf.
In the morning he will devour the prey.
At evening he will divide the plunder."
28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them, and blessed them. He blessed everyone according to his own blessing. 29 He instructed them, and said to them, "I am to be gathered to my people. There they buried Isaac and Rebekah, his wife, and there I buried Leah: 32 the field and the cave that is therein, which was purchased from the children of Heth." 33 When Jacob finished charging his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, breathed his last breath, and was gathered to his people.
