1 Por isso devemos prestar muita atenção à verdade que já temos ouvido. Se não, corremos o risco de nos desviarmos dela.

2 Porque se a palavra da lei vinda por intermédio de anjos se mostrou tão válida que todos os que lhe desobedeceram foram castigados,

3 como escaparemos nós se ficarmos indiferentes a essa tão grande salvação, que nos foi anunciada pelo próprio Senhor, e depois transmitida por os que o ouviram? r

4 Além disso, Deus mesmo tem apoiado esses testemunhos através de sinais, de milagres e de várias manifestações do seu poder, e por dons da parte do Espírito Santo, concedidos segundo a sua vontade.

5 Além disso o mundo futuro, de que falamos nas nossas pregações, não é pelos anjos que há-de ser dirigido. Porque há uma passagem das Escrituras em que se diz:Que é o homem, para que te preocupes com ele? E quem é o filho do homem, para que te lembres dele? E apesar disso o tornaste um pouco mais baixo que os anjos,e coroaste-o de honra e glória, puseste tudo sob os seus pés.

8 Ora não vemos, de facto, que essas coisas estejam realizadas, e que tudo esteja submetido ao ser humano.

9 Mas vemos, sim, Jesus - o qual por um pouco de tempo esteve mesmo inferior aos anjos - dignificado agora com toda a glória e honra, por causa de ter sofrido a morte por nós; morte essa, aliás, que pela bondade de Deus, ele experimentou a favor de toda a humanidade

10 Porque Deus tinha planeado permitir que Jesus sofresse e por esse meio levasse muitos filhos para Deus, a quem pertence tudo, pois que tudo ele criou. Esse sofrimento tornou Jesus o perfeito salvador deles.

11 Nós que fomos purificados por Jesus temos agora o mesmo Pai que ele. E é por isso que ele não se envergonha em nos chamar seus irmãos, dizendo:Louvarei o teu nome perante os meus irmãos alarei de ti perante a assembleia do povo.

13 E noutra ocasião disse também: Porei a minha confiança em Deus. E Aqui estou eu, com os filhos que Deus me deu.

14 E visto que nós, seus filhos, somos seres humanos feitos de carne e de sangue, ele também se tornou carne e sangue; pois que só como ser humano ele poderia passar pela morte e assim esmagar a força daquele que tinha o poder da morte, que é o Diabo,

15 libertando todos aqueles que tinham a sua vida inteiramente subjugada pelo medo da morte.

16 Todos sabemos que não é aos anjos que ele ajuda, mas aos da descendência de Abraão.

17 Por isso, era necessário que Jesus fosse em tudo semelhante aos seus irmãos, e que por consequência pudesse ser nosso fiel supremo sacerdote, cheio de compaixão. E assim ele pôde oferecer um sacrifício que tira os pecados do povo

18 Tendo pois ele mesmo sido sujeito à tentação, e passado pelo sofrimento, pode assim socorrer aqueles que passam pela prova da tentação!

1 For this cause, it behoveth us, with unwonted firmness, to be holding fast unto the things that have been heard, lest, at any time, we drift away.

2 For, if the word through messengers spoken became firm, and, every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense,

3 how shall, we, escape, if, so great a salvation as this, we have neglected,which, indeed, having received, a beginning, of being spoken through the Lord, by them who heard, unto us was confirmed,

4 God, jointly witnessing also, both with signs and wonders and manifold mighty works, and with distributions of Holy Spirit, according to his own will?

5 For, not unto messengers, hath he subjected the coming habitable earth of which we are speaking;

6 But one somewhere hath borne witness, sayingWhat is man, that thou shouldst make mention of him? Or the son of man, that thou shouldst put him in charge?

7 Thou hast made him less, some little, than messengers, With glory and honour, hast thou crowned him, And hast set him over the works of thy hands ;

8 All things, hast thou subjected beneath his feet. For, in subjecting, to him the all things, nothing, left he, to him unsubjected; But now, not yet, do we see, to him, the all things subjected;

9 But, Jesus, made some little less than messengers, we do behold: by reason of the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour, to the end that, by favour of God, in behalf of every one, he might taste of death.

10 For it was becoming in himFor the sake of whom are the all things, and by means of whom are the all things,when, many sons, unto glory, he would lead, The Princely Leader of their salvation, through sufferings, to make perfect.

11 For, both he that maketh holy, and they who are being made holy, are, all, of One; For which cause, he is not ashamed to be calling them, brethren,

12 sayingI will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of an assembly, will I sing praise unto thee;

13 and againI, will be confident upon him; and againLo! I, and the children which, unto me, God, hath given.

14 Seeing therefore the children have received a fellowship of blood and flesh, he also, in like manner, took partnership in the same,in order that, through death,he might paralyse him that held the dominion of death, that is, the Adversary,

15 And might release theseas many as, by fear of death, were all their lifetime liable, to bondage.

16 For, not surely of messengers, is he laying hold, but, of Abrahams seed, he is laying hold.

17 Whence he was obliged, in every way, unto the brethren, to be made like, that he might become a merciful and faithful high-priest, in the things pertaining unto God,for the making of propitiation for the sins of the people.

18 For, in that, he, suffered when tested, he is able, unto them who are being tested, to give succour.
